Hello dear Burners,

cHiM-cHiM here...I'm currently in transition of moving to the Richmond area for work, and I'm interested in meeting some of you peeps if not all of you!!! I'm coming from the Dallas, Texas area, and I've been part of the DFW (Dallas/Fort Worth) Burners scene for the past 2 years and part of the NTXB crew (North Texas Burners)...the peeps who organize Myschievia every October.

Send me some info, plz. I'll be settled in by mid-August and would like to help out. I don't spin fire, but I'm good in assisting behind-the-scenes. Let me know when the next meet and greet will be and I'll try to make it.

much love,
~C

Anyone up for spinning at The National THIS SATURDAY?

Hey, all!

My name is Crystal; some of ya'll know me, some of ya'll probably don't. I'm a drummer in a fairly new band (Nude Photos of Celebrities) and we're opening a show at The National this Saturday (27th). We play pop-rock/dance music and I thought it would be amazing to have some spinners/hoopers/etc join us on stage for the set. If you have LEDs that would be ideal for lighting purposes. We don't have much in the way of fund-age at the moment, but if you'd like to join us again, hopefully we'll be able to give you some $$ or at least a couple of drinks. We could also plug whatever you're working on while we have a captive audience!

If you're interested, post here or give me a ring: (804) 247-2296
Or send me an email: Crystal.T.Davis@gmail.com

Don't want to spin? Come to the show!

The National
708 E. Broad St.
Saturday, June 27th!
Doors open at 6PM

Nude Photos will open at 6:30PM
Followed by:

Core 87
Seventh Ghost
Steelshot
and
Memory Fade

Tickets: $10 pre-sale (Call me: (804) 247-2296 by Friday)
$13 at the door

Hope to see you there!
WickerMan 2009 updates!

WickerMan 2009

The second annual WickerMan is almost upon us! WickerMan is the mid-Atlantic's burn with an Earth Spirited twist. Personal exploration, inspiration without sanction, possibility without constraint. It is on the Land that we become a community of participants, taking action through Art, Fire and Self Expression. WickerMan is an Altar to the Possible on the Land that Sustains us all.

Within this ethos are the gifts of our participants- Theme Camps, Art, Performance and Volunteering. We have a wild and diverse host of registered Theme Camps and Art this year. Experience everything from Flaming Tetherball (yes, that is verbatim) to Spanish flaming liquor rituals and everything in between. You could find yourself leading an impromptu yoga class or rocking your body in Sound Town, an all night aural cornucopia of DJs from across the East Coast, matched by our largest Art Grant ever for deco lighting and decorations.

We started with $6,000 in the Art Grant budget for Artists to fund a variety of initiatives, from Altars to Performance to Installations. And we still have a bit left to give out for late proposals, so do ask! Our Artists are guaranteeing us a visual feast of beautiful little installations, big in-your-face performances and tokens like free noodles or a new 'do. Be sure that you don't miss fantastic performances from Ohio Burn Unit, returning this year with a roster of crazy fire art.

If Volunteering is your cup of tea, there are many fields where your hands are needed. Consider Ranging to keep WckerMan the litter free event it was last year, or Greeting your fellow burners as they arrive. If swinging a hammer is your thing, then there is a place for you to help build the Man. Set-up Weekend is May 15-17, and that's a head-on collision with what lies behind the curtain. We've ordered the lumber and are preparing our designs for building the WickerMan. Come join the crew to create the biggest effigy east of the Mississippi! Just the normal $10 a night grounds fees apply, day trips are free.

May 21st-25th is the Burn, he flames on Saturday night, early-in and late-out is fine by us. Joe Average registration closes May 9th at $55, Better late than never closes May 19th at $65. And then there is THE GATE.

Visit www.wickermanburn.org for more information and online registrations. Or call the office at 814.784.3080.

Hey guys, I gave Abject a shout out about him coming to town to shoot some photos of us folks here in the South and it looks like it might happen. Since Hoop Path will be here April 4-5, I suggested he come that weekend and on Saturday night we can provide some fire action for him to document for eternity. Hopefully we can convince Ann and Bax for a return visit to the blue house that night. I'm not sure if Abject has experienced the Hoop Path phenomenon but if he hasn't that should be alot of fun!

WickerMan Burn 09!

Open Event Registration for WickerMan 2009
Set-up May 15-17, The Burn May 21-25

WickerMan is an event that brings together Burn Culture, the Art of Giving, Ecological Responsibility, culminating in an event that depends of the Radical Self-Expression of each individual. Based on the tenets of Burning Man of the Black Rock Desert, we actively incorporate their founding principles- Communal Participation, Decommodification, Radical Inclusion and Radical Self-Reliance. In essence, at WickerMan, Radical Self-Expression Meets Radical Earth Spirit.

We convene to celebrate what we as individuals offer to the community, through Art, Gifting and Self-Reliant Participation. Together we commune within the land to build and burn the biggest Man east of the Mississippi River. Individual participation is what makes this event happen, we depend on each other for content and execution. Every contribution, from Volunteering to Art Creation is essential to facilitate this WickerMan. What can you bring to the table?

Art, in its many mysterious ways, is at the core of this event. WickerMan offers over $6000 to fund a variety of Art initiatives, everything from Theme Camps to beautiful Installations, Altars and Performance. Through Action and Creation we transcend the expected and stretch the paradigm of the possible.

WickerMan will again take place at Four Quarters of Artemas, PA, a beautiful ecologically diverse campground. Four Quarters has natural swimming holes in Sideling Creek, rolling meadows and pine forest. Four Quarters also has a great Ride-Share database to help you carpool to the event. Bring yourself and your inspiration to be a part of a community separate from the 'default world'. Check out www.wickermanburn.org for more information and event registration.

Burner Bazaar- March 7th in Takoma Park!

