Shellece will be leaving AZ and like many others who have left, travel to the Northwest. As many of you know Shellece is the assistant director of Troupe Salamat. She is a beautiful dancer and a beautiful person inside and out. She constantly showed patience when teaching others and was always encouraging. We will all miss her dearly and wish her the best.

Yay! Vaudeville

The vaudeville show was wonderful. The Raven Cafe was packed so half the crowd stood outside to see the show ( thank goodness the back of the stage was all windows). The crowd ooed and ahhed over Shellece's Fan number and laughed after Terri and I were shoved off stage after coin op boy. Chelsea, Susan and Shellece all got their hats back after they threw them in the crowd :-) during the Discover number and the crowd was spellbound by Terri's candle tray dance to Natacha Atlas "I have a spell on you" . Susan and Chelsea's Mellow Yellow number was so cute and the yellow fans opened on cue and did not snap like they did during rehearsal. My solo was very well received and the crowd loved our grand finale, all improv baby. Some of the pics have been posted.

New Year Resolutions for bellydancing!

Well I am going to attempt (attempt mind you!) to whittle my waist a little and really work on my body image.
I will work everyday to stay positive and try to stay even tempered and balanced.
I will dedicate my self to dancing and I will not compare myself to others but I will work with my talents and body and enjoy it!
I will work harder on my friendships -- they deserve all the time in the world!

I think that about covers it. Happy New Year Everyone!!

Indigo will help you understand your core control, balancing and spinning which makes those beautiful 16 yard skirts flare out to their full passion.
Indigo has been a popular and sought after performer in the Puget Sound Area for the last 5 years. She is a Multi Award Winning BellyDancer. NATIUM World Dance & Kahlea will be hosting 2008's Bohemian Nights, a bellydance collection. The showcase will be a monthly or every other monthly showcase of all types of bellydance. Alterna-cirque bellies WELCOME!

Shows will take place at a venue in the Tempe area and will have an oldey timey, circus side-show, exotic feel. Bellydancers of all disciplines are welcome from:

Traditional : Egyptian, Turkish, Orientale, Persian, etc...
Tribal: ATS, World Tribal, Fusion, Modern Fusion, and Goth Fusion
World dance: West African, Eastern Euro folk, Flamenco, Zambra, Folklorico
Circus/show dance: Little Egypt, Mata Hari, Aerialists, themed...

Enter another place and time where world fusion bellydance company, NATIUM World Dance, known for blending various world dance flavors with bellydance, hosts Bohemian Nights, A bellydance cirque. This showcase of talent takes place in 2008 at _________, in Tempe Arizona.
As audiences wander in they are greeted with sights, sounds and scents evocative of exotic destinations, worlds away, and of times forgotten. From the rich looking textiles and decorations from other countries, to the sounds of worlds coming together under one roof, audiences will feel as though traveling to mysterious, foreign lands. Wander through the mini bazaar to barter, haggle and bid on unique objects d'arte from artisans and vagabonds.

Each Bohemian Nights showcase kicks off with a free mini bellydance lesson to familiarize the audience with this art form and to incite excitement for the dance jam later. Then, Bohemian Nights becomes a two hour-long showcase of dancers, ranging from student performers showing off what they've learned in classes, to semi-professionals desirous of more exposure, to special professional dancer guest stars who will light up the night. Some performers will dance with props such as swords, Chinese fans, fire, veils, skirts and more. After each event, the dance floor opens up for all dancers, whether in the show or in the audience, to get up and take part in an open-floor bellydance soiree, into the night. Performers from the show come out to dance and migle with the audience and to do a meet and greet. The showcase becomes a party for all to participate.

These events are for 21 and over crowds only, as the venue serves liquor. Come hungry too as the menu has tasty treats from appetizers to delicious grilled burgers.

A portion of ticket sales will be donated to a charity or used to benefit a local business selected by NATIUM World Dance, with a different charity or business selected for each show. Raffle tickets sold will also benefit these select organizations, with all proceeds donated to that charity or business. Gratuities and tips are always appreciated, a portion of which may also be donated to the charity or business selected as well.

New Years Resolutions Anyone ? :-)

The new year is headed towards us at breakneck speed. Normally I do not have any resolutions but this year I decided to join in the fun.

Mine

1. Try to keep my place clean, this includes dishes , blah!

2. Try not to spend so much on bellydance clothes, and this includes buying fabric to make new things. I know this seems a bit crazy but with all the unworn stuff I have in my closet I should be able to go a few months without buying anything........... unless there is a sale :-)

3. Practice more. I am going to attempt to get my dance practice time back to 15 hours a week versus my current 9 hours even if this means I practice belly rolls and shimmies while brushing my teeth.

4. Stretch. Terri is constantly telling me I need to stretch more so I am going to attempt to get at least one straight hour of stretching a week.

5. Stop spending so much money on food. I am the kind of person that even though I have ice cream, truffles, and cookies at home will buy snickers bars just in case I get the urge to eat them. This year I will make sure that I have eaten all the candy at home before I buy more :-)

Troupe Salamat Combos
This workshop will break down the footwork, cue systems and zill patterns of some of Troupe Salamat’s most popular combinations. These will include the Egyptian/ Crescent combo, the Mirror Shimmy combo, and the Cha Cha spin combo. All of these combo’s have specific zill patterns to provide audible interest to your performances, change leadership from side to side and can be used in many different formations.

A basic understanding of a three quarter walking shimmy and the araj zill pattern (RLR RLR) is helpful but not required, as we will start from scratch and add the necessary layers as we go. We’ll also explore slow combo’s that add sensuality and spice to your slow movement repertoire. This workshop is taught in a fun, supportive environment and is appropriate for most dancers and skill levels.

3 pm to 4:45: Troupe Salamat

The Four C's
What are the four C’s? These are the principles that will deepen the ability to lead, read and follow your dance partners in an improvisational dance setting.

This workshop focuses on techniques and principles that expand your abilities to flow with the phrasing and timing of your music, one another and your own innate sense of musicality. Using movements and step work that are basic to American Tribal and Tribal fusion styles of dance, we’ll learn and practice the principles presented.

This workshop is appropriate for dancers of all skill levels, and it will broaden your individual and group improvisation technique while expanding your repertoire in an exciting and upbeat setting, Salamat style!!
