Here's another conversation starter. I know many of us have already been lucky enough to visit one of our homelands but if you could travel to Holland or Indonesia, which would you choose and why?
I would pick Indonesia simply because I was born there and have never been. Both countries have so much to offer the traveler in the way of sights, history, FOOD, art and culture.
I have been to Holland four times and love the cozy family centered lifestyle, shopping in Amsterdam, visting my family and experiencing the different ways that they live, the Strandt in the summer time. But I have yet to see the land of my birth. I wonder whether I still have family on Java that I might visit some day.
Anyway, which country would you visit and why?

Re: Holland or Indonesia?
Mon, June 2, 2008 - 11:08 AMI could understand why you would pick Indonesia since you would like to revisit your birth place. Indonesia is a beautiful country where our family holds a lot of history. Bali was one of my favorite places. Although my only concern would be safety issues, I would suggest to have a trusted family member tour guide such as Djoko Pratomo (Oma vStock nephew, son of Tante Suparmi ,Oma 's vStock sister) he lives in Jakarta. Djoko has three sisters Endang, Tri and Tootie. I believe Tootie lives in Surabaya. A trusted tour guide is imparative especially if you do not speak the language. I would also caution for health issues: eateries are not so hygenic. Other than that it should be fun.
My choice would be Holland.......because: You can visit more than just Holland. Depending on which direction you decide there are so many beautiful places to visit in Europe on the Eurorail. You can appreciate multiple countries history, art, culture ect...
Happy Travels...Tammy

Re: Holland or Indonesia?
Mon, June 2, 2008 - 9:30 PMThanks for the information about our family Tam. I did not know we still had close family alive there.
I agree about the advantages of Holland's accessibility to the rest of Europe and highly recommend train travel there. Not as simple to travel from Indonesia to other countries I imagine.
