As backpacking equipment evolves there is sometimes a gap left in the equipment as we go from old to new. More specifically - When I hiked the PCT I wanted to leave my old tent behind at 3 + pounds and go with a one pound tarp tent. What was lacking was bug protection. As it turns out had I stayed with just the tarp I would have been savaged my mosquitoes in Yosemite and parts of OR.
I have found a GREAT solution - simple and most of all LIGHT!! This netting fills in the gap between the old tent idea and the ultra light but inadequate tarp tent. www.simblissity.net/inner-peace.htm.
And going along with the other recent post in this tribe, the guy that came up with this idea is simply a long-distance backpacker that couldn't find the equipment he wanted and decided he would just make it himself.
I will buy a henry shire tarp tent for my second go-round on the PCT next year. But at a mere 4.5 oz. I'll carry one of these too for those times I want to actually see the stars. I've been waiting years for this solution to come along. I'm totally jazzed.

And congratulations to FK on finding his perfect piece of kit, it's a special moment. The last time I had that feeling was buying my last pair of running shoes and realising that they gripped better than my boots.

Sun, July 15, 2007 - 4:38 AMI'm not sure the guy that made it has settled on a price yet. It's pretty new. I heard about it through the hiker grapevine.
I don't know why that link didn't work. I cut and pasted directly. MIKER, thanks for offering an alternate. -

Sun, July 15, 2007 - 4:48 AMNo Worries FeralKid. Tribe has a bit of a glitch that if you include any punctuation after a link it includes it in the URL. You've got to put spaces or new-lines after a link for them to work. -

Tue, July 17, 2007 - 10:33 PMI love the "bug poncho" aspect of this product, that's key, being able to use it for a quick lunch break.
