DID YOU KNOW
On a deck of cards, the king of spades represents David, King of Israel; the king of Clubs represents Alexander the Great, King of Macedonia; the king of Hearts is Charlemagne, King of France; and the king of Diamonds is Caesar Augustus, Emperor of Rome.
(Although snopes says this is wrong - see www.snopes.com/history/wo...ardking.asp )
It is commonly believed that the 4 suits in a deck of playing cards -- spades, hearts, diamonds, and clubs, derive from French decks of cards. In French decks, the suits represent the four classes: Spades represent nobility, hearts stand for the clergy, diamonds represent merchants, and clubs are peasants.
John Montague, Earl of Sandwich, was a man of doubtful integrity and a compulsive gambler who lived in the 1700s. He was so reluctant to leave a card game even for a meal that he had a servant bring him a piece of meat between two slices of bread so he could eat with one hand and play cards with the other. The new invention was dubbed a sandwich.
Groucho Marx got his name because he used to carry all his poker money in a Grouch Bag. What's a Grouch Bag? It's a bag that hangs around your neck to keep your possessions in.

Re: Trivia about Poker and other card games..
Wed, November 11, 2009 - 1:07 AMI cant cutnpaste at work, so I'll describe it best I can:
Merxican Sweat is a 5 or 7 card stud played with wild jokers, where all cards are dealt down, and bets, raises and calls are made as each card is flipped.
Sometimes it's dull, but on the right hand where more than a couple think they got something or can bluff it, the pot can become humungous!
Once playing penny-ante I won about 100$ on one hand. In a real poker game, that would have been 10,000!~ -
