Troupe ‘Hip’notic is looking for more dancers!

We created a little ‘troupe application’ in the form of a questionnaire to help us determine whether your personality, skills and dance philosophy fit well within our troupe dynamic. This application may appear daunting, but we just want to make sure applicants are sincere in their interest and fit well with our troupe dynamic. Any information that explains your dance background, style, personality, dance goals and dance philosophy will help us determine whether you might be a good match for our group.

Anon from Troupe 'Hip'notic is teaching ATS (Gypsy Caravan format) on Thursdays at Karima's Henna Moon Studio in Chesapeake Beach, MD. See below for class information...

Beginner 1 ATS Bellydance
Thursdays • 7:30pm-8:30pm • starting April 3, 2008
You will be introduced to basic steps and movements with emphasis on strengthening, centering and music phrasing.
Please call to register as classes do get full! Bring a friend…its much more fun that way!

Advanced ATS Bellydance
Thursdays • 6:30pm-7:30pm • starting April 3, 2008
This class is meant for intermediate level bellydancers that want to learn ATS. This accelerated program will emphasize basic steps,
their variations, transitions and will focus on the lead-follow format. Because this is an accelerated program for
experienced dancers, instructor’s permission is required.

$50/month or $15 drop-in

All Seasons Troupe Hafla!

Nina is putting together an all-troupe hafla at Cafe Spice, which sounds like it will be so much fun!
So far the troupes performing are Sestraluna, Gypsy Fusion, Troupe MiaNaja and us (Troupe 'Hip'notic), there are possibly other troupes as well.

The Green Door performance

9/15/07 - Anon, Becca & Jesenia will be performing at the Green Door Tavern in St. Mary’s City, MD opening for the band, Diojee, who are returning after a two year hiatus. Performance begins around 10pm. Look out for Jesenia’s new drum solo and for a new duet by Anon & Becca. It was two years ago that Jesenia first saw us dance at The Door and it was this performance that prompted her to begin taking bellydance lessons…we think it’s fitting that she’s dancing with us at this upcoming Green Door performance!

Hey ladies! If it suits, I can stop by practice tomorrow night with white tops for Heather (Netra) and Becca. Also - if anyone has a wish list I can pick it up at that time. We're looking to put together a new order going out to our suppliers next week.
We currently have canes - I know Becca asked about those - and we are going to order more of the Moorish scimitars too.

Kallisti Tribal Viva Bastille Day Inappropriate Hafla!

Kallisti Tribal would like to invite you all to their first ever
Inappropriate Hafla. It's all about being silly and having fun.

Have you been craving to do that new solo to the latest Justin Timberlake song but feel it's too cheesy to break out? Have you been wanting to put on an outrageous bedlah and get down to Madonna? Or maybe you have a little Moulin Rouge in you that's dying to get out? Feel free to bring it all to The Kallisti Tribal Inappropriate Hafla. The only rules are to keep it PG (we're trying to make this kid-friendly) and have fun with it!

The Hafla will be free to all (byob and bring food stuffs) and will be segmented into two portions- the performance portion and free dance. If you're interested in performing, we will have 10 5-10 minute slots available. Feel free to contact me brooke AT kallistitribal DOT com.

When: July 14th 3pm-8pm

Anon Returns! And a roadtrip...

Former troupe member Anon (who you might remember moved to Oregon) is returning to Maryland!!! We’re absolutely thrilled that she’s coming back to us and we welcome her with wide open arms. The trip back is guaranteed to be chockful of stories and adventures… Becca is flying out West to meet her and they are driving back to Maryland in an RV! They’ll also be stopping at Tribal Throwdown, Nouveau Nights and Rakkasah West and who knows where else! The girls will blogging their adventures so stay tuned to find out what mischief they’ll be up to. The madness begins on 3/17…

Upcoming performancesss

Ok, well this is sort of a tease, because although we DO have quite a few performances coming up, most of them are private
hehe
The one that is not a private event is, of course, the one we know the least about. BUT what we do know about it sounds really cool.
An SCA group happens to practice in the room next door to where our troupe practices, and a while ago they invited us to be a part of a big SCA Hafla thing. I don't know what the official name for it is, but I will try to figure it out. They're having a big middle eastern type party thing with middle eastern food etc, and they asked our troupe, and our friends from Troupe Corvus and the Southern MD Bellydance Collective to dance there too.

New troupe member!

You may have seen her in her first ever (yes, really!) performance at Casablanca but Troupe ‘Hip’notic is excited to announce that a new dancer has joined the troupe! A few months ago Jesenia was invited to troupe practice to check it out, and never really left. In doing so, she really proved herself by picking up choreographies in record time, selflessly volunteering her time to help setup/breakdown for events, and in general by just being a wonderful person to be around…and so, we asked her if she’d like to be a troupe member! Welcome Jesenia!

Casablanca Show

Troupe 'Hip'notic will be part of Yucy's Casablanca Arabian Nights Show on December 1st. Doors open at 9:30 PM with open buffet untill Midnight, and the show starts at 10:30pm
Featured dancers include: Nadirah Nasreen, Dianna, Jemina, Amirah Azhar, Alhena Suhayla, and Yucy's Belly Dance for Life students.
Admission: $20 includes cover charge and open buffet! (Tips and drinks are not included)