* Original Message from Tequila Sean *

Hello everyone, The 2nd Burner Bazaar will be on MARCH 7TH, THIS TIME
IT WILL START AT 7PM.
The idea behind this is to provide a place for people who make stuff
or have stuff to sell a place to display their wares. Also, to provide
a place for a community garage sale, all the stuff that you have that
while you don't have a use for it someone else might. And, to provide
a place for people to have stuff deconstructed and/or fabricated
and/or to learn how to do it themselves. I want this to be costuming
resource, matching people with needs with people with skills and/or
stuff, a arts and crafts resource, and a green products resource. An
event the encourages the reusing of stuff and things. For the 2nd
bazaar, we are asking for a $10 tabling fee OR 10% OF YOUR TAKE
WHICHEVER IS GREATER if you want to display your wares or offer a
service or a workshop for a fee. If you want to offer a free workshop,
there will be no charge to table. It will be free to general public,
to anyone who simply wants to attend. Ultimately, we would like this
to become a revenue stream to help support the studio and to be
profitable for everyone involved. Another hope and goal that I have
for this event, is that it will help to start the sourcing of
Steampunk clothing and fashion in the DC area. I am especially
interested in this, so depending on how things go we might be able to
help fund something. TO ENCOURAGE THIS WE ARE LOOKING TO HAVE A
STEAMPUNK FASHION SHOW AT THE 3RD BURNER BAZAAR WITH IS SET FOR
SATURDAY, APRIL 11TH. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING IN THE
FASHION SHOW PLEASE LET ME KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO THAT WE CAN
START PUTTING TOGETHER THE SHOW. To give you an idea, some of the
stuff that I will be selling there are: solar christmas lights, glow
poi, staffs, handmade patchwork wrap skirts from The Mayan Connection,
some men's clothing from the Edun collection and some other super
cool solar gadgets. I may also be hitting some of the local thrift
stores for stuff that other people simply must have.AND, THIS TIME WE
WILL HAVE SOME VEGAN CUPCAKES AND RAW FOOD OFFERINGS FROM TWO OF OUR
NEWER LADY BURNERS. Some of the vendors that we had last time included
a professional artist selling prints and offered portraits on site,
another sold professional photographs and others sold costumes and
costuming related stuff and yet another garage style type stuff.
Please let me know if you are interested in tabling or offering a
workshop or service as soon as possible so that we can make sure to
have enough tables. Bring on the sewing machines and surgers and seem
rippers and lets create some funky, fun stuff. We will have a DJ
playing some chill tunes and refreshments will be available. Speaking
of which if you want table/sell any food items, bring them on too, as
I am sure we will work up quite an appetite with all the creative
energy being spent. So, please let me know if you are interested in
tabling as soon as possible because we have a limited number of tables
and I need to know if I need to get more and how many. Also, please
let me know if you are simply interested in attending so that we can
gauge interest in this idea and prepare adequately for the number of
people who want to attend. Event deets: Burner Bazaar Contradiction
Dance Studio 7014 Westmoreland Ave, ste A Takoma Park, MD 20912
office: 240.450.2420 web: _www.contradictiondance.com_ Saturday,
March 7th 7 - 10 pm The 3rd Burner Bazaar will be on Saturday, April
11th and will feature a Steampunk fashion show. Our first full day
bazaar will be on June 16th from 10-6 with the possibility of a few
more in between. Cheers, -Tequila/Sean sgee@dcaccess.net 202-420-9006

Safety guidelines at Gallery5 in Richmond

Cross-posted from the G5 fire tribe:

A few of us have realized we need to tighten up on safety at Gallery5 fire performances. Failure to do so could make some of us liable for the mistakes of others, cause trouble for our beloved Gallery5 staff, and put at risk the acceptance of our performance art in Richmond and the rest of the state. Starting at tonight's First Fridays opening, we will be adhering to safety procedures. We will call a meeting soon for G5 performers to choose our new safety team and reaffirm the ground rules, but here are some common sense guidelines for tonight:

* You must sign the appropriate waiver forms before performing

* Check your tools to make sure they are in working order before you use them

* Check your clothing to make sure it is appropriate near flames and won't get tangled or trip you up

* Exercise fuel safety, many accidents happen at the fuel dump:
- spin out your tools before lighting
- always empty the spin-off bucket back into the fuel bucket
- keep the lid on the fuel bucket

* There are too many safety practices to try to codify them all, so the G5 Fire Safety Team decides what is safe and what is not. If none of them are present, you may not light up. The Safety Team may revoke your privilege to perform at a G5 Fire event for intoxication, inappropriate clothing, lack of confidence in your skill level or judgment, or any other reason at their discretion. These folks are responsible for creating a safe environment for spinning, including:
- marking the performance area with cones, caution tape, or similar
- setting up the fuel dump, insuring proper equipment is present and functioning, and insuring area is well lit
- checking performers to insure they are able to perform safely
- providing safety backup during performances
- keeping audience and pedestrians at a safe distance

We will choose the Safety Team members at our next meeting, but for now myself, Stephen, and Danny are stepping up. If you have experience with fire safety and you crave responsibility, please give me a shout.

Post Thanksgiving Pajama Jam in Takoma Park on Sunday!!

* Original Post by Loup *

So, you'll have to forgive us for partaking in a little turnabout this
holiday weekend. The Pajama Jam was sooo much fun last Sunday a redux is
being demanded.

By popular demand, Dance Afire will be presenting it's next Pajama Jam this
Sunday, 11/30 at Contradiction Dance right after Katie's Hoop class. The Jam
starts at 5 and runs to 8pm and *DJ Syns* has promised to share his chillest
playground set with us that evening. So put on your elastic waistbanded
pajama pants, your favorite fuzzy slippers, and come shake off those post
Turkey doldrums with your favorite play time burners.

Don't forget those pajama's folks. We are asking $5 at the door but if you
come in non-pajama attire you'll be asked to pay for the next three kiddies
with a crisp $20. Questionable costuming to be arbitrated by adhoc & biased
committee.

I am just passing this along....

I have a question that I think you might be able to answer due to your belly dancing circle. Do you know anyone that demonstrates hula hooping? I am giving a pseudo-bridal shower where the guests are going to make hoops. I really wanted to have someone teach a few basic moves and maybe even demo fire hooping! :) I have tried going to the Richmond Hoopers website but I can't get a reply from anyone. I thought you might have a contact. I would appreciate any info you can supply.

We miss seeing you! Hopefully our paths will cross soon,
going to PEX decom Saturday?

Hey guys, I'm looking for someone to drive my car from northern VA to Richmond on Sunday. I know a bunch of you guys are probably heading up to PEX and I need to get my car down to Cari's house. I could possibly even get it up to PEX and have you drive it back from there if that works better for you. If you do take it from here, I can arrange to meet you right off of 95 so you don't have to drive out of your way to get it. If compensation would help, let me know and I can probably come up with a few bucks. Thanks, Brenda

"Rarely outdone, Gallery5 stole the night with an extravagant event titled “The Carnival of 5 Fires.” With five different arenas of performance and wonderful art throughout the former firehouse, there was something for everyone.....Well worth the price of admission, Gallery5’s extravagance paid off with a unique showing of culture no city could hurt to have."
"The State Fair of Virginia wasn’t the only place to see carnies and oddities last weekend. Despite the unrelenting downpour that plagued the First Fridays’ Artwalk on Oct. 6, crowds turned out in droves to take part in the “Carnival of 5 Fires” at Gallery5. But this was no ordinary carnival with fried Oreos and turkey legs, this was the type of carnival that an episode of Tales from the Crypt could’ve been based on."

