For those of you that knew and loved Amira (aka Victoria Bedford) she passed away Tuesday night of brain cancer.
For those of you that didn't know her, she was a sweet and loving person that always shared what little she had.
She camped with us at Orluk Oasis for many years, but I met her in Charlotte in the early 90's. She was dancing at a restaurant there and we hit it right off. She was right there in the middle of the first wave of belly dance in America and knew so much. I was a fledgling dancer doing my own thing with drum circles in the woods. She taught me more about professional dancing and I introduced her to the pennsic style dance party. "When do I get to dance", she asked? and I laughed and told her "now!"
Love you Amira.

Re: Amira
Wed, February 6, 2008 - 1:50 PMAmira used to teach the belly dance classes at SheVa Con each year (a Sci-fi convention in Roanoke VA). Last year she couldn't continue so we (Saahira, Kirstin and myself) took over the classes. Amira was still able to come, but wasn't very stable on her feet. Well, Saahira come up with idea for her to teach 'pretty arms and hands'. She was wonderful! She also was able to do a short performance. She still had that unquantifiable 'thing' that makes a good dancer great. She also looked way too cool in her purple wig!!!!
We will definitely miss her.
