Missy and I are spending the day together thanks to her many friends.....notes, e-mails, pictures, videos and music that have been send throughout this past year.
As you know, Hafiz was one of Missy's favorite poets. I found this quote that seems to sum up Missy's recipe for life:
One regret dear world, that I am determined not to have when I am lying on my
deathbed is that I did not kiss you enough.
It makes me laugh because, dear friends, we all know that Missy kissed the world with one big, long, wet, mushy Missy kiss and a great big, warm. fuzzy, all-encompasing Missy hug...(we can all picture this so clearly!)...so...NO REGRETS there!
Perhaps her own words are worth remembering today, and every day. I know that they have given me strength.
Not My Will, Thy Will, by Missy Baron
I open myself to the will of G-d,
The flow of the universe,
the playing out of Karma.
I accept what comes
and what does not...
I open to the peace that comes from releasing desires, releasing fears,
from trusting in G-d.
Having faith...
I am taken care of...
I am never alone.
There is no separation
between me and you
and G-d and love.
There is a part of me
that will always BE.
So, I hope you all have a day full of warm memories and love.
Big hug & kiss to the tribe and to the world.
Love,
Momma

Re: As we remember
Thu, January 11, 2007 - 9:09 AMWe love you Joyce! That was such a beautiful message. Thank you for reposting Missy's poem. It is one of my favorites that I have read from her. It really makes everything seem OK once you read her words.

Thu, January 11, 2007 - 9:21 AMThank you for posting both of those poems. The one from Hafiz brought a smile and a tear to my eye, and the one from Missy just makes me think of her. She is still in my heart and in my soul. And, if I haven't told all of you enough lately, you are all such wonderful, beautiful people and I am so glad to be connected to you all through such a wonderful, beautiful person such as Missy. C.

Thu, January 11, 2007 - 9:26 AMToday as I stood in my birthday suite- not a pretty sight- I remembered... and ran to my closet to get my purple boa and my sparkley purple ear rings, and then I dressed around that theme.
I know, but I still have her cell number on my phone, for those all important uplinks!! :) afterall, it was Hot Buttered Rum String Band that brought us together on the rail after months of chatting from the rail and "designing" t shirts!
Love to all of you, you know who you are, and big hugs with full moon eyes... -

Re: As we remember
Thu, January 11, 2007 - 11:42 AMLike many, I am feeling the loss in my life that Missy's absence brings up.
I don't think Missy would want us to be sad that we don't get to spend time with her anymore though. I think she would want us to remember what a full life she lived while she was here.
Missy drank deeply of this mysterious thing called life. She traveled, she was very generous with her love, and she was completely honest with people, which is only possible when one is honest with themselves.
She set a wonderful example for us all. I hope to be more like Missy as I go through life.
Let's celebrate Missy as we remember her. It's tough for us not to spend any more time with her, but I think it's worth remembering what a wonderful life she lived while she was here.

Re: As we remember
Thu, January 11, 2007 - 4:08 PMI'm gonna wear my Missy scarf tonight. It's super cold in Santa Cruz.
That scarf reminds me of something.
when Missy passed, she brought so many people together. I was at the SLO show last January, sporting my Missy scarf. I was throwing one end across the dancefloor, over peoples heads. It would somehow, magically, end up on the shoulder of an unsuspecting lady. As she would grab it and turn around to see where it came from, I would smile and reel her in like a fish and give her a big juicy Missy hug. A now great friend Carl, asked me what I was doing. We called it "babefishing". The next time Carl and I saw each other was in Nevada City for the Missy memorial show. There was Carl, scarf in hand and a smile on his face. We both had our fishing licenses and had not yet caught our limit;)
I know it sounds funny, but this was the same type of silliness and mischief that Missy would have enjoyed.
Missys passing was not just an accident. There was a clear purpose to what happened and that purpose was to bring us all togeher on a more spiritual and personal level. It can be difficult to keep up with all the wonderful people we meet throught all of our combined travels, especially a social bunch like us! Missy gave us all a connection that went beyond the music and beyond the party. she brought out potential to love MORE in all of us. I'm so happy that I'm learning how to love more and better each and evey day!!!
Love you Missy.

Re: As we remember
Fri, January 12, 2007 - 7:54 AM<<Ted - you were on the bus?? >>
No, but Missy made Mia and me honorary members of Q4.....below is the story that I posted via alomusic just under a year ago......I then posted it on this Tribe after HSMF this year, that thread is here:
tribes.tribe.net/welovemis...a761ae7f31
<<Wanted to share a quick Missy story -- I didn't know her that well but have fond memories. I met Missy last summer, at the New Monsoon/ALO shows in San Francisco, and immediately found her to be a sweetheart....she had helped organize the NM party bus to the shows, and had posted a few times on the alomusic group about it. So when we arrived on night 2, and the bus was there out front with a bunch of NM fans, out in line I asked "where is Missy Baron?" Turns out she was a few people ahead in line, I introduced myself and my wife Mia, hugs all around, and we got to talking. She almost immediately asked, "do you and Mia want to be honorary members of Quadrant 4?", and others around her said "yeah!" We had no idea what this meant, but it seemed to be good fun, and maybe have something to do with dividing up the party bus group for a contest or something (?), so of course we said "yeah!" She introduced us to other members of Quadrant 4, and we started calling it Q-4 and saying "Q-4 rocks" and such. While still in line, I made up a "Q-4" hand signal, and we spent all night giving the Q-4 sign to eachother and laughing.
In fact, you can hear a Q-4 reference on the recording of the ALO portion of the show (www.archive.org/audio/etre...ails-db.php in the first track called "Intro"...I just checked, at about 1:04 into the track, as the band is getting ready to start, you hear a woman who I assume must be Missy yell "Quadrant 4 rules!" Zach of ALO says into the mike, "Quadra 4 rules??"
After the show, I wrote a little review and posted it on alomusic, mentioning Missy as the "NM fan" who organized the party bus. She wrote back to me and said she was not "just" an NM fan, but also a longtime ALO fan....so of course in good fun from then on I referred to her simply as "NM Fan."
We traded a few more e-mails over the months, and I saw her a few more times, High Sierra and other places, always smiles and a hug and a Q-4 hand sign.
When I got her e-mail a few days ago about leaving for Georgia, I responded with this:
******************
Q-4 ROCKS
forever and always
safe travels NM fan, see you next time!
ted :)
*****************
....tears in my eyes.....
RIP Missy, thanks for touching my life, however briefly.
And everyone else, it seems life is short and fragile.....hug the people you love and tell them you love them.
ted :) -
