Brooklyn Baladi Bellydance Weekend Workshops


Now is your chance to study with Kaeshi of Bellyqueen! Leona and nina d. are excited to bring Kaeshi to Vancouver this September for a weekend of workshops and a gala show. This is Kaeshi’s first time teaching in Vancouver - her workshop topics include material suitable for both Egyptian cabaret and tribal fusion styles.

Kaeshi co-founded the New York based dance company, Bellyqueen, with Amar Gamal in 1998 and is the current artistic director. In 2004 Kaeshi co-founded PURE (Public Urban Ritual Experiment). Kaeshi has performed and taught all over the word including the US, Canada, Europe, Mexico, Bali, Trinidad, Australia and extensively throughout Asia. In 2003-2004 she performed with the Bellydance Superstars and held the position of dance captain for the 2004 US & Canadian Spring tour.

Saturday Workshops:

Belly Popping technique and combos - 10am-noon
The sound of world music is changing. Update your dance style with some funky new combinations inspired by the New York popping and Hip-Hop scene, plus learn new ways to isolate your body. Ideal for dancers who are interested in Tribal Fusion.

Move Your Belly - 1pm-3pm
Perfect for a beginner-intermediate solo/troupe. Egyptian styled choreography, steps are arranged in fun floor patterns. Finger cymbal technique will also be covered.

Sunday Workshops:

Ciganska - 10am - noon
Kaeshi will teach a fiery Gypsy choreography fusing movement elements from multiple world cultures from Spain, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe and New York, set to the wonderful music of
"Ciganska" by Balkanoia. (Please wear a long skirt.)

Bitwannes Beek – 1pm - 3pm
Oriental choreography set to a raqs sharki favourite! This choreography includes finger cymbals and is for intermediate to advanced dancers.

1/2 day workshop $ 55
Full day workshop $ 90
