(if you are on my email list, this is the same information I just mailed out!)

In this newsletter: lots of links to hooping videos, ChristaHoops class updates, Hoop Path workshop dates, Saturday Circus starts up again, and a survey regarding prepay or loyalty drop-in cards for my classes. (Survey participants will be entered in a draw to win a credit towards classes or hoops!)

Hooping Footage

Having trouble describing 'hooping' to your friends? Check out these videos to see the style of dance I teach, both slow flowing style and faster tricking out!

Video clips of hoop dance and tricks are also featured regularly at hooping.org if you want to see a wide range of hoopers!

ChristaHoops classes

Mondays in May have been cancelled due to low registration again, and I'd love to see June classes run! I have two special offers for you:

1 - First timer discount: For anyone who hasn't tried one of my classes at the Dance Centre, pay only $10 drop-in for your first class! (this includes use of my hoops, just bring yourself and exact change, please!)

2 - Spread-the-word discount: refer a friend or have them mention your name when they register for a 4-week session, and I'll give YOU a $10 credit towards your next class registration or private, or $5 off your next two drop-ins. (No limits - the more new students you refer, the more credit you receive! Credits can be redeemed for up to 50% of any ChristaHoops class registration fee [Dance Centre classes only, these credits cannot be applied to Roundhouse workshops])

These offers are good for both Monday and Wednesday classes. Additional incentive to fill Monday classes in June: Register by April 25 for only $60 for four weeks (no class June 22)!

Do you have any ideas for helping me spread the word about my Hoop Play classes? Let me know!

Details about all my classes and workshops can be found on the Calendar page at christahoops.com

Hoop Path Workshops

Bax has confirmed the dates for his visit to Vancouver: the weekend of July 11 and 12, 2009! Stay tuned for times and pricing information, but do keep these dates free for some of the most amazing, intensive and focused hooping of your life! Visit Jonathan Baxter's YouTube channel to see some of his amazing hoop work:

I'll be heading to Carborro, NC to attend the annual Hoop Path retreat in June, and I can't wait for a weekend of hooping with this wonderful community!

Saturday Circus resumes this week!

The sun is shining, and I want to play! I had a bit of outdoor hooping last weekend on the pool deck at UBC, but I'm ready for more socializing! Please join me this Saturday, 2-4pmish outside the Vancouver Art Gallery. I haven't been by to check on the state of construction around our normal practice space near the Gallery Cafe steps, but we'll find somewhere nearby to play - just do a loop of the building until you find us! I'll have music and extra hoops to share, along with some sunscreen for those early-season freckles! Weekly updates on who is heading out to the Circus can be found in the Vancouver Hoopers tribe on tribe.net and in the Saturday Circus group on Facebook.

More video clips for you, one is of CTV's coverage of the Saturday Circus a couple years ago, and the other is a more casual clip that includes more of the non-hoopers that usually come out to play! Bring your partners and kids to try out hooping, juggling and more!

(if you're curious about those things that I'm twirling in the second video, they are called "poi", and David of nightanddaydance.com teaches poi classes and privates locally, check out the 'poi and fire' link on their site!)

And finally, the survey!

Many of you have requested drop-in cards or another arrangement that would let you come to hoop classes through the warm months without committing to a weekly schedule, and I'd love to know which version would suit you best:

Option 1: A prepaid card loaded with a specific number of discounted drop-ins (5? 8? 10?) to be used within a certain time frame (four months?). Any outstanding drop-ins would be added onto the next prepaid card (thanks to Open Door Yoga for this concept!) I would hold pre-paid cards so you don't to worry about losing yours! Prepaid cards could be shared, ie two people could use two discounted drop-ins from the same card. Using a prepaid card would also allow you to reserve a space in class if you gave at least 12 hours advance notice.

Option 2: A reward card that is marked each time you pay a full-price drop-in, and when the card is full (8?), your next drop-in is free! Reward cards would remain in your care and work like cash (lost cards would not be replaced), and would only be valid for one person's use (though the free drop-in could be gifted to someone else)

Option 3: Another suggestion? I'd love to hear it!

Please get back to me via email (christahoops@gmail.com) about the option you'd be most interested in, and how likely you would be to use it this summer if I had it in place. All responders will be entered into a draw, and for every 10 responders, I'll add a prize of a $20 credit!

Happy windy spring!
