For those of you who did his workshop last time, come back for more! For those of you who wanted to but couldn't, this is your chance! Anyone who doesn't know who Baxter is, check out hooppath.com and 'jbaxter' on YouTube.
His style of hooping, and the wonderful storytelling he uses in his teaching, have made Baxter and the Hoop Path stand out in the hooping community. Flow, grace, power, speed.. overall, a stunning amount of control and a deeper connection with the hoop itself... THIS is what you will take away from a workshop!
So, the question is, WHEN would you like the workshop to be offered? I believe he normally aims for 3 hour blocks, two days in a row for the two levels.
Please answer in this format, so I can hopefully find a time that wil work for as many people as possible:
***
I am interested in attending a workshop
Monday - 4-10pm
Tuesday - 7-10pm
Wednesday - not available
Thursday - 4-7pm
Friday - anytime
Saturday - anytime
Sunday - anytime before 4pm
I am not available July 16-18.
If a workshop is offered during these times, I (WILL be there/ probably will attend/ might attend/ want to attend but may need a scholarship)
****
To be clear, all of those times and away-dates are just things that I made up. Please reply with YOUR available time range, any dates that you're unavailable, and the level of interest you have in attending!
I've been to three of Baxter's workshops so far, and I will be attending these ones too... and as much hooping as I do, and teach, I still come away with something new to work on every time!
Come play!

That's the thread from his last visit, and I see that I was wrong, and he aims for 3.5 hours, not 3, so please try to include blocks of time in your availability that are at least 3.5 hours long!
Check out the thread to get HIS description of the workshops!

Tue, March 17, 2009 - 10:12 PMAh, the challenge of finding a free weekend in the summer, eh?
I'm not sure who your hooping friends are (get them on Tribe!!!), hopefully they can come play at one of the Saturday Circuses that isn't on a festival weekend...
... and I know a bunch of hoopers ARE in town for this weekend, or will be travelling TO town from Roberts Creek and other locations!

Re: Baxter from Hoop Path is coming in July!
Sat, April 4, 2009 - 9:16 AMWE HAVE DETAILS:
Saturday, July 11
5:00-8:00pm
Sunday July 12
1:00-4:00pm
Workshops both days are in the Birmingham studio at The Dance Centre, corner of Davie and Granville St. (visit thedancecentre.ca for location details)
Registration will be $120 USD for both days. First day only (for newcomers) and second day only (for those who have attended a Hoop Path workshop previously) pricing will only be announced close to the date if spaces remain available.
Registration will be done online, through the normal ticketing/registration service that they use for all of their workshops. That should be set up in the next week or so, one of us will post the link when it is ready.
Extra social opportunities: come downtown early and join in the Saturday Circus, the weekly public playdate of the Vancouver Hoopers and the local skill toy community. 2-4pm, we meet outside the Vancouver Art Gallery at the corner of Robson and Howe, and play at the base of the steps leading to the Gallery Cafe. Bax and Ann will be there (Ann's stoked about working on contact juggling and I'm going to see if Bax has mad unicycle skills), and we always have extra hoops, poi, and juggling gear to share!
We will also find a nearby restaurant for a post-class group dinner on Saturday night to recharge after our first hooping session. (meal cost is not included in the workshop registration fee)
If you are coming from out of town and are looking for lodging, there are a ton of options within a few blocks of the Dance Centre, from high-class hotels to low-cost hostels. HI-Downtown Vancouver (on Burnaby St, quieter) and SameSun (on Granville St, above the strip with all the bars and nightclubs) are both decent locations, with dorm beds starting at $32. If you'd prefer to be billeted or couch surt, let me know and I'll see if anyone local can play host for the night! (I can't guarantee this as I know that most of our regulars are short on house space) I'm also happy to provide transit instructions from the airport or bus depot to the Dance Centre, just toss me a line.
What to bring: a water bottle, layered clothing so you can stay comfortable as the studio heats up, your favourite hoops (a range of sizes will be nice, but it is fine to just bring one if that is all you've got, or contact me if you'd like a loaner for the weekend!), pen and paper, any medication or glucose you'll need to stay safe through extended activity, and extra cash for drinks, dinner and hot Hoop Path tshirts!
Still to come: a description of each day of the workshop, and the registration link.
Already here: mass excitement!!!!

Re: Baxter from Hoop Path is coming in July!
Wed, July 8, 2009 - 11:53 AMBax has just let me know that there are spaces for people to join in the Saturday workshop if you just want to take First Steps and get your feet on the Hoop Path for one day!
$60 USD, the link should be going up on the Hoop Path website today, or send him a note at baxter@hooppath.com to save you a spot until the link IS ready!
Any of you who did the workshop here last year (or a Hoop Path workshop elsewhere) who want to do Sunday-Only, get in touch! (sorry, Sunday-Only is limited to just those folks who are already familiar with the Hoop Path's teachings, no first-timers on Sunday!)
