Ooh! I'd love to see a tutorial on barrel rolls or the continuous step-through thing. Cause I can do the basic step-through but I can't go back and forth like you pros. :)

BTW, I love that you thought of this tribe.

Here is my barrel roll tutorial:

there are a few more technical things that have to do with angles that are not in there but may help. I am doing an angles troubleshoot next so if you are still having trouble this may help as well!

I would love to see a tutorial on knee hooping. I realize it might be a hard one to teach, but I can't seem to get it yet.
There was a tutorial on YouTube somewhere, I can't find it at the moment.

Perhaps another way to get tutorials we're looking for would be to start a thread with that in the subject.
I'll do that for the knee thing.
    We'll see how it goes.

I was having a hard time with my hoop just slipping off once it goes below my waist.. then I put fabric on a new hoop and it sticks (thanks Shadjua!) The other tape was vinyl, so very slippery..

Are there any tutorials on the booty bump (I think is what it's called???)

struggling with knee-hooping here...after a year hooping, I really want to get this down...well...it goes down alright....to the ground. Can't seem to stay away from the position where both knees go together and the hoop is flying fast...no control and no way to get it up. i try and try but protective of my knees so I don't over do it..still...help?

I would love to see a tutorial on passing the hoop to your other hand behind your back while doing an "infinity" or criss cross (not sure what it's called). I have been trying to get this down for a while but I think seeing it before my very eyes would make all the difference.

Howdy. Though I don't have a video cam (YET!) I'd like to suggest a few 'tings to help you out.

              1. Be patient -- Breathe -- Smile -- Don't Give Up.
              2. Keep the heel of your working leg off the ground (to help smooth out & guide the rotations as well as control the speed)
              3. Practice working one leg style & both legs (sometimes one is more natural than the other)
              4. Perhaps invest in a neoprene knee brace (which was a lifesaver for my 'wonky side' -- you know... the side that doesn't "get it" straight away ) It will help keep the bruising down to a minimum & will slightly pad your knee cap)

Keep working at it & take breaks often. I found once I relaxed a bit & stopped TRYING so hard, it started working better. Good Luck.

This video isn't the best in the world, but it gives you the basic idea of the rotation on the ball of the foot.

The way I leg and knee hoop is a bit different... I kind of shift my weight from foot to foot on the balls of my feet as though I were taking little half steps in place.
To bring the hoop back up, I shift from foot to foot a little bit faster, turn with the hoop and bump it up with my alternating legs.
I'll post a video when I get home from work tonight, maybe it'll help.

        Hi SaFire,
I watched it and it was very helpful. I tried it this morning during my practice period. Gosh, it kind of hurts so I have to building of a little tolerance I think. My hoop is pretty light 1 lb 7 oz so I think it is my body being sensitive.

Thanks for all that you are doing. Very helpful.

I am dying to know how to do the behind the back "swish". LIke when the hoop is spinning not around you but vertical, off the body behind you. I know its probably simple but I can't find the key to unlock it.

I second the request for a tutorial for the "booty bump". I went to the workshop Caroleena taught yesterday...I practiced last night and again this morning. You'd think that with my booty...it wouldn't even need a *bump*...but, there you go.

Ok: I have two requests. And these might be hard ones to break down, since the moves are pretty advanced. But I would absolutely LOVE to learn both of these...

The first one is Natasha's "Not the Matrix" trick on the Hoop Moves Submission video:
    youtube.com/watch
I think this is one of the trippiest tricks I've seen. Natasha - if you can make a tutorial on this one, I will be forever grateful! You're a fabulous teacher, and I've learned so much from you already. BTW - this new 'video tutorials' tribe ROCKS!

And the second request is from the PSI Dragonfly demo with Anah. She does a vertical move in the beginning of this video & flips over so that she's leaning backwards with her upper body facing the ceiling. She then alternates arms in and out of the hoop and ultimately rolls the hoop up, over her head. I love the way this move looks!

  • REQUESTS FOR TUTORIAL VIDS!!

    Sat, December 8, 2007 - 2:48 PM
Yay! I'm happy to have discovered this tribe.

