My name is Toni green i live in the trout house and I've been going for the past 2 burns
i would love to go again this year!!!
I am looking for a ride for 2 people with all the gear
it will be my 3rd burn and my friend Elizabeth's 1st
if there are 2 spots in different cars thats ok
we hope to leave vancouver on the sunday or the monday
we can pay gas and things no problem
if there are a few people without rides and we cant find one thats already going perhaps we can all come together and rent a car
i hope to contribute to the LNT efforts late monday early tuesday
and i know of a perfect HOT SPRINGS trip thats on the way back to canada
but really all plans are flexible

At 1st i was extremely put off by the theme and the street names and the renegade not quite a real theme camp set up .....
but i am now soooo excited for all of those reasons.
if you don't like the theme make your own ,
if you don't like the street names call it something else ....be responsible for creating a camp instead of being spoon fed by one of the best meal plans on the playa
i think its great that its going to be a bit more of a challenge this year and i really look forward to it

thank you kids soo much for all the adventures past, present and in the next coming weeks !!!!!

best way to get a hold of me is this email Dizzymoonchild@hotmail.com but you can try to call the house if you like 677-2784

Ive got no time to make a set of stilts and the festival season is upon us!!!!! I would love it if you would consider gifting or trading or selling cheaply any kind of stilts you happen to have lying around the house. They would be going towards a burning man costume and any kind of theater stuff the TROUT HOUSE happens to need them for.
We looked towards our destination and saw familiar lightshow experimentations beaming out from within.
We ran towards the house and immediately became immersed:

it's alone time -challenging my fear time- spending endless hours writing and singing and dancing with the ocean time
friends.family.community. something that i've been so blessed to share and celebrate with my whole life and now - in sacred, totally fucked up, monsanto ridden maui, i'm finally for the first time spending time with me. just me. no longer as scared to camp, explore, play music and be alone.
woohoo!

so yesterday - the dirt roads lead me and a brewing brother to a chakruna patch - the sacred queen whose leaves produce ioasca. and she spoke to me, as we harvested in the lush jungle valley by the river - a hidden pocket amidst arid mountains majesty
of all the visions sacredity she said
'woman! get yourself to a computer and reminds the trouts how much you love them'
so here i am - here i be
about to leave maui

I am with a group of 3 others that are looking for one more artist to share affordable studio space to create wondrous artistic creations. We also intend to be a supportive community that helps each other to realize our artistic dreams.

I am a painter, Melly makes burlesque related costume, Jessica is a photographer, and Kiva makes jewelry and other items out of reclaimed materials. I personally would love to have another painter involved.

We plan to host monthly events such as art shows, performances, screenings, or installations. We also plan to offer workshops to the public, so if you have some wisdom to offer, this may be a venue for you to get some exposure and earn some extra income.

We have found a storefront location next to a darkroom cooperative and across from the Heaventree Gallery on Kingsway.

Our space is limited so we can only take on one more artist at the time, and my preference is for a painter or multimedia artist, but... if you know a bunch of people who want to create another studio, there are three other spaces for lease in the area -- mostly around $1500 a month for 1500 square feet. I could get you the contact information for the landlords and we could turn this area of Kingsway into an artistic hub -- which would rock. It is not too far from Main and 16th, but closer to Fraser.

We are planning on moving in in September.

Please forward this information to your friends who are looking to bring their artistic expression to the forefront of their lives. Get in touch with me if you would like to know more.
go and celebrate, settle some more before school starts again in September.
I was hoping to get in a house with 3-4 other people, preferably creative types. My goal is to start up another

The future of arts and culture in BC needs your help!

The Provincial Government's Standing Committee on Finance recently
recommended in its budget report to Treasury Board that the
government: "increase funding to the BC Arts Council to enhance arts
and culture in the province."

This is great news! But for this recommendation to have effect, the
Ministry for Tourism Sport and the Arts needs to follow up with a
request to Treasury Board for an increase to their budget.

And you can help make this happen.

