Re: "Shimmy" series on Fit TV
Mon, October 29, 2007 - 9:48 AMI watched part of it once. It seemed more like a music video than an exercise program to me. The scenes kept changing which was very distracting and the camera often stayed focused on the dancer's face instead of the showing the movement. So it wasn't really what I was looking for in an excerise program. But I really did like the All Stars Workout that Aubre did for FIT TV. That was good.

Re: "Shimmy" series on Fit TV
Sat, November 3, 2007 - 12:58 PMIt looked like it was produced by the same crew that does Namaste Yoga. The moves were okay, more cabaret than tribal. I didn't like the floppy arms of the instructors. The narrator's voice was terrible, so I had to mute it.
my ruling: try it out, but it's no substitute for a real class with an instructor. -

Re: "Shimmy" series on Fit TV
Wed, November 7, 2007 - 2:13 PMMy housemate had to leave the room. I sat and watched in almost horror....sort of. One of them is definitely a bellydancer, one maybe..the other...no?
But WHY do they choose a rooftop, a parking garage, and a basement as sets??? It's like "Shimmy on a Snuff Movie Set"

Re: "Shimmy" series on Fit TV
Fri, November 9, 2007 - 8:29 PMI watched it at my parents' house with my mom this past Sunday and I watched it at home the week before that. I like the scenery and the sets, but it's boring to see the same costumes every week. As for the dance routines, I'm already bored with this series. -

Re: "Shimmy" series on Fit TV
Fri, November 9, 2007 - 11:31 PMHonest and interesting feedback from established dancers . . . personally, I find it very difficult to watch "beginner" videos instruction because after 14 years I have some pretty strong opinions about how things should be taught, so even seeing big name instructors teach can make me cringe, because it's not what I like / am used to. Even the difference between what i consider "basic moves" and what other instructors do can make me a bit mental, but again, that's personal taste.
SO, respecting that you're bored Pamela, costuming aside, are you bored because the information is too basic for you (you're at a level where you need something more challenging) or because of the way it's taught (off screen narration, explaination of moves, editing, the abilities of the dancers)? Because the mandate of the series is to teach basic bellydance to absolute beginners --- so personal prefferences aside *would* this series work for a beginner?
I admit that i have absolutely no perspective here: the series was shot in my hometown, i even auditioned to be one of the performers (sadly, I was too round); the writer/narrator is my teacher/best friend/mentor, and most of the dancers are people i know from our community. That being said, don't worry, I'm not here to defend the show or challenge anyone's input here --- I just know that the producers are looking for as much feedback as possible, so if you or anyone has the time, please do go to the link above, and let them know what you think, and why.
With respect, <Azrakesh> -

Re: "Shimmy" series on Fit TV
Sat, November 10, 2007 - 8:01 AMI forgot to say that I've become interested in tribal and tribal fusion. These days I'm just automatically bored with any bellydance that isn't one of those types. -

Re: "Shimmy" series on Fit TV
Mon, November 12, 2007 - 9:36 AMI was hoping it was something I could use during the week while alone. As a teacher, performer, full time job holder and single parent - it is hard to get the time to just dance and practice. Unfortunately - this series is not for me. The constant background changes are just too annoying (WHAT'S UP WITH THE TUNNEL DURING THE PERFORMANCE SEGMENTS). The announcer is to monotone.
I do applaud their efforts in bringing this to cable tv, but it just doesn't work for me. -

Re: "Shimmy" series on Fit TV
Thu, January 3, 2008 - 1:32 PMThis is my thing: In a parking garage. The top of an escalator. Tunnel. Basement.
Is this a snuff film?

Re: "Shimmy" series on Fit TV
Tue, February 19, 2008 - 1:46 PMStill waiting to see this one as it's not on Comcast in Montgomery County, MD where I live.
My boyfriend is recording some episodes for me (he has Verizon with FitTV).
Locations sound "interesting". It also sounds like more a beginner course than I would find helpful but I'll make that judgment call after I see it.

Re: "Shimmy" series on Fit TV
Wed, March 19, 2008 - 4:25 PMDoes anyone know what company makes the clothing (not the BD costumes) that the ladies on the show are wearing? I looked on the websites for the show and didn't come up with anything. The pants look similar Melo's but they have a logo of some sort on the side - and the tops have the same logo (though I can't see what it is to search for it either..) Thanks!