Saturday’s night event, “Something Wicked” The Dark Carnival Costume Dance Party will include a “ wicked” twist on carnival games, performers, tarot readings, card games, DJ’s, musical and fire performances. Saturday night will also include a costume contest, where audience members will compete for prizes.

Sunday night will be a seated event that will focus on theatrical performances including puppets shows, stand up comedy, improv performance art, narrative skits, and live music. Saturday and Sunday’s events will both begin with circus art classes. These workshops, geared toward older children and adults, will include puppet making, hooping, poi spinning, stilt walking and more.
Burning Man's statement on Transformus 2008

Dear Interested parties and attendees of Transformus:

We write you today to address the recent wave of public comment and
question about the status of Transformus as an official Burning Man
Regional Event. Beginning in March 2008, Burning Man has been in
receipt of multiple comments and complaints regarding certain aspects of
the production of Transformus and as of Monday, June 23, we made an
official statement to the Transformus LLC members regarding this matter.

Transformus is a Burning Man Regional Event that requested and received
its “official” status in 2005, during its first year in existence. As
you may know, any event that is designated as an official Burning Man
Regional Event has a relationship with one or more Burning Man Regional
Contacts, who must agree that the event will uphold and adhere not only
to Burning Man’s Ten Principles
(http://regionals.burningman.com/network_principles.html), but to an
additional set of criteria required by Burning Man designed to assure
that the event is actually legal, permitted, insured, of benefit to the
entire community, and available to all who wish to attend.

Whenever one or more formal complaints are made about an event or a
Regional Contact, Burning Man makes careful effort to address them
directly. There is a process for a formal investigation into the
allegations made in a Regional Contact/Regional Event complaint, one
that includes interviewing and engaging with as many members of the
local community as possible to gather information and make inquiry. (If
you are not familiar with the process to send us feedback about things
happening in your region, please take a look at this page:
http://regionals.burningman.com/regional_feedback.html.)

The member of the Transformus Board of Directors had themselves been
active in asking for support and guidance from Burning Man over the past
several months as the problems with this event came to a head; in fact,
in light of those requests and the comments and complaints we had
received, Burning Man sent its Regional Network Coordinator Bex Workman
to Asheville, NC in April to meet in person with the Transformus Board
of Directors as well as members of the local community to try to gain a
better understanding into the issues the organization was facing and try
to offer some support.

Part of Bex’s purpose on this trip was to obtain information and
background from as many sources as possible, and by sending a staff
member to engage in person we hoped to come to better understand the
ticketing and technology issues with Transformus that had been brought
up for review. This visit was in addition to a number of visits that Bex
had made to the area, including two annual trips to the Transformus
Work/Play weekend, and she and Steven Raspa had both made multiple other
check-in visits with active Transformus community members over the past
3 years. Both individuals had been involved in many emails and phone
conversations and mentoring with various Transformus leadership as welll.

After Bex’s most recent visit, and following months of investigation,
many phone calls, visits and conversations, the Regional Committee has
come to the conclusion that Transformus, as it exists today, has not
been able to operate in full alignment with the principles and criteria
required to be an official Burning Man Regional event in 2008.
Specifically, the investigation has determined that the event has been
unable to uphold the tenets of Civic Responsibility and Transparency.
For example, this was seen in its inability to notify participants of
their invitations in a timely fashion, and to clearly and publicly
illustrate the methodology and fairness of that invitation process – as
of this writing there still seems to be ambiguity and frustration for
some participants, and dissent about the nature of the process, and a
need for a public address of the grievances that have been raised.

One other example is the Board Of Directors’ failure to post timely
and detailed accountings of previous events’ financial reports to the
community, either through the event’s announce list, the regional
announce lists, or through the Transformus website; timely, transparent
accounting is a strong requirement in order to maintain good standing as
a Burning Man Regional Event, but it is especially important when there
have been accusations of inaccuracy in bookkeeping. We have made
recommendations about when and how to share this bookkeeping that have
not been able to be met, although we are aware that the group are still
actively pursuing making this posting.

Among the complaints that were shared with Burning Man, some of the
most prominent were related to incomplete bookkeeping and imprecise
nature of the invitation process. As we understand it, efforts are
underway to remedy this matter, but in the strictest sense, the prior
Transformus events have failed to follow the guidelines outlined by
Burning Man and cannot truly be said to have upheld those standards.

It was a very difficult decision for us to move to suspend Transformus’
official status; however, the value in having and engaging in the
Burning Man Regional Network lies in the ability to truly identify that
certain standards and benchmarks of the Burning Man community are in
place for any event, and if they cannot be met or verified readily by
the casual observer or participant, even by the best efforts of the
persons involved, it is our duty to encourage the production team to act
to bring things back into alignment, as well as to inform the public
about our official position on the event.

In this case, although we do not believe any individual engaged in
wrongdoing, we do believe that the business entity behind Transformus is
clearly faced with a need to stop and reflect, as they have done, and in
the meantime, the current state of affairs has left little choice but to
act to address the complaints and agree that Transformus organization as
it stands is not in a position to be identified officially as a Regional
Event in 2008.

However, although Burning Man has announced that Transformus 2008 will
not qualify for official Regional Event status, we do remain actively
engaged in an effort to encourage and support the Transformus board and
the many people who produce the event, and to assist them in moving
through this period as they reflect on their leadership and determine
the common goal for its future. Although there are transitions and
challenges afoot, we want to make it clear that we believe that there is
ample enthusiasm and dedication to help rally the community to resolve
these issues together and move beyond this conflict; we are confident
that you can and will create an event that your region can be proud of,
and that leadership will guide you through and hold the center, whatever
that turns out to be.

Indeed, the Burning Man Project has every intention of continuing to
offer its support to you, and it is our hope that Transformus will seek
and regain its official Regional Event status in the future. We do still
intend to send several members of our staff to support Transformus this
year; both Bex Workman and Wally Bomgaars aka:Odwally (DMV, Rangers)
will still be sent out to offer their assistance, expertise, and sweat
to help produce Transformus, just as had been previously planned; Ranger
Splinter is also still planning to conduct a Ranger Training at the event.