I have a number of requests, but I'll start with just one.

    -barrel roll while shoulder hooping.

When I start out facing downward, when I flip over my hoop always slips up and whacks me in the face. Ouch.
When I start out facing upward, when I flip over my hoop slips down my shoulders towards my waist and I have to stop the flipping to scooch it back up while I'm facing down and then I have the problem of whacking myself in the face when I flip to face upwards again.

I think my lip is STILL bleeding from this afternoon's attempt, heh.

    • Re: REQUESTS FOR TUTORIAL VIDS!!

      Sat, December 8, 2007 - 4:26 PM
Just like in regular (non-barrel roll) shoulder hooping, you want to keep the hoop at the same place as the hoop rotates around your shoulders, chest, and back. Really think about keeping the hoop on the same plane. Imagine your body is a column and you want the hoop to stay at the same spot as it rotates. Right now the hoop is going up and down on the column as you barrel roll.

You need to concentrate on your pushes as you barrel roll. The hoop slips up when your front push is not hard enough. The hoop slips down when your back push is not hard enough. Also make sure to use your shoulders. If you feel the hoop slipping up towards your face, shrug your shoulder up to catch the hoop and bring it back down to shoulder level. If you feel the hoop slipping down your back, shrug your shoulder to bring the hoop back up to shoulder level. When you are facing downward, as you flip up make sure to make a half circle with your shoulder passing the hoop from front out to the side and then to the back (shrugging if you need to get the hoop lower and away from your poor bloody lip!). When you are facing up and flipping down, use your other shoulder, making a half circle from back to the side to the front.

          From Holly Berry:

I would love to see an video explaining a bit of hoop poi. My problem is probably the fact that I totally suck at poi, so the translation is likely to be a little tricky.

Maybe just some slo-mo on a cross over move.

If anyone is up to the challenge it would be greatly appreciated.
          Happy Hooping

Does anyone have a video of the (I think it's called) 3 beat weave with 2 hoops? In my class we call it the double infinity. I just can't get it. I've been shown so often, but I need a simple video just to watch over and over to see if I can finally bring it off. I have 2 light hoops just waiting.....

Coming out of a shoulder barrel roll into a two handed isolation. That looks so damn hot.

hi! i have 2 basic requests:

    1. i'd love to see a slo-mo showing how to raise the hoop off the body (over the head) from shoulder hooping at an angle. when i see people do it, i can't figure out which hand to use, where to grab it, etc. and end up whacking myself in the face.

    2. i see that there's a video posted on variations of duckouts, but i'd love to see just a regular duckout tutorial!

    thanks!

      Fri, February 29, 2008 - 6:45 AM
I breezed thru most of Hoopnotica DVD 1 for beginners. Rayna's program is awesome and the troubleshooting parts were alot of help. I got the basics down except for the "floating" bit. I just can't get it. Any suggestions or other tutorials would be great. So, my lovely hoopers, I turn to you and beg for guidance. Thanks, as always, for your help, love, support, encouragement and generously sharing your knowledge and time. Wurd.

        Fri, February 29, 2008 - 6:53 AM
Hi Dana.. yea.. I can help you with this in April.. in NC.. if you want.. one thing that really helped me with the floats or beam me ups (float down and up) is to make sure i turn my hand to the inside of the hoop. In other words instead of my fingers pointing up to the sky on the inside of the hoop, turn them horizontal on the inside of the hoop and pressing against the inside walls. the other thing is to make your you are movng your hand / path of your arms in a spiral around your body .. not just raising your arm straight up. I know that doesnt make sense but if you watch their video.. it will. They discuss that there. If you still have problems.. let me know.. I will try to film something tonight about the hand positioning... it makes all the difference in the world.
  • Vertical behind the head pass?

    Wed, March 5, 2008 - 2:35 PM
I have a request please :). I'm not even sure what to call this move LOL, so I'll try to describe it. It's when you pass the hoop behind your head, vertically, from one hand to the other. The arms are to be bent, held at head level, and the hoop seems to rotate once in the middle while being passed. I can't seem to do this move without whacking myself in the head. I figure there must be something I'm not seeing.
  • Re: ~~ Requests ~~

I have a request about requests.

