hello fellow animal lovers (in the truest sense),
i am curious if anyone knows of any good vegan or vegetarian cafés and restaurants located in San Francisco? i checked in the phone book, but found little was listed. i'm an visual artist and culinary artist with some great vegan culinary creations and ideas that have not been tried yet in any similar fashion to recipes you find out there. i would love to work with such a place and persons to develop extraordinary recipes for the public that can even attract the carnivores into the cause. i'm interested in bottling some of the drink creations as well, which could be launched through the venue in association with some distributors. if anyone has any leads or anyone looking to partner on such a project, please send me a note. i would love to hear from you!
thank you kindly for your time reading this.
good tidings!

Re: vegan/ vegitarian restaurants/ cafes in San Francisco?
Thu, October 15, 2009 - 12:36 PMYou're likely to get lots of praise for Cafe' Gratitude.
Some of it earned. Much of it exaggerated.
My problem with both the Berkeley and San Francisco restaurants is that they're extraordinarily expensive for what you pay for. Unfortunately, that includes all too often an attitude of entitlement by their wait staff. For instance I speak of the huffy little hipster chick that got all fucking bent out of shape when I paid a $22.00 bill with two 20's. The presumptuous, tacky side of her felt compelled to asked me if I wanted my change back. When I told her that indeed I wanted my seventeen-something dollars back she got all huffy and pumped full of attitude. That's the second time I've had such an experience from two different employees. I'll never return.
But back to your question....
If you are going out for a nice night on the town with your posse I STILL recommend Greens (www.greensrestaurant.com) at Fort Mason. Tried and true I still love their food and the atmosphere though it has gotten sort of predictable over the years. Still good and still fun though and certainly NOT as overpriced as Millenium(www.millenniumrestaurant.com/).
Herbivore (www.herbivorerestaurant.com) is a tad trendy with more than a few hipsters trying to act like they're not hipsters which only magnifies their hipster quotient - if you know what I mean.... I've always like this place because it has consistently had some of the freshest produce that I know of. The menu is original and has more than a few spicy dishes rather than the mushy blandness that often gets passed off as veggy fare.

yeah, i'm looking for a place with good attitude. i heard cafe gratitude is very overpriced as well, though i've never been able to go there because my income... thus not experiencing the "Gratitude" they claim we are supposed to feel. affordability is a key factor for me for that reason, as i'd like to cater to both the general population and the higher income and not leave anyone out of trying the new creations.
i'll check into those places, they sound tasty. i've been to Herbivore once in berkeley and was pleased with them.
thanks much! -

Sat, October 17, 2009 - 3:00 AMI like this restaurant and as I'm often researching at the main library it's very convenient,. Friendly, code and reasonably priced.
www.anandafuara.com/
there's a vegetarian cafe way out on Judah in the Sunset all most to the beach but I don't know it's name. It was inexpensive and the vegetarian chili was very good. -