We also remain eager to help to connect all interested parties with any
others in the Burning Man Regional Network who might offer their insight
and assistance through their similar experiences, whoever they may be.
We are in frequent communication with the Burning Man regional contacts
in the area who are involved and concerned about this event. Regional
Contacts are individuals who have satisfied a set of established
leadership criteria to be a contact point in a particular area, and
we’re depending on them to help translate Burning Man's expectations to
the communities they represent and to let us know what other support we
might provide. Truly, although we know the ultimate solutions are up to
the community, we still want to be as supportive as possible if we can.

However, we know that the biggest component in Transformus (the event)
solving its current spate of issues is Transformus -- the community --
deciding together to figure out how to solve them. We’ve never seen it
as our place to tell another event what to do, even those within our
“Network” – we offer what we offer by way of affiliation or relationship
and shared principles, not by ownership or dictation. Our desire to help
is not about us illustrating what “we” think “you” should do – it’s

about us sharing what our experiences have been with you, introducing
you and connecting you to others with similar experiences, and offering
whatever we do know about building community and about producing events.

In this case that experience tells us that when things go off course
and personal actions are in doubt, it helps for everyone to reflect on
their shared values, sometimes in a public process, and this can help
you to see what you can do to get back to them, together.
And yes, we have the Ten Principles, and perhaps those are a place to
start a discussion, but we trust that there are many viewpoints and sets
of ideals among those who would consider themselves participants at
Transformus. Thus, we won’t deign to try to ascribe those values to
everyone who attends that event, but we do offer them as a place to
start, especially since we’ve found them useful so often ourselves.

Burning Man isn't trying to tell Transformus that we have the solution
for them, although we believe that we have tried to offer some input and
possible solutions for consideration. Ours is not to direct, dictate,
nor even to suggest what you should do in your local groups from all the
way over here in San Francisco, and no matter how many staff members we
send to visit, we only know what you and your community are telling us,
but ultimately the solutions are up to you. Either way, we’re certain
you’ll still come together and make Transformus great this year, and we
are eager to see what the future will bring.

In closing, I’d like to again emphasize that this decision was based on
careful investigation of a mass of shifting facts and information, and
was only designed to try to help the Transformus Board Of Directors and
all of you move towards building a strong community and producing an
event supporting the values of that community. We do not believe anyone
should pull out of their participation or stop working on or planning to
attend Transformus 2008 solely because of this decision on the behalf of
the Regional Network’s official event requirements. Indeed, the primary
purpose in building the Regional Network has been to facilitate a
connection amongst all of us, and we are in no way trying to negate the
importance of Transformus and its participants or its organizers as
members of the Burning Man community.

As such, we hope that it is understood by all that the Burning Man
Project will remain available to your community for questions, comments,
or support as we can offer it (remember this is a particularly busy time
for our production staff as we near the creation of Black Rock City),
and that we do believe that Transformus will find its way to the future
Self reflection and self improvement are values that can never been
underestimated in helping manifest change.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us
directly via: regionals@burningman.com

Sincerely,
Transformus Chill Spin Zone and Skillz Exchange

I am happy to announce that the Chill Spin Skillz Exchange will be returning to Transformus 08!

The Chill Spin Zone is a low-key, safe place for spinners and dancers of any skill level. It is both a learning and a teaching environment as well as a non-competitive play space. There will be music, workshops, classes and freeform fun throughout the weekend. Look for us in the Elyssium Fields.

The Chill Spin Zone and Skillz Exchange is brought to you by Philosopher's Stone, Bubble Camp, Ripe and Juicy and many wonderful and giving teachers from all over Mysteria. It is a unique opportunity to teach, learn, connect and share in a cooperative and safe space from a variety of amazing teachers and performers. It is also a great opportunity to make friends and build community. And the first step to organizing it is a Call For Teachers!!!

Everyone has something to teach. Everyone has something to learn.

What do you have to share? Mysteria needs you!

Please let us know what you'd be interested in sharing. If there is a time or day that's better for you, let us know that too. Once we get everyone's feedback, we will make a schedule of workshops that will be posted online as well as in the Chill Spin Zone. TITS will also be announcing upcoming workshops throughout Mysteria.

Here is a list of the workshops that were offered last year. Let's use this as a framework to build upon. Feel free to share something new and different or sign on to teach one of these amazing skills:
- Staff
- Double Staff
- Fire Fans
- Hooping
- Tribal Dance
- Poi
- Fire Eating

Please indicate what skill level you are interested in teaching (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) and sign up even if someone else has already volunteered. More is better! If there is something unique about the workshop you want to teach, give us a little information about that also.

So what do you have to share?

Transformus No Longer A Regional Burn!!!!

Dear Mysterians,

It is with great sadness and discomfort that I announce Transformus is no longer an official Burning Man Regional Event. The Transformus Board of Directors received an e-mail from Andi Grace of Burning Man last night stating that there had been complaints made by the community. The decision to change Transformus' s status as an official burn was based on the BOD's lack of Civic Responsibility and Transparency. An official statement will be released from Burning Man soon entailing all of the details in depth and their reasoning. It will also lay out the process necessary to regain or retain our status as a sanctioned Regional Burn.

The Transformus BOD would like to let everyone know that at no point in time did we mean for any of this to happen. We did our best to make sense of the madness that has occurred this year leading up to Transformus 2008. We apologize to the community for our break down in communication and our botched ticketing system. We are just a group of normal people, who tried to the best of our abilities to bring you a successful event. We are only human and the lack of Civic Responsibility and Transparency was never, at any point in time, meaningfully sought out.

As many of you know, several members of the Transformus BOD have resigned. We thank them for their time, energy and devotion to this event. However, moving forward, there will be a lot of changes that will take place after Transformus 2008, and we are looking to this community to foster and implement those changes. The BOD opens the gates to the community as to where the future lies in running this event after Transformus 2008. For those of you who have wanted answers,decisions, and change, I ask you to step up to the challenge of making Transformus the way the community wants it to evolve. There are still just a few BOD members, including myself, that will help facilitate the means to making the situation at hand better after the event. Until that day and time, I respectfully and earnestly ask all of you to bring positivity and not negativity to our community.

Finally, for all of those in the community who wanted action and change, here is your opportunity to do something. The event is less than a month out ,and we can come out of the darkness and produce a great event that is fun, meaningful, transformative. ..not just a party in the woods. To all of you who are still coming and making it to Transformus 2008, we want to personally thank you for believing in the magical place known as Mysteria. Despite all the drama, anger, and confusion, we will rise to make Transformus 2008, the best one to date.

