This is an open invite to all to come and join us for regular monthly American Tribal Style belly dance nights on Friday evenings in Bristol.
This is not a workshop and there is no teacher, just a regular get together of like-minded people to go over moves and just dance, drill and practise!
You will need to have some basic knowledge of ATS although beginners can be accommodated.

We would also love anyone who is interested in drumming (darbuka, rik, frame drums, djembe etc) to come along and get involved. Some knowledge of Middle Eastern rhythms preferred but not essential.
In fact, why limit it to just drummers? Bring along any acoustic instrument but particularly anything from the Middle East!

£5 per person to go in the kitty each time, to cover room hire.
We are not trying to make money out of this, so any profit will be pumped back into keeping the sessions going.

This event falls on the last Friday of every month, 7.30pm - 9pm.
June's event will be on the 26th.
Bristol

Last year we travelled to the Sinai and Cairo for 6 weeks and we found a great Camp called RockSea in the Sinai run by a lovely German couple. They have invited us to run these workshops in their Geodesic dome at the camp within easy walking distance of the accommodation. After the workshop week we will be travelling to Cairo for a week or so and we are happy to help anyone who wishes to explore the music and dance opportunities which are there in abundance – performance, tuition and instrument buying etc. and how to generally deal with getting around Cairo. There is hopefully all the information you may require at my website click http://arabicdrum.co.uk/teaching_workshops.htm#Drum,_Music_and_Dance_Holiday_In_The_Sinai,_Egypt_Nov._2009_ for who we are, what is offered, costs etc. etc. I also have some upcoming workshops in the UK some of you may be interested in and I have new drums in stock for sale too – all this and more can be checked out at www.arabicdrum.co.uk
Cheers
Vaudeville, Music Hall, Freak Shows, Concert Saloons, Minstrelsy, Dime Museums, and Burlesque; all major forms of entertainment in the late 1800s/ early 1900s. A time where costuming and stagecraft was paramount, and a certain warped fascination with the bizarre and freakish, spliced with titillation and risqué humor, was the order of the day. Here the spirit of this evocative era is fused with dark waltz melodies, glitch electronic sounds, salacious burlesque, and gypsy brass for one of the most unique and lovingly crafted compilations you’re likely to hear this or any other year.

This is an open invite to all to come and join us for regular monthly ATS nights on Friday evenings in Bristol.
This is not a workshop and there is no teacher, just a regular get together of like-minded people to go over moves and just dance.

We would also love anyone who is interested in drumming to come along and get involved. We already have a couple of drummers and it would be great to have more people playing along. Doesn't matter what level you're at, from beginner to experienced, just come along and play.
In fact, why limit it to just drums? Bring along any instrument but particularly anything from the Middle East!

If everyone puts £5 in the kitty each time, this will cover room hire.

When? The last Friday of every month, 7.30pm - 9pm, starting this month (29th May).

Locks and Pops are one of the defining moves of Tribal Fusion belly dance.

This workshop will focus on achieving sharp locks and pops through the understanding of our anatomy and isolation of core muscle groups. These moves will then be drilled repeatedly.

We will then learn a short choreography using all the drilled moves. This will show how locks and pops can be used in choreography to interpret the music and give dancers the feel of what it is like to perform as a tribal fusion dancer.

This workshop is suitable for both beginners and intermediate dancers who wish to learn and sharpen up moves and work towards performance. Bring a bottle of water and wear comfortable clothes.

Selling fast, book now only £15 from www.darkstardance.co.uk

I'm swathed in blue sheets and feeling quite nervous with my arm held up over my head and one of the nurses ask if I'll be ok keeping my arm up for the duration. I reply that I do tribal and spend hours with my arms up so I should be ok - at which point there is a little squeal and one of the nurses says "Tribal - I do tribal" - and it is vronni who teaches down that way and I've met at workshops a couple of times.

By the time we've chatted about Majma, Tribal Pura, Carolena, Wendy, Sam, Izzy, Jacqui, and workshops and wouldn't it be nice to go to America to dance, or even just Tribal London - and the possibility of workshops down in South Cornwall etc etc - the op is over and done with and I've hardly noticed.

I did feel a bit sorry for the surgeon and the other nurses having to listen to us chat nineteen to the dozen - and at one point I had to check myself from laughing - not a good idea when a surgeon is wealding a scalpel over your chest.

It was lovely though to be in such a horrible situation and immediately connect with someone through dance.

Thanks vronni. I owe you a big hug when we next meet at a workshop.
I am doing Victorias class in Bath which is Brill, and am doing a class at Tribal London, and also hopefuly making it to Sirocco, but dont think I can afford Tribal Ford. I have been lookng around for other workshops, but cant see much going on, so if anyone hears of any please let me know. I am def a beginner, but seem to be learning fast (probably due to all the time I am locked away in my room practicing! So complete beginners workshops would probably be too basic now

The performances were amazing - it was clear how hard everyone had worked and the show was brilliant from start to finish. I was just disappointed I couldn't buy a costume but my wallet said no! It really inspired me seeing some of the dances and the younger girls were brilliant - I think they were only about 10 and they looked stunning!!! It was a great night and all in aid of charity which is even better!

Last night we only had two in the class as husbands and partners did not allow the women out in case there were problems on the road. its so much easier to freeze and stop doing things out of fear, but the way i see it we are dancing for peace and if we didnt have this outlet we would loose our sanity. its so amazing at a time like this the effect of dance has on the mind, body and spirit.
may the people of zimbabwe, the animals and the land be in your prayers xxxxx

It's a 3cd set, 1 Traditional and Cabaret, 2 Drum Solo and Tribal, 3 Fusion. It's been compiled by the excellent Shisha Sound System with assistance from Dawn O'Brien and me, and is released on the Nascente label. Check out www.myspace.com/beginnersguidetobellydance. It's available from Amazon, plus numerous others - the sales links are on the myspace site. IMHO it's totally fab, a real heavyweight release! Hope you like it too : )
