Sorry to perform and leave but....

we're off to England! Tribal Fest was awesome this year, we had a great time performing at the pre-party, and seeing everyone, and getting (finally) the opiumhead cd, and watching all the great dancers, and getting my tshirt cut up, and getting our annual melodias, and hanging out with awesome people, and the list goes on.
but now we must leave. we'll be in londontown for a couple days, then tribal ford (yay) and then scotland! teresa and elizabeth and i are really excited to go...we'll see you guys in 2 weeks!

Hello everyone. I am the Volunteer Coordinator for MECDA’s 2008 Belly Dance Carnival. This year’s Carnival will be held Saturday and Sunday, June 7 & 8, 2008, at Santa Anita Park Racetrack and we are currently seeking Volunteers.

Remember, on the day that you volunteer 2 hours of your time, ADMISSION IS FREE!!!!
Volunteer for 2 hours each day and ADMISSION IS FREE FOR THE ENTIRE WEEKEND!!!!

What makes Tsingani stand out? The innovative mix of more traditional Tribal Style moves pumped up with pizzazz! This workshop brings a fresh approach to the classics as well as Tsingani originals- moves with attitude! We will cover fast combos that burn up the stage and slow ones that drip with hotness!

Tribal Fusion Choreography - Tsingani Style 3 pm - 5 pm
The focus of this workshop will be a slow, mesmerizing choreography that you can use to spice up your routines. We will focus on muscle isolation and control, incorporating Tsingani signature moves just to keep it fresh! Be sure to bring your knee pads in case we have time to throw in some floor work (nothing too hard!).

Tsingani workshop descriptions

Hello everyone!

In repsonse to some talk on tribe about people wanting better workshop descriptions, I have made some modifications to our workshop descriptions for March 1 at the Oasis Dance Studio in Highland.

PLEASE NOTE: The content will be the same!! I just wanted everyone to be clear on exactly what we will be teaching.
I hope this helps!

ANOTHER NOTE: All of our workshops are detail oriented, focusing on technique, muscle isolation and control.

Workshop #1 – Tsingani Signature Combos

What makes Tsingani stand out? The innovative mix of more traditional Tribal Style moves pumped up with pizzazz! In this workshop, we will breakdown Tsingani combos, specify which are for choreography and which are basic to improv, and then we will drill, drill drill by practicing these moves in an improv setting as a group. The choreography combos are in preparation for the Choreography workshop. Be prepared to take notes and ask questions – we will be covering a lot of material.
Skill Level : Intermediate to Advanced.

Workshop #2 – Tribal Fusion Choreography – “Tsingani Style”

Our fast is FAST and our slow is medium in tempo.
The focus of this workshop will be a slow, mesmerizing choreography that you can use to spice up your routines. *This workshop is for people who learn choreography quickly.* We will focus on muscle isolation and control and we will be incorporating Tsingani signature moves so we highly recommend you prep for this workshop by taking the Signature moves workshop first. We move quickly but thoroughly through the breakdown in order to get through it all. Take notes on the handouts provided and bring a video camera to help you get through the madness!

We were both so nervous it was nice to have our mentors up there with us on stage I know for me it helped keep my nerves under control. 3 weekends with Tsingani! SESSIONS Workshop series***

Yup, Tsingani will be BRINGIN' IT to Los Angeles in 2008 to give us a giant dose of those magical Tsingani moves we love to watch.

Here's the deets:
Jan. 19 – Sat.
Jan. 26 – Sat. (plus, there will be a showcase at Froggy's in Topanga on this night! Separate admission)
Feb. 2 – Sat.

These will each be 2 1/2 hour classes, taught by both Teresa & Bonnie. We will be learning some of their signature moves and the underpinnings of their unique and sassy, incomparable stylings that make them stand out as a Duet. Tsingani has become reknowned for their original thinking in their artistry - the "Dune" costumes, blindfolded dancing and something new every time we see them.

Fees: Before Dec. 29
SPECIAL PRICE: Series of 3 all workshops - $90 -- That's 7 1/2 hours of workshop instruction with TWO Teachers!

We will work with common tribal vocabulary to transform ordinary moves into a visual delight! Be prepared …..we are detail freaks!

Workshop #2 – Tsingani Signature Moves
These moves are a combination of traditional tribal steps blended with lots of attitude! Working on the concepts learned in Workshop #1, Tsingani teaches you each move with a focus on timing and technique in order to flawlessly execute some of our favorite combos.

Workshop #3 – “Tsingani Tsass!”
That’s right- put it all together for a’ Tsassy Tsingani’ choreography. Utilizing the concepts taught in the previous workshops, we will teach you a fast, innovative routine that incorporates some of our signature moves with seamless isolations and transitions.

To Shoe or not To Shoe...