Positively Yours,

DTR

Fire on the River 07/12

Richmond River Races will be held July 12, 2008 on the James River. There will be boat races and all sorts of pandemonium, all benefiting the cause of keeping our river clean and accessible to all. I have been asked to coordinate the fire performance to end all fire performances... at 9pm that evening, we will have 15-20 fire artists begin a performance in the middle of the river! We will be spread out on several platforms or barges being pulled by boats at a steady parade pace from 9-9:45. We will be billed as Richmond Fire Tribe. I will post the event flier when it is available.

Here are some details:

~ Money: We will probably not have budget to compensate performers, but travel expenses (for out-of-towners) will be provided.

~ Fire artists: We can accommodate a lot of fire folks, experienced performers who are interested please contact myself or Cari or HyperFire. We want all the toys represented as much as possible, AND it would be awesome to have a fire breather on each platform.

~ Safeties: Every performer will double as a safety, but if you're a trained fire safety who won't be performing and you want to volunteer... well, you're just the bee's knees. We love you.

~ Drummers and chanters and other tribal musicians: we need you too! Our theme is tribal, so bring it on!
I am the "business manager" for a group of burners in Va Beach. We have heard there are phenomenal things going on in the Burner community there and that there are monthly burns. Where and when are they? We would like to organize a 'field trip'.

Thanks,
Shakra's Transfusion Dance and Choreography Workshop!

Come sweat and stomp with Shakra! This high energy and cardiovascular
workshop will give you a crash course to Transfusion Dance. We’ll be
focusing on the Afro-Industrial fusion side of Shakra’s style, which is
heavily influenced by African dance, but incorporates other high energy
movements from donor styles such as Bhangera, Hip Hop, Modern, and
Bellydance. This side of Transfusion Dance will focus on bringing power
and extension into your movements and embrace the need for speed when
working with powerful and fast beats.

Past dance knowledge will help, but is not necessary."

Double Fan Fusion With Bastet (Save the Date!)

Hello all,
The fabulous ladies of To The Earth are hosting me for a double fan workshop Sunday, July 20, 2008, Richmond Va . As part of the workshop, I am offering a pre-order for fans. Due to my insanely busy schedule this summer, I can only hold pre-orders until May 18th, though I will order extras (don't worry!). The instructions are posted below and on my tribe: Bastet Fusion Fan Dancing. Just in case you're wondering what my double fan technique looks like, here's a video....enjoy! www.youtube.com/watch

For your dancing delight, I've found many options for you to choose from to order through me:

$20/pair (Right Handed ONLY)
-----Black-Staved Fans: tribes.tribe.net/bastet/ph...14be6d22e1
-----Dragon and/or Phoenix Fans: tribes.tribe.net/bastet/ph...075cc8857f
$20/pair (Left and Right Handed Fans)
----Fade Fans: tribes.tribe.net/bastet/ph...db52950fe9
$15/pair (Right Hand ONLY)
----Red or Black Dance Fans: tribes.tribe.net/bastet/ph...c3de1269ca
$12/pair (Left and Right Handed Fans)
----Green Peacock: tribes.tribe.net/bastet/ph...09af94ee34
----Blue Peacock: tribes.tribe.net/bastet/ph...379ab53f3b
----Red Dance Fans: tribes.tribe.net/bastet/ph...3f9c748564

*I offer these options because I know I can save you money on them by buying (and shipping) in bulk and either own or have used all of these and found them to be acceptable or good for the price. However, my current favorite fans (and the ones you see in many of my pictures) are from waydragon.stores.yahoo.net/soli...html. I just called them, and they only have orange and green in stock right now. Unfortunately, I cannot save you any money by buying in bulk (at least, through my estimation). So, if you're interested, buy directly from them! There are also many vendors on ebay (though I think you'll pay about the same or more with shipping).

How to Order: Please send a paypal payment for the total to eve6570@hotmail.com with the name of the fan and color preference. I will be taking pre-orders until May 18th to guarantee color/style preferences. I will order extras of fans I feel will sell at the workshops. ONLY order fans if you are attending Pharos Live! workshops as you will receive them at the workshops. If fewer than 5 orders are made from any one vendor (I am ordering from several companies), I reserve the right to cancel those orders--you will be notified if this happens and your money refunded or used as a credit towards another pair of fans.

**If you cannot afford a set of fans and are attending my workshop, I will have a limited number of fans available to borrow. Please pm or e-mail me at bastetfusion@gmail.com to reserve a pair to borrow.

***If you're still reading at this point....here's my opinion on some of these fans: The loudest fans are the "Black-Staved Fans" and the "Dragon and/or Phoenix Fans", the easiest to handle are the ones from waydragon.com (the ones you'd have to order), but any of the left and right handed fans have a wonderful ease of use, the most graceful ones are probably these: tribes.tribe.net/bastet/ph...f9c748564, but the fade fans look the best on stage. If you're buying your own, please don't buy the metal martial arts fans. I have some. They are heavy, beautiful, and dangerous. If you fling them across the room by accident, you could seriously hurt someone. Also, they heavy enough that you could injure your wrist doing some of the movements that will be taught. Also, if you own fan veils, please don't use them for this workshop. Many of the movements you will learn MUST be modified in order to use fan veils. The movements and combos you will learn really focus on using the fan as a fan. Fan veils are, in my opinion, very different props.

Whew!

Bastet

Artomatic -- Friday, May 9th and 16th and June 6th from 9-11PM
http://www.artomatic.org/user/507

Flights of Fire will be performing at Artomatic this Friday for opening night. If you are interesting in
joining us and you have insurance and are comfortable in front of a crowd, send me message. (We will need fire safeties too.) Artomatic is an non-jurored, inclusive event and that is how I would like this show to be for the fire community too. I've been asked if you have to be a part of the Flights
of Fire Burning Man Conclave to participate in the Artomatic, and the answer is no (but you are welcome to talk to me about joining us for that too if you are heading to the playa this year). For Artomatic, we are going to do a combination of solo and group performances, complete with costume changes if you like. I'm giving my performers from the Palace a chance to strut their stuff in
front of a different type of audience. We plan to have a lot of high energy, high style, FUN with Fire!!

