Am I completely out of line in believing that all members in a troupe should show up to class/practice at the beginning of the scheduled time? My troupe has one dancer who is constantly 20-30 minutes late to practice and who always has some excuse as to why she late. Furthermore, she convinced our troupe leader to allow her to perform with us even though she only comes to practice once a week (we have practice 3-4x a week). Am I being too selfish in feeling this is unfair to the other troupe members? Please let me know your thoughts.

Re: group dynamics
Fri, July 11, 2008 - 9:17 PMI don't think you're in the wrong at all. I am the newest member in a troupe of four other women, and we have to attend so many rehearsals before a performance - period - or we're not allowed to perform. If I were in your position, I would approach your teacher/head of the troupe and talk to her privately about it, let her know that it's bothering you and that you wanted to let her know since you want to keep a good group dynamic going. Talking to the troupe head rather than everyone else in the troupe is the more mature way to go about it, and maybe if the other members of the troupe feel the same, ask them to also go and talk privately with the troupe leader. Once she hears what everyone has to say about it, chances are she'll do something about it if everyone feels similarly to you!
Good luck!
