I finally got a section of garden planted and reasonably sure I won't get killing frost. I pulled a lot of cress before it went to seed, pulled a bit of corn salad which is naturalizing and left some chickweed which can only be managed anyway. I planted broccoli, purple cabbage, poppies, red lettuce and dahlias all in the same bed and plan to put some edible pansies to hang over the rock wall of the bed. I always selectively weed so its a little tricky with wwoof interns but hopefully they will get some good knowledge of edible plants. I'm so excited to do more mixed beds than ever and less row crops though there are a few like peas or carrots that are easier to manage in clumps or rows.
The salads are getting better every day! Yum!

Re: Gardening With "Weeds"
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 1:21 PMYum - chickweed in salads :-) We let our weeds (within reason) grow with the plants we plant, and we "talk" to all the plants and tell them to get along hehehe - it seems to work! -
