Where will we sail?

We'll train with the Schooner here in the Maritimes(Eastern Canada and Maine) next summer. It is currently docked on Grand Manan Island, where James, the owner lives. He has used the ship to offer whale watching tours in past years. He'd be able to train us to sail the boat during the summer, and maybe we could even offer whale watching tours to generate funds.

The following fall and winter, we then sail to the Central Pacific coast of Mexico, where we have a project in the village of Roblito. To make more money, we could offer charter tours off Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta which have huge numbers of tourists, and in the Sea of Cortez, sailing calmer waters up and down the Baja between Roblito and San Felipe... which is not so far from San Deigo.

I've kayaked the whole 700 miles of the Sea of Cortez and it is AMAZING. The snorkling and spear fishing is killer! I know many great spots there... a few hot springs... hikes... we could spend years there alone.

That spring/summer we'd head north to LA, SF and Vancouver, then back down to Robilto for the next winter.

I'm open. We'll see what the rest of you have in mind.

Some responses to the posts on tribe:

Just out of curiosity, is the 12 person 'core group' a number based on 1) the physical limits of the boat/crew capacity 2) the dynamics necessary for a good functioning community and tour 3) the financial requirements to make it happen, or all of the above?

I'd love to pledge 3000 but I'd rather not commit until I've met people to talk in person- thats a huge factor for me- I guess I need to know more about the crew and the vision we are co-creating- what kind of tour it would be, what kind of agreements and community decision making structure, where it would go/when, what the level of committment of each person is, what kind of educational and other events or work it would do, who is bringing what skills/talents/gifts to the crew, so we know we have all the bases covered to run a functioning and inspiring joyful tour, etc, as well as can live together.
I guess I'm still thinking in the stage of visioning and brainstorming and creating, rather than the nuts and bolts of finances and agreements/commitments- though I realize its crucial to talk about now, I just need more of the big picture to chew on still...
    some questions:
what kind of slideshows and performances, shown where?
what would the educational or core focus of the venture be?
who would organize the events/stops? ie, do the logistical legwork?
would we do volunteer work in places where we land?
how long do you envision this running for? are you planning on creating a permanant mobile consensus based/ egalitarian ecovillage educational touring community like the Rainbow Peace Caravan in South America, or something more like Common Vision, which runs 1-2 main 'trips' or 'tours' or 'benefit series' per year that pull the whole crew together, then the rest of the year everyone puffs on the wind back to their homes/communities, while the core group of 5 (the administrative team) makes most the decisions and plans throughout the year while the buses wait for the next tour? Or some combination from all of the above?
It seems like you already have a tour schedule in mind, and thats great, but where is the room for co-creation in that? I feel like we need to gather a core group together, of people who maybe even arent fully committed yet but highly interested, to brainstorm together, see what kind of vision we create together, where our visions and values are in line, or out of sync, and how well we get along together... I'd be curious, too, to learn from the Common Vision folk what those initial years of creating their group was like...

Is anyone here in the Bay area that could meet up to talk more in person?

thanks! peace and love, looking forward,
    b

Great questions, I'll do my best to answer, but really for this to be a community project I gotta say "I don't know... it's up to the others as well."

      ALL 3 ARE TRUE.

SHOWS OF OUR ADVENTURES AND PROJECTS, OR JUST FUN ART... EVERYWHERE WE GO.

what would the educational or core focus of the venture be?

VALUE OF COMMUNITY, SIMPLE LIVING, TRAVEL, SHARING CULTURES

who would organize the events/stops? ie, do the logistical legwork?

DEPENDS ON WHO IS BEST AT IT

would we do volunteer work in places where we land?

      YES

how long do you envision this running for?

      ALL YEAR

WE'D LIVE ON BOARD... I'M SURE MANY PEOPLE WILL COME AND GO AS TIME AND MONEY ALLOWS.

Or some combination from all of the above?

I'M OPEN, HOWEVER ROBLITO IS A MAJOR PROJECT AND A PERFECT PLACE TO BE BASED OUT OF WITH THE BOAT.
