I had no idea this tribe was here!! Hooray for trikes!!!!
This will be my first year and I'm thrilled to have found this awesome trike in Phoenix while there on spring break. And the fine gentleman who makes them made me this trailer for hauling stuff (Beer cooler, musical instruments, etc!)
So, I'm working on decorating and lighting it. I posted questions on the bike list (brain failed as to which one) but figured you all are the experts on all things trike.
The pic can be found here: people.tribe.net/lindak/ph...8f1b809bd6
There are two others as well.
Sewing, I can do. The flags, and a seat cover complete with it's won backpack for the camelback and extra gear are easy, what isn't easy is wiring, tires and the poles for the flags. Any suggestions and ideas will be welcome!!!
Green slime, is it good?
Here, in Albuquerque, where prickers and the like grow to epic proportions, all tires, even those on my fancy lightweight racing bike, are treated with tire sealant. They seem to prefer the green slime stuff. Does this work on the playa?
Decorations
I thought I'd use the bike whip poles that usually have the bright orange flags for the two flag poles. BTW the flags will be light weight, hemmed, stitched and glued onto the poles. Is this the best idea for the poles? The trailer has been fitted with a tube for an umbrella and the trike has an upright tube that I can strap the whip pole to. I couldn't find any information how they stand up to the playa on this tribe. Or if there is any other suggestions...
Lighting
Although I've been reading up on EL wire and wiring and all that, I just don't think I will be able to do that this year. Too many other projects and that thing called work! So I thought I'd get the elwire already set up with a battery pack, one for the trike and one for the trailer. I'm getting a bright bicycle headlight for the front but I'm not sure what to do for the back lights. Any suggestions?
Thanks all!!! Love all the pics!!

Re: My first trike: The Dream Streaker
Thu, June 26, 2008 - 9:02 AMHi Linda, I answered one of your posts in the Burning Bikes Tribe but I saw this post and decded to throw it all in here...here is a copy of my first reply:
Hi Linda, For me the standard orange safety bike flags have held up very well on the Playa and I think your attachment idea is very good. As for EL wire...I have bought several premade units from this company www.vibelights.com/index.html you can get just about any length with battery pack/power supply (very small unit) that uses AA batteries at reasonable prices. So far they have been a good company for me but there are many other companies selling this stuff. I also just ordered a couple of thier automotive cold cathode set ups for my trike...I am going for a ground effects kinda thing.
I have not had a lot of recent experience with the slime products...many years ago you avoided them because they were heavy and messy if you had a big blow out. I not sure if that has changed much. For the Playa I would think that weight would not be an issue considering your not racing but I think a high percentage of the blow outs on the Playa are probably tire pressure realated (to high a pressure for the temperature increase.) For a pressure blow out you will have a mess on your hands and you will wind up changing out your tube anyway. If you happen to find something that pokes your tire then the slime will probably be a wonderful thing...perhaps kevlar tire liners would be a cleaner option? I don't know if that helps you or not...enjoy your trike !!!

Re: My first trike: The Dream Streaker
Wed, August 20, 2008 - 4:37 PMWell. All is as planned. I have the trike all decked out with lights, EL wire and flags. Then I took a good look at the wheels (especially after all the reports about dust)> I decided some Nubbies would be a good idea considering the two back wheels are only 12" diameiters, and besides, the tread on the trailer wheels is worn completely down!
Linda the trike mechanic!! Fastest tire changer in the west!!!
See you all there!

Re: My first trike: The Dream Streaker
Fri, August 22, 2008 - 10:59 AMI bought solar christmas string lights and put them around the baskets. The solar catcher thing is at the back of the basket. Also "caution - unsafe driver" tape is woven through the baskets. Who knows... but it was fun. -
