new supplements

Do you know what all these new supplements are for exactly and how they work? Like Coenzyme Q10 and Alpha lipoic acid? They seem to be good in effect but I have no idea what they actually do in the body.
Carnitine, on the other hand, seemed to give me hypoglycemia, I was constantly hungry when I took it.

Actually I'm still in the discovery and research stage, myself. Please feel free to post anything you learn about.

I tried a sobe fruit drink (red grapefruit) that contained carnitine. I'll have to discover more about this supplement.

    Q10- Dr Weil's website says...

    Coenzyme Q10
Coenzyme Q 10 also called CoQ10, is a natural substance, present in most foods, that acts as an antioxidant and helps with cellular metabolism. Coenzyme Q may improve the utilization of oxygen at the cellular level, and patients with congestive heart failure, coronary insufficiency or diabetes may find it worth trying in doses of 30-100 milligrams a day.

Here Q10 is mainly sold to give you more beautiful skin and more energy. It seems to strenghten the cell walls and thus prevents cancer. Just, I don't really understand how, and how much of that is true. But it does seem to improve the look of my skin. They also sell handcream with it in it.
