saturday, may 16th is the first trout lake farmers market of the year (9am to 2pm)
www.bcfarmersmarket.org/market...ils.asp

to celebrate, there will be a hoop jam from 1pm to 3ish on the grass between the market and the lake (weather permitting).

there will be music and extra hoops and it is close enough to the sky train to hop over to the saturday circus afterward, if it's happening.

hopefully this will be a regular event.

  • part 2 - saturday, may 23rd!!

there are lots of trees for shade.
    • Why are the jams on the same day?

My boyfriend is a jazz musician and there were two jazz jams in the city....on the same night. Neither one survived because the community was split.

I dunno.. its just strikes me as funny. Imagine if there were Hoop jams everyday. We would all be CRAZY hoopers :)

(ps i actually have june 6th off for a gig, and then after im gonna come say hello to all you lovelies!! Working on the weekends is a drag)

      • we just wanted the trout lake jam to coincide with the farmers market. it would be lovely to have a jam on another day, too. i don't think anyone is too invested in the "success" of this jam, people can come or not, as they like. for me, it's close to my house, it's a lovely location with grass and trees and kids, and it actually gets me to go to the farmers market, so i dig it.

there may be fire/flow toy jams at trout lake on wednesday and sunday evenings coming up. a friend of mine sent out a message a few days ago, but i don't know if she wants it posted far and wide because part of the evening she will be teaching a free yoga class. i will check on that, and if the jams become regular i will post details here.
        • Certainly does sound nice, the snacks at the jam would be fantastic.

I guess i really just need to get Saturdays off. I have a seven seater van and I could potentially bring a bunch of silly hoopers from one jam to another. Could be very silly and very fun!!!

The fire jams on sundays have been great fun....they are up and running now and are making me giggle with excitement for how amazing this art form is becoming!

Im basically just stoked that the community is growing so vibrant, and after seeing another community suffer do to a similar thing, I just wanted to raise the point. However the idea of a nice sunny day with fresh strawberries and hula hoops is pretty inviting!