Here's what you can do:

1) Email the Honourable Stan Hagen, Minister for Tourism, Sport and
the Arts (stan.hagen.mla@leg.bc.ca) saying you endorse the Standing
Committee's recommendation. Specifically, tell him you support the
following key recommendation:

"To ensure an adequate investment in sustainable communities
throughout British Columbia, Arts Future BC is recommending all-party
support for an increased investment of $32 million in Arts and
Culture through the British Columbia Arts Council, in the 2007-2009
budgets."

2) Send a copy of your email to:

The Honourable Carol Taylor, Minister of Finance
(carol.taylor@leg.bc.ca)

and to the members of Treasury Board:
Honourable Rick Thorpe, Vice Chair rick.thorpe.mla@leg.bc.ca
Honourable Pat Bell pat.bell.mla@leg.bc.ca
Honourable Bill Bennett bill.bennett.mla@leg.bc.ca
Honourable Shirley Bond shirley.bond.mla@leg.bc.ca
Honourable Ida Chong ida.chong.mla@leg.bc.ca
Honourable Rich Coleman rich.coleman.mla@leg.bc.ca
Honourable Kevin Falcon kevin.falcon.mla@leg.bc.ca
Honourable Colin Hansen colin.hansen.mla@leg.bc.ca
Honourable Linda Reid linda.reid.mla@leg.bc.ca
John Yap, MLA john.yap.mla@leg.bc.ca
Iain Black, MLA iain.black.mla@leg.bc.ca

3) Send a copy to your own MLA. You can find your MLA's email address
at www.leg.bc.ca/mla/3-1-1.htm

4) Send a copy to the Alliance for Arts and Culture
(hredfern@allianceforarts.com) so we can keep track of the numbers of
letters going to the minister.

These correspondences need to go out by December 10, 2006.

You can find a sample letter you can use, or adapt, here: (see end of this mail - )
www.allianceforarts.com/advoca...gen.pdf

Or you can write your own. Just be sure to say you endorse the
Standing Committee's recommendation and support an increased
investment of $32 million to the BC Arts Council in the 2007 to 2009 budgets to support arts and culture in BC.

Background

Throughout the fall, the Alliance for Arts and Culture through Arts
Future BC has been coordinating submissions to the Standing Committee
on Finance and Government Services. This is the committee that makes
recommendations to Treasury Board for the upcoming provincial budget.
The Committee toured the province this fall getting community input.
Arts Future BC coordinated oral presentations to the Committee in
eight regional centres and presented the Committee with a detailed
written brief . All of these presentations focused on the
recommendation to increase BC's investment in arts and culture with a
$32 million increase to BC Arts Council's budget.

Who is Arts Future BC?

Arts Future BC is a coalition of eight BC arts and culture service
organizations and citizens groups. The Alliance is one of the
founding members. Between us we represent over 900 arts
organizations and thousands of individual artists and arts supporters
throughout the province.

Why Now?

A delegation from Arts Future BC will be asking for the Honourable
Stan Hagen, Minister for Tourism, Sport and the Arts for his support
for the Standing Committee on Finance's recommendation to increase
support for arts and culture through BC Arts Council. Your letters
will add strength to our arguments and show the Minister that he has
a broad base of support for this initiative.

Why BC Arts Council?

Arts Future BC believes that BC Arts Council is THE vehicle to
deliver this much needed investment: it puts funding into the hands
of individual artists and arts organizations directly engaged in arts
and culture creation, production and dissemination, and community
development through the arts, working throughout the province. BC
Arts Council is also the best agency to deliver core funding to build
sustainable arts organizations, to support BC artists, and to ensure
that BC communities benefit from a stable arts sector that
contributes to the social and economic health of the community.

Why $32 million?

Arts Future BC has researched Provincial Government's current
investment in arts and culture, set reasonable funding targets and
costed out what it would take to reach these targets. $32 million
will move us from one of the lowest of Canada's provinces in
contributions to arts and culture to one of the highest. This is not
unreasonable considering BC has one of the most vibrant arts and
culture sectors in the country. This increase will also provide much
needed longer term stability for BC's arts and culture community.

THANK YOU!

