This is related to vegetarianism- before going on the vegan process- what are some good suggestions for when you've been a meat eater your whole life, therefore your body's accostumed to that... and you feel the strong need for a strong protein that only meat or fish seems to satisfy??

Re: avoiding cravings
Tue, April 7, 2009 - 5:34 PMuh, i think you're asking what you should do if you crave meat. i'd eat beans or nuts. you can also get fake meats, but try to get ones that will be cooked into other food. when you try to go from flesh to non-flesh the taste will be kinda "off" from what you're looking for. another thing you might want to do is over eat a little. veggie foods tend to have less calories, so you may get tired and feel all lame if you're used to fatty boom-boom hamburgers or other nasty crap.
hope this helps a little -

Re: avoiding cravings
Wed, April 8, 2009 - 12:00 AMLuckily, I don't crave meat anymore (its been long enough since the last time I had it). Normally the smell of meat cooking makes me nauseous; I know that I'm craving protein if it smells good, so I eat some tofu or nuts, and it starts to smell gross again Maybe you could handle your meat cravings the same sort of way.

Fri, April 10, 2009 - 12:02 AMI suggest seitan. You can add it to stir fries or other dishes, or for a quick protein fix, eat it straight from the package. It's chewy, like meat is.

Sun, April 12, 2009 - 12:05 AMFake meat. Thank God the Whole Foods has a good selection of different kinds. Oh, and now a days, creamy soups are a good diversion. Whole Foods also has a ton of them, creamy but with no cream. Corn and lemongrass soup warmed in the microwave for a minute with a little salt and pepper is good and filling.
