I'm really looking forward to this gathering.
I attended college at Ithaca College 88-92, and I think my first drumming experience (or very close to it) was in one of the gorges there.
I was wacked out on drugs at the time, but something about the drumming grabbed me then, with several of us spaced out (literally and physically) over the stone shelves of the gorge, water flowing by, the sound bouncing off of the ancient rock walls, morning light just starting to appear. I had no idea how to play, and I don't think my friends did either, but we summoned the magic all the same. My ear is jaded now but my spirit is eager for the feeling, the symbiotic loss of self in the collective groove.
If you've ever seen the gorges there, you know how I could find magic there. I'm looking forward to returning. ROOTS.

Interesting...
I graduated in '91, and two of the other performers scheduled for the festival also graduated from IC. :-) -

Re: Ithaca, my Ithaca
Sun, December 30, 2007 - 1:41 AMYeah, I have fond memories of Michael Markus teaching big groups to drum in the quad. Is Jaws the name of the band I remember? Some farked up jazz, and I loved it!
Hey, wait. Do I know you? hmmmm ... And who's the third IC grad scheduled?
Oh, and if you remember a big bomb scare, I want to say my friends and I never intended any harm, and it was really just a joke gone horribly, horribly wrong.

Sun, December 30, 2007 - 8:27 AMFond memories of Michael leading drum circles in the quad is one of the reasons I have him scheduled for TMG... he is an extremely accomplished percussionist, and has a wonderful energy about him.
You might know me... Chuck Wilson.
The other IC Grad is Lane Stowe, check out his website, myspace, and CDBaby links below:

Re: Ithaca, my Ithaca
Fri, January 25, 2008 - 6:44 PMThey closed down half the campus and brought in the Seneca Army Depot bomb squad, robot and all, just because or our stupidity. We never said there was a bomb, honest. Just a bad joke.
Like dime beer night, it's best (and easily) forgotten.

Sat, January 26, 2008 - 6:45 AMWhat year did that happen?!?
I was there fall '87 - Spring '91, and I don't remember that.
Actually, sometimes I'm amazed I remember anything. O.o

Sat, January 26, 2008 - 6:47 AMDime beer night at the Dugout?!?!
You're gonna laugh... Parent's Weekend my freshman year, I actually brought my father to dimies. He had Vodka (allergic to malt) and said he'd been to worse places. ROFL!
