Re: Sharna's very basic no lanuage tutorials with slow mo.
Thu, October 25, 2007 - 11:48 AMthank you sooo much. I love this new tribe, I love those videos. This just makes it so much easier for those of us who are new to hooping AND new to technology...read computers and tribe and such. -

Re: Sharna's very basic no lanuage tutorials with slow mo.
Mon, November 12, 2007 - 7:16 AMthat one handed "beam" is a great move that would make a good transition move. thanks for posting this tutorial! love the music.
also, i still haven't figured out that behind the back thing, but i just watched your tutorial again, and i think i figured out what i'm doing wrong. i actually watched your right hand, and i get it. i made myself a couple of little hoops for practicing this stuff, hopefully i can make one of them fly.
thank you!! -

Re: Sharna's very basic no lanuage tutorials with slow mo.
Wed, November 14, 2007 - 10:54 AMSharna thank you for all your tutorials. You were a key player in helping me learn the "beam me up" last month.
Thanks for sharing mama!

Re: Sharna's very basic no lanuage tutorials with slow mo.
Thu, January 24, 2008 - 2:53 PMSue asked for a three beat weave, I'm no good at describing verbally but here another non verbal at the move and close, Youtube has mullered it though as always. www.youtube.com/watch -

Re: Sharna's very basic no lanuage tutorials with slow mo.
Thu, January 24, 2008 - 2:57 PMI am so glad to see someone do a three beat weave that is actually a three beat weave! Most people are only doing a cross over but calling a three beat weave. Still, if you look closely, the same arm is crossing over the top every time. But not YOU girl!!! You have it going on. This is a perfect three beat weave. Great tutorial. I like the way you show the hoop spinning loose around the thumb. That is essential to making this move work. You superhero! -

Re: Sharna's very basic no lanuage tutorials with slow mo.
Fri, January 25, 2008 - 10:13 AMI thought this looked wrong as I was posting it. Megan, on youtube pointed it out to me that I do not do the third beat properly on the right side. I will make a demo with slo mo tomorrow in daylight as my house at night makes for terrible video. Could you then delete the posts in this thread Natasha as I will remove the other video when I have done this. -
-
This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Sharna's very basic no lanuage tutorials with slow mo.
Fri, January 25, 2008 - 11:22 AMI didn't even notice that. I was so happy to see three beats AT ALL! You're right though. That second set of three beats is where the real challenge lies. -

Re: Sharna's very basic no lanuage tutorials with slow mo.
Sun, January 27, 2008 - 1:17 PMAlright here is the correct three beat weave, on both sides with a weave, just to demonstrate the difference. Unfortuntely this vid is too slow in some parts but I just did not have the patience to make it again, imovie would not let me undo the effect later on. I did make a better version but did not save it before trying to share it and imovie crashed....boo hoo...technology is cool sometimes and sometimes its s***.

Re: Sharna's very basic no lanuage tutorials with slow mo.
Mon, January 28, 2008 - 3:37 AMThis is excellent! The slow speed is a fantastic aid when you are trying to see exactly what's happening. I can see how the hoop moves around in your hands as well as in the space around you. All sorts of changes are taking place, the hoop rolls round your thumb, your hand position changes from inside to outside regularly, all good stuff that I've not been able to see much of before.
There is something blocking in my brain for this move at the moment. I've been practicing over the weekend with poi. I can do each hand separately whilst holding the empty hand out in place, but as soon as I try to put them together my brain scrambles all the messages and runs away! The left side is poorest, so the right side of my brain is obviously less well developed for this kind of maneuver.
I will keep practicing with one handed poi until the muscles just do it without the rest of me. Then I'll try to put it together, then I'll try it with hoops. It shouldn't be this hard, but I can physically almost 'feel' the block. All it will take is one moment of clarity and it will come. Until then, I'll keep trying.
Thanks for another amazingly helpful tutorial video Sharna. -

Re: Sharna's very basic no lanuage tutorials with slow mo.
Mon, February 4, 2008 - 11:31 AMYay! For the past 8 months, the three beat weave has equaled frustration for me.
Thanks for the video Sharna, many of my poi-spinning friends have tried to explain this to me with no success. I'm excited to give this a shot with my freshly made twin hoops! -

Re: Sharna's very basic no lanuage tutorials with slow mo.
Tue, March 11, 2008 - 3:24 PMMy tribe friend Lizzie requested this breakdown of the twin over the shoulder move that I put up on Youtube a while ago. The first move is in preparation but when you go to do it with two hoops you have to move faster, or perhaps you could do an extra turn....I'll give it ago...hopefully it's helpful in some way :-)

Re: Sharna's very basic no lanuage tutorials with slow mo.
Thu, July 24, 2008 - 3:46 PMOk, a new one "Angie's Fancy Circus Start" Angie from hulahooper.com showed me this fancy start at Glastonbury. I asked if it was ok to share with my hooping mates on Tribe and she was down with that :-) I'm not very graceful with it yet but it will come, I'm also learning to get my leg back in (I find it hard for some strange reason). I have a few others to share in the near future but in the meantime here it is: www.youtube.com/watch -

Re: Sharna's very basic no lanuage tutorials with slow mo.
Tue, July 29, 2008 - 2:46 AMHere is the shoulder duck out slo mo vid tutorial without my voice :-) it was requested by someone from youtube and also the shoulder pass, aka not matrix, was requested here. I'm no good with breaking it down any further in words so if anyone else wants to please write me the breakdown and i'll add it to the vid. At the end I attempt a front shoulder pass ala Brecken (got a long way to go)

Tue, July 29, 2008 - 9:27 AMthanks Sharna, the front shoulder pass is something I'm working on too... it's a toughie and the hoop seems magnetically drawn to my face... -

Re: Sharna's very basic no lanuage tutorials with slow mo.
Sun, December 28, 2008 - 12:27 PMI love the slow-mo and close ups. I think that may be what I really need on the moves I asked for help on. I can't do the arm roll but now I can see the basis for it - thanks! -

Re: Sharna's very basic no lanuage tutorials with slow mo.
Thu, January 15, 2009 - 5:25 AMThanks sooo much for posting these videos. I absolutely love the slow motion. As a newbie I'm not always sure of hand placement and such and sometimes feel like a bit of a klutz.
I've been working on the duck out and the beam me up.These videos help me see the exact positioning of the body and hands, if the hand rotates, where my body should be when the hands infront or back etc.
Absolutely magnificent! Kudos to you Sharna Rose!!