If you are requesting a tutorial on a move that you've seen in a video, it would help so much to post a link to the video along with the time stamp for when the move occurs. Sometimes I find it hard to understand what people are looking for just from their descriptions.

I would love to see a video on how to get the hoop to go up! I can hoop at the waist, and get it down to my knees...working on getting it up from knees, but I am having problems with getting the hoop to go up to my chest. I have done it by mistake a couple times, but can't do it on purpose!

    • Re: ~~ Requests ~~

      Wed, March 12, 2008 - 8:03 AM
My request: A basic fire hooping tutorial. I've never seen a video tutorial that was specific to fire hooping. I'm not necessarily asking for fire safety info. I know that there are a number of resources where fire safety info. can be accessed. I'm more interested in how to get started (what to do when the flame is at its highest point) and which moves are both easy and beautiful for new fire hoopers. Also, what would you recommend if/ when there's a burst of wind when you're fire hooping? I ran into this problem for the first time last night.

I'm noticing that fire hooping is very different than regular hooping. When the hoop is first lit, I've seen hoopers dancing with the flames above their heads and then they bring it down when it gets to a more comfortable level. I feel like an idiot just twirling in circles, waiting for the flame to go down - I'm hoping there's someone out there who would be willing to give some advice on graceful moves for high flames.

I'd love to see a start to finish fire hooping video, along with tips and recommendations. I started a discussion thread on this a couple weeks ago. Now, if I had the visual to go with it, I'd be set :)

      Here's the discussion thread:

The next time I light up at practice or Rhonda and I get together..I will try to film some of these for you Hoolamonster. I dont really worry about the flame being at the higest point either.. I do a few horizontal isolations ( where I am in the center) and then bring it to waist first... that buys time for a little burn off... then go for it. I mean.. even if your arm passes through the flame.. it's not going to hurt. your moving to quickly. What you want to watch out for on some models is the metal spokes.

Can anyone break down the process that HoopPathers use when they do that really cool reversals thing whilst shoulder hooping? The hands look really relaxed, come up into the hoop somehow and cross over at the front (I think). They they sweep the hoop from one direction to the other in a continuous reversal. Looks great.

there are two tricks i'd really like to learn...

    1) switching elbows (horizontally) behind my back w/ a pop up into the hoop

    and

    2) the move where you duck your head out and the hoop goes around one shoulder, over your neck/back, and around the other shoulder before popping your head back up into the hoop

i'd be soooooo appreciative if someone can give me the beta on these. they're KILLING me!!!

Well, I've gotten better. I think the advice of practicing leaning straight down helped. Also I was somehow curving my hand around and throwing the hoop up my back - which my teacher thinks looks cool, too, but which was harder to catch. She suggests holding the hand straight out as if saying, "Beer me!"

Jumps? I'm pretty shy about jumping (not wanting to break any bones!) but beginning to try, could uise suggestions on some that people consider "easier". For instance, I can (sometimes!) jump into a "highway ramp". I know theoretically about jumping into a "vertical figure-8" but don't have the nerve to try yet. I'm not agile enough to make one monumental jump with both feet, I need to move them one at a time.

          Hi there,
My friend Vicky LOVES breaks/reverses. Here's a video of her that might help you. You can reverse with hands coming from underneath to the outside ( I think this is easiest) or staying in, or you can use the other arm to reach across and "pull" the hoop back toward you. Good luck!

i didn't have time to read the 104 posts on here, so hopefully this isn't a duplicate. i could really use a tutorial on how to get the hoop off the body while on the vertical plane doing the shoulder barrel roll and getting it back on the body from the vertical plane. or any other way of getting the hoop off the body and back on while on the vertical plane. and the behind the back isolation like at about :38 in this video: www.youtube.com/watch thanks so much for your time!!!

Any links for shoulder hooping on the vertical plane (earth angle)? Am I pushing more on the back (like booty bump) or maintaining a 4 point movement on a different plane? Thanks!xxx
