I am looking to expand my DVD collection in the Turkish-style department, and I looking for further recommendations. (I am not into Youtube.)
Here's what I know of and/or own:
Instructional
- Artemis' IAMED DVD
- Sarah Skinner's DVD (not strictly Turkish)
- Dalia Carella's Shuvani (great fusion to 9/8)
- Delilah's 9/8 veil
Performance
- Aszmara live with Transition (not strictly Turkish, but fabulous)
- Artemis Dances
- Lifting the veil of time
I feel that I must be missing out on a lot. Eva Cernik has several tapes for sale, but I don't think these are out on DVD. Ozel Turkbas has an instructional VCD, but I can't find it for sale. Still, there MUST be more, right?

They have quite a lot of VCDs. I've bought from them before, they are reputable. -

Re: Turkish-style DVDs?
Fri, March 6, 2009 - 9:22 PMOzel Turkbas' dvd is a great find, albeit not necessarily for instructional use. I really recommend the "Super Orientale" dvd. It features Tulay Karaca, Burhan Ocal and a few other dancers, some Roman, some obviously not actually bellydancers unfortunately. Don't be alarmed that it was produced in the US, it is undoubtedly Turkish. A great find!
I study with a teacher who studies with Hale Sultan, she has videos on youtube (sorry, I know you don't like it). Let us know what you find and what you think! -

Re: Turkish-style DVDs?
Sat, March 7, 2009 - 6:05 AMKristnh, is there really a dancer named Burhan Ocal? Because the famous one is a (guy) drummer - i think Burhan is mostly a males name.... you probably know all that but i was just curious if there had been a dancer with the same name. -

Tue, March 10, 2009 - 6:35 PMHa! What, you think Burhan Ocal couldnt bellydance? I bet he wouldnt really appreciate your lack of faith in him.