Sample Letter

The Honourable Stan Hagen, MLA
Ministry of Tourism Sport and the Arts
Room 028, Parliament Buildings Victoria, BC V8V 1X4
stan.hagen.mla@leg.bc.ca
Dear Minister Hagen
I am writing on behalf of NAME OF ORGANIZATION, which operates in MUNICIPALITY, in REGION of BC and as a citizen who strongly believes in the importance of arts and culture to our province and supports government investment in the arts.
I want to register my strong support for the following recommendation made by the Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services in its November 16, 2006 Report on the 2007 Budget Consultations: that the government, "increase funding to the BC Arts Council to enhance arts and culture in the province."
I also support the key recommendation made by Arts Future BC in oral submissions before the Committee in eight BC centres and its written brief to the Committee. Arts Future BC is a coalition representing over 900 BC arts organizations and thousands of individual artists and arts supporters. To ensure an adequate investment in sustainable communities throughout British Columbia, Arts Future BC is recommending all-party support for an increased investment of $32 million in Arts and Culture through the British Columbia Arts Council, in the 2007–2009 budgets.
In making its recommendation to Treasury Board, the Committee stated that it "… believes that the combined efforts of the arts community in British Columbia present a compelling argument for a significant increase to the core funding provided to the B.C. Arts Council to support arts and culture in B.C."
A strong arts and culture sector benefits all of BC’s communities and its citizens. The arts generate social and economic health in our province far beyond the current government investment. I urge you, as minister responsible for the arts, to support the Committee’s recommendation by including an increase of $32 million to British Columbia Arts Council in your 2007 to 2009 service plan and in your ministry's budget requests to Treasury Board for the same period.
The support of the Ministry for Tourism, Sport and the Arts to the recommended increase will be your ministry’s arts and cultural legacy to the 2010 Olympic Games and beyond. A sustainable arts and culture sector will also make a significant contribution towards achieving the government’s five strategic goals.
In the words of Premier Gordon Campbell, "Arts and Culture play a critical role in defining and enriching our communities, our unique BC identity, and the lives of us all wherever we live. The arts are also important contributor to our economy as well as to our society."
Yours truly,

The GWAC election is tomorrow night, WEDNESDAY OCT 11.

The old guard may be massing their forces. We need to get a good showing out to vote in our slate. This could mark the beginning of the end of the Highway Expansion madness, and a leap forward for Car-Free Drive Fun -- please circulate and tell all your friends!
Please forward to all neighbours!

NOTICE of GRANDVIEW-WOODLANDS AREA COUNCIL AGM

Hello to all residents and active participants in Grandview Woodlands.

(fyi, GW Area is bounded by: Broadway to the Burrard Inlet, Nanaimo to Clark -- and this includes people who live and/or work in the area).
You are receiving this message because you are passionate about your community and want to see it prosper and thrive – culturally, socially, environmentally, and economically.

THIS Wednesday, October 11, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., is the election of the Board of Directors for GWAC (Grandview-Woodlands Area Council). Although it has no political autonomy, GWAC is considered by key decision-makers to be the voice of our community. GWAC serves as a "watchdog" on trends and currents within the area, and is recognized as a respected body to lead our ever-shifting community and help direct its evolution.

I have been working with a group of neighbours to try to assemble a GWAC Board which is diverse in representation and perspective, but which is outspokenly pro-pedestrian, pro-Commercial Drive Festival, and pro-greenway. A Board which will be a force in resisting the planned expansion of Highway 1, which could have a tragic effect on our neighbourhood. A Board which is interested in examining the roots of the challenges our community faces, and meeting those challenges with innovative and humane solutions.

We need YOU to come out on Wed. Oct 11, to vote for a progressive and action-oriented board as we face the challenges of social shifts, increased traffic, and reduced green space in our beloved community.

Please come out and bring your like-minded neighbours!
Details:

What: GWAC AGM
When: October 11, 2006, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Where: Learning Resources Centre, under the Britannia library
Who: Below is the progressive slate followed by biographies

Important: Please bring proof that you live or work in Grandview-Woodland (I.D, cheque stub or addressed mail), and please come early if you want to get a seat!

