There will not be enough members of Turku at Pennsic this year for us to stage a concert. We sure miss that party; it's always a blast for us.
I will be there, tho, and I would be glad to work with any dancers on this tribe who would like some help with zil or improvisation. Just flag me down at pennsic, and we'll find some time. (I work better with individuals than classes on these subjects)
See you there!

Re: Pennsic
Tue, July 1, 2008 - 6:26 AMThere will be a Guedra on Sunday Aug 3 at 8pm in the Middle Eastern Dance class tent at Pennsic.
I've been leading a Guedra at Pennsic for maybe 12 years now, I've lost track.
Guedra is a North African trance dance. I will teach the chant, which everyone who is not dancing will do. Then, I'll teach the dance, which is done from the knees, with the dancer covered in a veil. Instruction usually takes 30-45 minutes. We will then perform the Guedra until our voices are gone (usually less than 2 hours)
The dance requires no previous dance training.
Bring a bottle of water. Bring a veil if you wish to perform the dance.
Women only (children are ok)