Flights of Fire will also be returning to the MDA camp in Leonardstown, MD for two gift performances in June. They are both on Monday nights (June16th and 23rd), but the first week we are only going to put on a show at 8:30PM. The second week we plan to be there for an afternoon poi workshop with the kids, join them for dinner, and put on a show at dark. If you haven't had a chance to join us for this event before, it is an amazing experience and a chance to give something special back to the community.
http://www.heartsongsgala.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4&Itemid=5

Let me know if you are interested in joining us for any of these events.
Thanks, Silver Raven

Really where's the love at these days? We need a non-group affiliated spin play time again, I'm thinking Sunday afternoons at the park. Whose down and what is your idea of a good time/place to do this?

Hey, fiery folks,

G5/RVA 3rd Bday Blowout Bashola...First Friday-April 4th!!!!!

Hello my lovelies! Guess what?!
G5 and RVA is turning 3 years old! That means P-A-R-T-Y! The past couple of years we have had the bday around April 15th (we were born April 15th 2005--some of you were there). This year we are making it the First Friday event----why not?

Upstairs Reinhold and Conway will be DJing all night long. We will have a GIANT (36 ft long-8 ft high) mural on the left side as well as other artwork on the walls. The mural will be the G5 VS. RVA mural. Three artists have been picked to represent the G5 side and three have been picked for the RVA side. It's going to be a fun little competition. Downstairs we will have Fight the Big Bull providing big band jazz tunes, Vermillion Lies (wacky sister cabaret circus music), Prabir and the Substitutes making people dance, and another band we are waiting to confirm (they will be more punk rock-ish). After the bands we will have the Soulpower DJs. These guys spin old funk/soul so get ready to dance like your ass is on fire (which I'm sure some of your asses have been on fire before). This year we have official sponsors as well. Richbrau has donated 8 kegs, Level Vodka and Sailor Jerry Rum are donating mucho bottles of liquor (that's right, our first party with liquor). We appreciate it all and hopefully it will help raise some money to pay the bills and keep the firehouse alive.
SOOOOOO...we need you guys to be out in force and up the ante as we are expecting BIG crowds (think Carnival of 5 Fires).
Basically get ready for a long, crazy night!

Wickerman Burning - a new burn in south central PA

Hi!
I wanted to let everyone know about a new burn, and I am part of the planning team for it, so my opinion is biased!

The burn is "Wicker Man," to be held Thursday through Monday, Memorial Day weekend; and we have a setup weekend, the weekend before. We are trying to lay the groundwork that will grow into a full-on burn, with an amazing site, roads for art cars, a $4,000 art grant budget and plans for a stupendous effigy.

We will be using Four Quarters as our site, which has the rep as one of the most edgy and progressive non-profit camps on the east coast. They have given us their full support for Wicker Man. Four Quarters has a piped water system, hot showers, flush toilets and of course port-a-potties. Buried power lines for their bio-fueled camp generator, a covered stage and three swimming holes. Lots of camping under tall trees and out in the sun too. And 2 miles of gravelled roads. Four Quarters is located 100 miles west of DC and Baltimore, just off I-68.

We want to develop a burn that is art focused and will support big art. And one that has a vision of the future of burns that is sustainable, ecologically responsible and leaves behind a small foot print. Thus "Wicker Man;" the old celebration of the Green Man and Green energy. We already have over 20 theme camps and art projects registered, and we are just beginning our announcements. We plan to have three "Theme Towns." "Sound Town," where we can run sound all night long, like the Gaian MInd psytrance festival held at Four Quarters. "Sin City" down along the river, a cure for what ever ails you. And "Center Circle," a place for nature and spirit; held inside the amazing stone circle at Four Quarters. (Yes, there is a circle of standing stones and they are BIG!)

And then there is the Man. Planned at 35 feet high our man stands on a round Temple to the Spirit of Fire, a big enough room that you can enter and place your own art and offerings to the burn. The roof of the temple is a deck upon which stands the Man, and people can stand too.. His belly is the Upper Temple, with room for just one person at a time. Each of his arms will hold a flaming fire pot, and we hope, will move as he burns. This is a huge project and we are looking to get as many people involved in his construction as possible. Ground breaking for the Man is Friday, May 9th, and then the next two weekends until he burns.

I could go on and on, but our web site is up, with the first design drawings for the Man, pictures of art grant projects and theme camps. We have a list serve / forum too. So visit the web site at wickermanburning.org for much more info.

"Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust,
Wicker Man Burning, In Fire We Trust."

performance opportunities - most likely without monetary compensation (sorry)

Hey guys, Flights of Fire will be back at Artomatic ( www.artomatic.org ) again this May and June. So far we are committed to May 9th (opening night) and Friday, May 16th. We will be picking up other weekend nights in June too. Once again I would like to open this opportunity to all insured performers (the new insurance year starts in May - http://www.specialtyinsuranceagency.com/performer-insurance.html ). We may have sections of choreography some nights, but there will be plenty of time for everyone to join in the fun. I will also need fire safeties and help with sound and logistics. I'll be going to check out the space when I go select a space for my paintings on April 12th. I am also looking for someone to come work a volunteer shift with me at Artomatic on Wednesday, May 14th from 5-10PM. Whiskey tells me there are also opportunities for anyone who would like to teach poi or hooping workshops.

If you haven't had a chance to do this event before, it is amazing and a chance to give something special back to the community. You do not need to have insurance or be a fire performer to share this wonderful experience with us.

Let me know if you are interested in joining us for any of these events.
Thanks,
Silver Raven

Invites/Tickets
Requesting Transformus Invites

* We are able to invite 1,500 people to the event this year. Each invite will cost $55. Children age 5 and under enter free with parent or legal guardian.
* In order to attend the event, you (or someone on your behalf) must complete a request form starting Friday, Feb. 29 at noon (Eastern). You will have until the end of the day on Sunday, March 9, to complete the form. There is no advantage in completing your form before others, as long as everyone meets the March 9 deadline.
* At that time, the first 1,350 invites will be determined from all the requests that have been submitted. The remaining invites will be determined later to make sure we have covered the critical infrastructure roles.
* We will inform you as soon as we have completed the initial process, no later than March 16. If we were able to invite you, you will have until noon on April 9 to pay via PayPal.
* Just like the first two years, we are going to issue electronic instead of paper tickets. You will receive a souvenir paper ticket when you arrive, but in order to gain admittance each person is asked to present his or her own personal secret code that we will issue.
* We have a "frequently asked questions" section on the web site. Please see the Read more... link below.

What you should do between now and the end of Sunday, March 9 (Eastern time)

* Complete the request form at http://www.transformus.com/invites/request . (Please use a PC or Mac web browser since we have tested several of those.) You may have to create an account and/or login to do so. Make sure you press the Submit button and that you see the following message below the form to be sure that it was submitted: "Your invite request form has been successfully submitted."
* Contact web@transformus.comThis e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it if you have any technical issues.
* Stay tuned for further information via e-mail announcements and on the web site.