Feel free to contact Jill Smith, an incumbent Board member, if you want additional information about GWAC: jill@libradigital.com, or email Carmen at carmen@emeraldcity.bc.ca

Thank you for your participation, we look forward to seeing you Wednesday!
********************************
The Board of GWAC consists of twelve Directors.
Ben West

*Current progressive board members running for re-election.

Biographies:

Corin Browne is a media educator, video maker, and community artist. Corin has lived and worked in the Grandview –Woodlands neighborhood since 1998. Neighborhood issues of interest to Corin are: sustainable transportation, community participation in planning, and youth work and advocacy. As a GWAC member, I would like to support pedestrian and bike friendly planning, community events like the car-free festival, and neighborhood-based initiatives that make this community so diverse and vibrant.

Dr. Mike Carr teaches sustainable urban planning in SFU's Urban Studies (Masters) Program at Harbour Centre and bioregional mapping at The School of Community & Regional Planning, UBC. He has many years experience working in community civic associations and has lived in Grandview-Woodlands for five years. Mike is concerned about issues of social justice and equity as well as environmental sustainability in both neighbourhood and region. He is a member of the Livable Region Coalition and believes that we all need to work hard together to defeat the Gateway Project's twinning of the Port Mann Bridge and extension of highway one into Vancouver which threatens the health and livability of Grandview-Woodlands and the region.

Caitlin Dodd is a community video maker and Communications student at SFU and is currently studying alternative media production and media literacy. She has lived and worked in the grandview woodlands area for twenty-one years, and is eager to get involved with issues of maintaining the human dimension in the urban space of East Vancouver.

Bing Jensen has lived in the Commercial Drive area for 16 years. He has served on the GWAC for the 2005/2006 year as a Director. Bing works here as a singer and songwriter. He also does odd jobs for people in the neighbourhood. Community is very important to him. He is for traffic calming, green spaces and the DriveFest and is against through cutting commuter traffic, the twinning of the Port Mann Bridge and the stench of the rendering plant. Bing feels it is important to have a balance between the needs of the residents and the needs of the businesses in the community.

Charles Montgomery is an award-winning writer and journalist. He has lived in the neighbourhood for two years, and recently became co-owner of a house at 1122 Rose Street. As a member of the GWAC board, he would work to ensure the neighbourhood remains a vibrant place to live, work and recreate. He believes that GWAC can achieve this by promoting pedestrian and bike-friendly events and spaces, and advocating sustainable land use and transportation planning for the neighbourhood and the region.

Craig Ollenberger, a current director of GWAC, has been living in Grandview Woodlands for the last three years and over that time he has become involved in a number of non-profit initiatives in our community. His interest in being a part of GWAC stems from the important role GWAC can play as a liaison between our neighbourhood and decision making bodies. The City of Vancouver, the Provincial Government and many other organizations come to GWAC to assess neighbourhood opinion on various issues, and he believes he can represent our neighbourhood well in this capacity.

Kevin Potvin is owner of Magpie Magazine Gallery on the Drive, founded 12 years ago, and is the publisher of The Republic of East Vancouver Newspaper, launched in 2000. He has written a column in the east side edition of the Courier for the last 11 years. He has lived in the neighbourhood for 20 years and has taken an active progressive interest in issues important to the Grandview Woodlands neighbourhood.

Jill Smith, a local pedestrian activist, has been secretary of GWAC for the past year and half. As part of this board, she brought successful motions (1) to properly grant DriveFest profits held by GWAC to the East Van Celebration Society, (2) in favour of greening Venables, (3) to lobby the city to study the impacts of Highway 1 expansion, among others. Jill worked with four neighbours to create a Venables Greenway proposal that was one of the winners of a Vancouver Planning Commission public realm ideas competition - "21 Places". On a personal note, Jill also organizes her street's block party and has hosted a series of performances in her home as part of the In-the-House festival of the arts.

