From 2000 to 2005 I was a volunteer at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival (VFMF). Volunteers are the life blood of the festival and each person selects or is assigned to a committee that is assigned a function. As of 2001 I was in the Lantern Committee.
The VFMF describes the committee as such:
We need committed, fun-loving, and creative people who have time both before and during the Festival to dedicate to the maintenance and creation of our lantern collection. Knowledge of lantern making not necessary! If you enjoy playing with tissue paper and glue and don't mind missing the last few sets each night to help the patrons off the site by lighting their way with our lanterns, this committee may be for you! Committee starts meeting in late May.
Given the early start of volunteering, and provided that I live in a different city, I have been unable to participate in the last two years. Truly unfortunate as this is an amazing group of people. The lantern volunteers' hard work should be seen by many so I have scanned and posted my photographs on flickr.

To my brothers and sisters of tissue paper and glue I hope to join you next year. It has been far too long. With love, Linda.
