I think the way I read it before I joined, and mind you I just joined five minutes ago, is that a museum or play in the park where you could enjoy a vanilla good time AND socialize is all that's required. Doesn't have to be expensive, just leave the toys and play clothes at home in the secret drawer. I bet a renaissance festival or book reading would do as well. It is the "low-brow" not the inexpensive that is objected to. Nice to meet you. I'm not in your area but I'm V.