"Part art project, part activist campaign, 'I Dream of a Richmond …' brings artists and Richmonders together to express their hopes and dreams for Richmond." - Richmond.com

About the Event:
This event was conceived in light of the fact that many students were still out of town during First Friday. Further details will be announced in the coming week. Oh, and it's still free. :)

Gallery5's "I Dream of a Richmond..." 4th Friday Reception will include:
- Live performances by Jason Horst, from "Jason Horst and the best of the worst".
- Opportunities to participate in the project (including a photo booth and video station)
- Information about community-oriented programs and socially conscious organizations
- Refreshments
...and again, it's FREE

About the Project:

*Read the Richmond.com article*
http://www.richmond.com/museums-galleries/23287

Richmond, like many cities across the United States, struggles with a growing number of native dilemmas. However, the most daunting issue we endure as a populace involves a lack of communication. In an effort to aid civic dialog, Gallery5 and T.O.W.A.R. (There Once Was A Rebellion) join forces in a socially driven endeavor known as “I Dream of a Richmond…” This campaign will act as a public platform that cultivates local concerns. It will also serve as a regional forum that indiscriminately allows people to express their needs and aspirations regarding the community.

In the spirit of autonomy, it is the intent of “I Dream of a Richmond…” to provide a populist perspective that brings to light a sense of universal understanding. It is the hope of both organizations involved that such a project will instigate change and showcase various thoughts in a way that is not ostracizing but empowering.

The opening reception will include opportunities to participate in the project and it will be tabled by local grassroots organizations who share goals of improving our city and the people in it.

4th Friday Reception:
7pm-11pm
Exhibition runs Jan 4th - Jan 25th
@ Gallery5
200 W. Marshall St.
Richmond, VA 23220

HOOP PATH WORKSHOP WITH BAXTER IN RVA!!!!!!

OK HOoP LOvers!!!! MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND GRAB YOUR HOoPS!!!

We are thrilled to announce that Baxter and Ann from The Hoop Path are coming to Richmond to amaze and enlighten us with a 3 hour Hoop Workshop!

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
This workshop will introduce you to the physical challenge and meditative bliss of hoopdance: the energetic flow art of dancing with the sacred circle, the hoop. Hooping can be an exercise, a dance, a meditation. On the Hoop Path, we approach our hoop Practice with shared intentions not only to improve our hooping skill, but also to develop the skills to go Within, as we believe that Inner and Outer strength are inextricably and intimately intertwined. The introductory workshop will be divided into two sections, both taught by master teacher and Hoop Path founder Jonathan Baxter. Together we will focus on building core hooping skills, introducing students to Hoop Path terms such as pe*A*ce, Ritmo, One Tree/Two Tree Hooping, and Two Birds. Depending on where we find our rhythm as a group, we may well get into some of the more physically challenging techniques like Reversing, Breaking, Paddling, Lifts, and Angle Hooping.

DATE: February 9th

TIME: 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

LOCATION: Gallery5

200 W. Marshall St.
Richmond, Virginia 23220
gallery5@gallery5arts.org

COST: $40

Space is limited and we have a feeling this one is going to sell out quickly!