That is the question! I've always wondered if wearing some kind of shoes, be it ballet slippers, china flats, herme's sandals, jazz shoe, etc., is part of the tribal costume? Do you wear them in class? Is it better to learn this dance barefooted?
Wearing shoes for outdoor events, restaurants, clubs, etc. for the beginner who may not be used to having something on their feet if they're used to being barefoot in class. It is a different feeling esp. in spins.

I personally can dance with or without shoes, I currently teach barefoot but my students have the choice right now whatever they want to wear or not wear, but I will be teaching at a Flamenco studio soon that has plywood floors, unvarnished (for now) and until I can get the flooring or carpeting, can shoes be an option to avoid the obvious splinters?

New cycle of classes

Starting January 7th from 6-7pm is Level 1 - Tribal Basics. This class focuses on posture, music, and body awareness while learning basic upper and lower body isolations. Open to all that are interested in exploring a fun dance!!
Please wear something comfortable- anything you would wear to the gym would be appropriate.
Classes are $15.00 per class or $40.00 per month.
This class is open and rotates in 4 month cycles.

Bad news: Tsingani will not be teaching their Fusion workshop on Nov 3 at the 2007 Caba-ribal festival in Bakersfield. Instead, please check out the fantastic Lydia of Tanjora Tribal and her Tribal Fusion Choreography workshop! All the Caba-ribal information is now updated at www.Caba-Ribal.com, and their tribe.net spot as well. It's going to be better then ever this year so check it out!

Hiplash on YouTube Finally!!

Soooo, here's what you all (okay, maybe not "all" but *some* of you, or at least a *few* of you) have been waiting for!!!

Hiplash finally has a video on YouTube!! Yay!!!! I am so excited! The video is of our performance at the monthly showcase, TaXim in Eagle Rock, CA. It was so much fun, and I think we had a pretty good show. Solace played live music, which was amazing as usual. We even had an encore presentation after the crowd shouted for us to come back out! (well, they were shouting... hmm, maybe they were saying something else?) ;)

New Cycle of Tribal Classes!!

Starting January 8th from 6-7pm is Level 1 - Tribal Basics. This class focuses on posture, music, and body awareness while learning basic upper and lower body isolations. Open to all that are interested in exploring a fun dance!!
Please wear something comfortable- anything you would wear to the gym would be appropriate.
Classes are $15.00 per class, $40.00 per month or $130.00 for 4 months.
This class is open and rotates in 4 month cycles.

Beach Party....The Sequel.....

Hello all you party animals!!!

Since so many of you enjoyed yourselves at the beach party in July, and since some did not get the chance to come, we decided to have another one!!!

So here are the details:

Aug.26th at Port San Luis in Avila Beach.
We will be setting up in the morning and staying until we need to go to bed! That means come when you want and stay as long as you want. We will have a BBQ, Volley Ball net, football and I am sure some other play toys. There will be music and dancing so bring a drum if you have one. Bring whatever you want to throw on the BBQ, we will be bringing snacks to share. Technically, there is no alcohol allowed on the beach, so if you bring it, keep it hidden.

There is another beach that Teresa has heard about (thanks Cara & Christi!) that we could go to instead of Port San Luis if you guys want to camp out. Let me know, cuz we liked where we were but if there is enough interest, maybe we can have a camp over!

Awesome Beach party!!

This was the best birthday yet! I had such a wonderful day with all of you that came out to the beach. It was perfect!!!
The weather could not have been nicer, I loved seeing all the seals and watching the Kamakazi pelicans- that was great. And I really liked playing Dana's horse shoe thingy game, and the volleyball game got pretty fierce! But when the dancing started, and then the drumming and dancing, and watching Elizabeth, Asye and Laurie dancing- woohoo!! Asye has so many cool variations on moves, I could have watched you girls all night.
And thanks for all the happy birthday wishes from all of you- and of course, all my girls - Sacred Skin, Sacred Sole and Tsingani- you girls are the best!!
I only wish Cynthia could have been there :(

My Heros

Bonnie and Lilly are my heros.

Bonnie, because she never lets me say "it can't be done". She is always there, willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen. And she is the best dance instructor ever!

Lilly....sweet, sweet Lilly. She is trully the epitomy of resilence. Even through all the adversity she has encountered, she continues to make it happen. I want to be like you when I grow up!

And of course my husband Don, who makes always makes senses.

Ok so I guess it is time to introduce everyone. If you look at the picture ( not the squirrel!) you will see me on the left, then Bonnie and Lilly.
Bonnie is a Cal Poly student anxiuosly awaiting graduation in Dec. -Yeah Bonnie!! She has being dancing Tribal for about 1 year now. We are hoping that she gets to stay on the Central Coast by finding a great job (preferably teaching Tribal but one can only hope!)
Lilly.....oh my lovely Lilly....so sweet!!! Lilly just got married this year and has been dancing for a little more than 1 year as well. Don't mistake lilly's quiet nature cuz she is a bombshell!! LOOK OUT!!