Dexster Smith has been a director on the current and previous GWAC boards. Prior to joining GWAC, Dexster helped coordinate a successful grassroots campaign of local residents, merchants and numerous community groups, to save Victoria Drive from becoming a major through-street and to reduce traffic into the neighbourhood He was part of the progressive coalition on the latest GWAC board to return DriveFest profits to the organizers. As part of the previous board, he co-authored a Pedestrians First resolution that fostered a number of pedestrian improvements in the neighbourhood.

Anne Sproull has lived and worked in the area for 13 years. She holds a BArch and teaches courses for kids in architecture at Arts Umbrella and through the VSB. She has also served as a fitness instructor at Britannia Community Centre. As a member of the Friends of Salsbury Garden, she has sought to preserve valuable green space in the community, especially for young people, to maintain their connectedness to nature in an urban environment. Through GWAC, she seeks to promote and protect the cultural vibrancy that defines our neighborhood.

Petronella Vander Valk has lived and worked in Grandview-Woodland for the past 16 years, and greatly appreciates and values the sense of community shared within the neighbourhood. She would like to help preserve and build on this community feeling and believes that this is possible through creating a greener, more pedestrian and people oriented neighbourhood. Petronella was a director on the GWAC board for 2005/2006, and is a founder member of the Neighbourhood Traffic Committee, a group involved in trying to reduce traffic on our residential streets. Currently in real estate sales, Petronella has a Bachelor of Arts degree in urban geography and urban sociology and a Bachelor of Architecture degree.

Ben West is dedicated local who has lived in the region for the better part of 10 years. Ben, a filmmaker, recently released his first feature length documentary Alarm Clocks Kill Dreams. He was elected to Capilano College's board of governors 4 times and spent 3 years as a representative on the Canadian Federation of Students Provincial council and has played various roles in a number of different non-profits. Ben is dedicated to working towards the implementation of a livable region strategy at the local level, with an emphasis on traffic calming, community gardening and support for local arts and culture.

So, I may be moving to Vancouver....it's a toss up between photography school in San Francisco or Vancouver or going to india.....or all the other amazing possibilities......but I am strongly considering placing most of my energy into photography in Vancouver....so, i'll be needing a place to stay.....i find it sometimes hard to be in a city and long for the intamacy of living in community, in eco-villages.....if i can find a group of healers and artists to live with while staying in the city it will be fantastic.....Is there a room available at the trout house? i have a strong need to express the changes that are happening in the world through art....to be an eco-warrior artist, showing the beauty of this planet, teaching people about sustainability and the eco-village movement through photography and other mediums.....my path is community and its how i live when i'm not developing my art in a city........just a bit about where I'm at.....

love and light,

Kat! Great news! I just found out today that I got accepted into this AWESOME video production training program that will
pay me to do an intensive 6-month training (in which I'll have total creative control!). . .so what doesthat mean for you? I'LL BE ABLE TO PAY THAT PESKY SECURITY DEPOSIT IN MAY!
also, i'll be able to stay! the last couple of months have been very curious as to how i'll be able to stay in the city what with my INTENSE desire to sell my time for the right reasons. meaning: i've been broke cause i haven't got a job (solely living off my creative venture revenues).
also, i heard YOU speak a fabulous dialect of the video language!
also, you're coming home soon!!
also, things are going GREAT here. . .big shifting with love bugs of laura and marley leaving us- three dimensionally anyways. . .oh ya! laura's end of school show is tonight! wow- she IS GENIUS, isn't she? have you seen her videos? you will soon! also, i heard (via her friend greg that's visiting right now from chicago) that ilana's coming back! not till the fall (well, we'll see what happens)
WOW YA sorry about my being so evasive in the past while. .
i appreciate your patience and want to make it up to you somehow. . .well, i'll start by paying that deposit!
have so much fun wrapping stuff up down there. .
we're all excited to have you back!
peas,
adriane

and this bounced back this morning!

this is all wizard news!!!!
yes, ilana will be back in the trout house in
september!!
jack and i will prob be back around june or so. and
we'll continue living in the van, because we LOVE it.
that program sounds dreamy. you get paid and trained
at the same time?! if there other opportunities
available for someone like me...keep me in mind.
xo,
Kat
