Just got back from RoboDock arts festival Amsterdamn. Crazy industrial anarchy on squatted pier just north of Amsterdamn. Tons of rocking collectives and private alternative ships with loads of lessons out there. One ship, fronted by a German collective, large ship called the Schtoopnitz(spelling?), others at port as well ask around from people connected with the schtoopnitz gang. The freedom ship of the gorrilla Green Peace'rs--the one that got bomb attemted not too long ago by an angry government was also at port there. Back in Barcelona, I heard tell of a giant ship that ported around Arabic countries alot(int the last five years)-- an art troupe run rig (they had huge shows at port, free for the people, dancers hanging off of giant scafolding, raining waves of cold sparks and doing some sort of "on the cross" art spectacular.
PS
the places most beautiful and exotic are overrun with pirates--nasty disease raping, automatic rifle strapped pirates.
Some Rainbow friends of mine tried to take off from India with a large schooner but Malaria got the best of them before they had a chance to die of scurvy. Just some things to consider.

Most of these ships are getting funded by european art councils supported by the government-- we just don't have that kind of setup here, but rock out with yoour badselves-- Americans are cunning, resourcefull little devils, ain't we!

  • G... thanks for the post!

Yes... I read about pirates in the papers... a lot more of it happening off Africa these days, and I'm sure other places.

I think sailing is going to make a huge come-back with the rag-tag sort... including our kind... who just don't want to pay rent or use planes.

I'm keen to know of more projects like this if ya'll know some. I'm sure there are many. I heard of a sailing theater sail from Montreal. It was in New Orleans when i was there, but I didn't see it myself. And David is organizing the Seascape project... which looks like a much bigger ship... which more bells and whistles.

    Others?
    • A friend sent this today:

      Hi Cory,
this is Kristy Jansen -- we have corresponded via e-mail and spoken on the phone a few times, but never met face to face. I live in Santa Barbara, and I have been following your adventures since your Solomax days, when I encountered your website through a friendly co-worker -- Crista Larrit -- and was taken with how you veiwed life as an adventure to be lived.

Your recent posting about buying a boat and living and traveling on it with friends stopped my breath since that idea was one my parents and their friends had back in the seventies, and one that has shaped my life ever since. I would like to send you a dvd about the circumnavigation we made in 1976-78 aboard our 75 foot wooden hull schooner. It is now thirty years (less one month) since the Vltava set out on this first extended voyage, and we have been living, working, and traveling together ever since. If you are interested, send me an address and I will send this film out to you. Let me know if you have any other questions, since I'd be thrilled to talk to you about our experiences. Living socially has many challenges, but the benefits are tremendous. I am so interested to see what happens if and when you put your ideas into action.

      Sincerely,
      Kristy
