Creating Clans

Brother and Sister Elders. In this process we are involved in; creating the 7 New Tribes (Tribal Nations) I have been given the insight that within these Tribes there will also be representative Clans. Based upon a Clan Totem they will be empowered with the energy, wisdom, and virtue of that Totem.

Please refer to this earlier thread in which we discussed our Totem animals. Please add your input; especially if this thread was from a time before you joined the Sacred Circle.

    Re: Creating Clans

Many years ago I was initiated into the Seneca Wolf Clan Teaching Lodge. I was later made a teacher of the Teaching Lodge. Among the many things learned and taught were stories about the clans and how they came into being.

Among many Original Nations there often were eight Clans. Each Clan had a teaching lodge. When a child reached age 7, they would have their first vision quest. What they experienced at that time would, in part, help them determine which teaching lodge to go to first.

Each Clan had a basic lesson. Bear Clan taught about medicine. Hawk about sharing. Heron taught farming. The Wolves were teachers of the teachers and taught of family, and so on. Each child would go to each clans "school" for one year, then the next, until eight years had passed, and the child was 15 and an adult and ready to marry. It was a very sensible and complete way to learn what you needed to know to be a complete and fully functioning member of your Nation. ...Each able to be a good parent, and healer, and farmer/gardener, hunter, decision maker, and so much more.

I have often thought that within our Teaching Lodge it would be nice to have "Lodges" of our Teaching Lodge. Places or groups that "specialised" somewhat more in particular areas of learning/teaching/doing. Among the many hundreds of Teaching Lodge members, I was one of the better organic farmers. I have taught many classes and had many visitors here, to "spread the good word" about Love of Earth.

I have always thought of my farm as the Heron Lodge of The Wolf Clan Teaching Lodge.

Once again thank you Jim. This is most helpful. I was given an understanding of this by my Ancestor and this Council's Patron Talking Smoke. However I could never have explained the knowing I received as eloquently as you have. One thing that I did understand clearly was that we will have 12 clans, within the Tribal Nations. They will be structured very much as you have described.

I have also been given to know that one of these Clans will be the Clan of my totem the Octopus. It will be our "Intelligence" Clan. It will be responsible for seeking out and investigating both opportunities and threats to our Tribal Nations. Aspects of its Teaching Lodge will resemble the Dojo of Ninjitsu. We are going to be challenged whether or not things completely collapse. The current Power Elites will become more and more dedicated to undermining any of us who pursue the new paradigm. In the "lighter" aspects of this Clan's operation it will go forth and find groups and individuals who can become our allies and offer us talents and knowledge we will need for the execution of our vision and mission.

The following is a link to the thread I mentioned before. In this post I described the characteristics of the Octopus.