* * * * * *
More information to come about enrollment but if you would like to secure your space right away, contact The Hoop Path at thehooppath@gmail.com.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aren't familiar with The Hoop Path yet? Check out this video of Baxter (copy and paste link into browser) and just look for many of the Hoop Path ninja hooping skills on YouTube:
www.hoopthemovie.com/video/t..._med.htm
About The Hoop Path:
Jonathan Baxter picked up a hoop for the first time six years ago, thinking it would help him rehabilitate some injured shoulder muscles. He never dreamed it would develop into a daily meditation that totally transformed him, inside and out. Over the years he has logged in thousands and thousands of hooping hours--what we on the Hoop Path call "flight time." Baxter's commitment to his Practice has revealed to him many of the profound subtleties to be found this ecstatic movement. This extensive and direct involvement with "hoopgnosis," coupled with Baxter's unique gifts as a storyteller and guide, make him an extraordinary teacher.
**NOTE: This workshop will be a BYOH (bring your own hoop) event. However, if you are new to hooping and don't have a hoop, no worries..... FireFlyGirl will bring a few extras.
HUGE THANKS TO GALLERY 5 FOR LETTING US HOST THIS WORKSHOP IN YOUR BEAUTIFUL SPACE ------- WE LOVE YOU!!!!!!
first friday lack of people, lack of sound sources.
seems like there is going to be a big lack of our core group. so we need more spinners, and we need people with SOUNDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD SOURCE, BATTERY RADIO, OR SOMETHING FOR MUUSSSIIICCCC
aka, the people that are ALWAYS THEREEEEEEEEEEEEE. chris, danny, daniel, all can't make it, between them they provide the fuel buckets and sound sources (most of the time) it will also suck because those are the guys that are also out there the whole time with me. and of course conway who didn't make it last time (ARE YOU COMING, DO YOU HAVE SOUND)
so we can't rely on them. I can bring fuel bucket, spin out bucket , and a doovey, but i don't have a sound source. i also don't have time to contact the hand drummers and have them bail us out on this one.
who knows maybe it will be like summer busking cary street homeless with erich playing drums to my staff spinning alone on the street making 7 dollars and getting tips from cops :)
::shakes his booty and freestyles to no sound::
First National Hooper's Conference!!!
Hoop Convergence ~ Friday April 11 - Wednesday April 16, 2008
Please join us for the very first national (hopefully International!) Hooper’s Conference -- The Hoop Convergence.
The Hoop Convergence is the bringing together of a wide variety of hoopers from all over the world to create a synergistic learning environment where we will address all aspects of hooping. There will be panel discussions and workshops with a variety of amazing teachers and hoopers from all over the United States.
The Convergence will be held in beautiful the Hooper Haven of Carrboro, NC. Everything in this wonderful town is in walking distance and already many local hoopers are opening their homes or offering camping on their property to visiting hoopers from all over the country. Make plans to join us now.
To learn more, volunteer, make suggestions or arrange for a place to stay, please join the tribe Hoop Convergence at: http://tribes.tribe.net/hoopconvergence
Here are some of the amazing workshops and activities that are confirmed as of right now:
HOOP SKILLS WORKSHOPS
Currently, Spiral, Revolva, Caroleeena and Jewels are all confirmed to teach. These workshops will teach a variety of hooping techniques, including hand work, footwork, bodywork and dance, as well as hooping specialties, such as street performance and twin hooping. There will be workshops appropriate to all skill levels and other classes will be added to the curriculum as they are confirmed. Workshop details are forthcoming.
YOGA, INJURY PREVENTION & HEALING
We will host an injury prevention discussion panel made up of yogis, hoopers, massage therapists and other body/mind workers and healers. Hopefully we will be able to offer a HoopYoga workshop as well.
COSTUME DESIGN and THEATER MAKE-UP WORKSHOPS
In addition to learning costume design and theater make-up, the Convergence will also include a trade circle, a costume swap, sewing and non-sewing methods for making/decorating costumes, pattern shares, and a discussion where we will share ideas about themes, hoopable clothing and info for creating fire safe costumes . If you stay for the entire week, there will be excursions to some kick ass thrift stores too! (Then, after the Convergence, you can try out your new threads at Shakori Hills the following weekend!)
COMMUNITY, SERVICE PROJECTS and WORLD HOOP DAY
There will also be a discussion panel on community building, event planning, service projects and World Hoop Day. Hoopin' Annie O, creator of World Hoop Day, Jewels, who created Hoops for Haiti, and Caroleeena, who started the Henrietta Jensen Outreach and Education Project in Jamaica are all confirmed and will all be available to help you envision and manifest your world hoop day events or community outreach projects. (Hopefully Xta will be able to make it also!)
FIRE
On Saturday night, we will have a drum circle and fire ceremony with fire dancing. If you haven't fire hooped before, this could be your moment! There will also be discussions on Fire Philosophy & Ritual, Safety, Tool Repair, Craft and Professionalism. (There may also be a workshop highlighting a variety of different fire hoops and build techniques. We may not have time amidst everything else to build our own fire hoops, but maybe. If not, I'm sure you can order one from a local crafter to be customized for you and ready for your arrival to NC or to be shipped to you when you return home.)
JAM ~ DANCE PARTY
Sunday night, we will have a funky, dressy, jamming hoop hop set. There will also be a pre-party, house-party for dressing and making up!
OTHER THINGS we hope to include are:
Performances by and for each other
Publicity and Marketing
Business Management and Taxes for Professionals
Teaching Techniques
Hooping with kids
Sharing Poetry and Stories
Hoop Philosophy and Spirituality
Finally, if we can manage it, and if we have enough people at Shakori Hills, I think it would be fun to try to choreograph and premier the world’s largest choreographed hoop dance! I know they would let us do it there. We just have to see if we can make it happen!
We have lots of other ideas too – Circus hooping, Native American Hoop Dance, Rhythmic Gymanastics, Hoop Yoga, integrating specific types of dance into hooping, and more – but those things may have to wait until next year … unless you know someone willing and/or able to teach! If you have an idea for a workshop, please join the Hoop Convergence Tribe and share it with us! http://tribes.tribe.net/hoopconvergence
If you would like to teach or lead a discussion panel, please post that on the Hoop Convergence tribe too or feel free to PM a description to Jewels at hoopflow@gmail.com. We will accommodate what we can given space availability and group sizes. Teaching or leading a panel will enable you to attend other workshops for free. Depending on our turnout, you will hopefully also receive compensation for your efforts. (We are still working out the estimated costs for this event but we are working to keep them reasonable. Several teachers are volunteering altogether.)
Prices and other details will follow soon. New items are being added everyday!
If you can stay through the week, festivities, workshops, discussion panels and field trips will be offered Friday through Wednesday. Then, on Thursday, we'll head over to Silk Hope for a great, family-friendly, hooper-rich, inexpensive local music festival with incredibly sweet vibes through the following Sunday!
If you can't stay through the week and for the music festival, there will be plenty of hoopy goodness happening during the weekend from Fri - Sun/Mon. Do try to stay Sunday night for a big jam and costuming pre-party though!
For more information about the Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival of Peace and Dance (April 17 - 20, 2008), go to: www.shakorihills.org
Again, if you are willing and able to participate in any way, please do! Your input and expertise are essential. So please join the Hoop Convergence tribe today. We hoopfully hope to hoop with you soon!
I am pleased to announce the arrival of the Party Liberation Podcast. It's the official podcast of the Party Liberation Front deejays. The opening episode happens to be the first mix of mine that I've ever posted on the internet. Hope you all enjoy. We should have new additions in the next month or so from Dylan Mott and the badass tagteam duo Dangerous Beatdown (they're not actually violent, I swear). Much thanks, hope you enjoy!
OUR ERICA - Like Turning 30 Wasn't Enough
WOW ! What some folks won't do for a little attention!!!!
(oh, control the snickers...and I saw your eyes roll)
Our Miss Erica, Goddess of the Fans, and Little Mamma to more than just Lotus, is about to go through some pretty challenging times in the very near future.
She's too damn stubborn to ask for help so I've taken it upon myself to reach out to our little RVA community and let you know the deal, if you haven't already heard...
She undergoes back surgery, or a microdisectomy on 10/22. They are going to remove part of the disk that is hitting the nerves that are causing loads of pain and numbness in her left leg. The surgery is 10/22 and should be out patient. She has to be able to walk, (not belly dance), before they can send her home. The first 2 weeks she can’t drive. Driving Miss Erica...now that should be fun....good luck with that, Kevin. After two weeks, she's evaluated and should be able to return to work a few days a week, but may need a driver. (Yessa Miss Erica). Sadly, she won’t be able to pick up Lotus for at least 4 weeks. Dancing is out of the question for some time...but I bet she breaks all those rules early. She's hoping to be back to "normal", whatever that is, by Christmas. She'll have lots of therapy to deal with, which will include walking....so I'm sure walking partners would be a nice offer The really good news is, the leg pain that has been driving her batty for a year, should be much better just days after the surgery.
WHY, am I telling you all her Bizz-ness? Because we all know Kevin is the best little wife anyone could ever wish for, but he's gonna need a hand from time to time. Please keep the Stotler family in mind and heart when it comes to maybe making an extra dinner...or dropping a note, or making a call to bug the crap outta of Erica, or offering to run an errand for Kevin. Erica's Mom and sister will be there to help out too, so I'm sure lots will be taken care of house wise.
I'm sending her all the strength and healthy healing I can muster, and I'm sure many of you will do the same.
To ask questions, or get address info or anything like that contact either, Kevin, or myself. I'm sure there's plenty of others that can supply info...but that's all I can offer up at the moment.
We love you Erica!!!!!.....You'll be dancin' around in no time!
