Okay, the first weekend is under our belts. If any one wants to post their thoughts or critiques feel free. From my perspectives here are some positives: Men of Thunda will drum for our 2:30 show (Awesome!) We are a hit in the parade and made alot of noise. We are a colorful addition to the Faire. The pub show set up rocks and we made super tips in the pub. We grew in our improv ability by leaps and bounds in ONE weekend. The site is beautiful and all of the entertainers are class acts.
Set backs: We had to haul all of our equipment in on our backs no driving the car right up to the gate to load and unload. There is no sound system. I bought a 170 watt system for when we are not working with drummers. The mud was horrid. The camping bathrooms are not completed. Our shows are at 2:30, 3:30, and 4:30 pant.pant.pant! The mainstage was awful lonely on Sunday very few patrons on this day. And finally a black head wrap on your head is like dancing with an oven mit on your head hot, hot, hot!

Agreed on all points!! This faire proves to be a fun time this summer for KY! We have met and are fortunate enough to have our Egyptian Encampment next to some very fine folks! Wait till you taste the honey!!

At any rate, we have worked out many kinks and can now go with the flow, with whomever is up for the weekend. Men of Thunda are an awesome addition to the faire and we are excited to have them play for us! We also met another nice drummer and his wife who play "gypsies" in the cast and another drummer whose wife dances with Isis (I think).

The mud was an absolute nightmare on Friday and the first part of Saturday, but continued to dry out as the weekend progressed. A big , beautiful bathouse in the campground area for cast and crew will be a fantastic addition - once the toilets and showers are installed. I understand that not many Ren Faires offer this.

We have a relaxed morning before and after the parade at 12:00, noon. Then we are hopping from one show to the next-but not running! If it weren't for the stuff that needs to be schlepped from place to place, it would be a breeze! Anyone have a red flyer wagon??? Or a couple of unich slaves????

All in all, I must admit that I am proud of our personas and who it is we represent. We have already educated a fair amount of folks (including cast and crew) about who we are and are not! We bring something that noone else does and it is period correct! I have heard some positive feedback about our shows as well!

A note to anyone dancing outside in the summer--No turbans on the head! Just as Fatin pointed out, it becomes an oven. No place for the heat to escape and KY in the summer is very hot and humid. A simple scarf will suffice. I must say that I did enjoy each "stage", especially improvising on main street in Briarwood! And what a story we have to tell!! Curse that wicked stepmother!! Hissss- May Allah send scorpions to nest in her hair!!

P.S. If you have trouble finding the faire just ask one of the Pentacostals! I say this all in fun!!

Hello from the Briarwood town drunk!

Your shows are really at 2:30, 3:30, and 4:30? Wow, that's pretty rough. I only caught part of one of your shows, but I enjoyed it.

Personally I don't know the difference, but I know our cast historian was thrilled with the research you guys did in coming up with a historically accurate troupe. :)

      Thank you!
It was very important to us to find a histroically plausible way for a Mid East dance group to be in Scotland at the faire. I have read too many complaints from faire goers regarding dance troupes that use modern music, wear modern dance costumes and use modern language. I do say that some faire goers may be disappointed by our lack of exposed mid drifts. (For shame, a lass would be arrested for uncomely displays!) My one regret is that we have to use any canned music but we have already replaced one performance with live drumming so it is a work in progress. By the way you are a great drunk (are you acting or did you have a wee nip?) I think we might be able to work out a fun interaction. Maybe come by our 2:30 show in the street and take the sword off my head or something like that.....

Live music makes a huge difference in terms of show energy and drawing the audience in, I think. At least it does for me. If Men of Thunda can't drum for your later shows I'm sure Zerek (the cast gypsy) would be happy to help. Although you should check with him and not tell him I volunteered him. :)

And it's all acting, unfortunately. I argued that I should be allowed at least one drink so my breath smells like alcohol, but the director disagreed. But I believe I am assigned to wander the main street area at 2:30, so we can work sometrhing out for that show.

I know. I love live drums too! Ed was not able to hire the drummer we work with on a regular bais but I am hoping she will attend this Sat with free entry fee as an incentive....I am emailing her in one hot second. So, let's talk on Sat for some collaboration.
