Hi enthusiasts!
There was a flurry of mind expanding events over the last few weekends, a very well known male dancer from Cairo named 'Tito' delighted some of us with his amazing performance on Sat. night, it lived up to the hype and expectations!
Tito is an exceptionally charismatic performer; he executed his movements with such precision, and carried himself with a refined masculine grace.
Overall it was a very impressive show. To me, the highlights of his performance were; a lively stick dance which admittedly was a bit of a balancing spectacle with several large wooden sticks, but it was injected with a great deal of wit and interaction, coupled with accurate musical interpretation and lightning fast turns that made it great dancing and a great trick. Another standout was also an almost unbelievable drum solo dance that he executed exquisitely on top of an Egyptian Tabla. What was amazing about this particular performance was his ability to focus his explosive energy over such a small area, and how it intensified everything.
I learned quite a bit from watching his performance. It’s interesting how what fine a line there is between what is executing a series of ‘tricks’ and really dancing - what Tito was doing was dancing without a doubt, but what is it that makes it so? It is emotion, grace and musicality that distinguishes one from the other...does anyone have any ideas on this they’d like to share?....
Tito taught a series of workshops at the weekend to, I would love to hear some reviews if anyone here went to them....
Looking forward to hearing some other points of view,
Dawn

Re: Recent Events
Wed, September 12, 2007 - 6:26 PMI missed the event because of my saturday gig in Freo.... but! I have seen videos of Tito dancing and what I like most about him is that he's natural looking : simple outfit, no strass and glitter.... He doesn't need that !! His dancing is so energetic and refined that you can see every single move without all the jiggling! Also I like his facial expression when he dances : despite the fact that he's very technical, his face looks relaxed and smily all the time... Hopefully, next time, I won't miss him LIVE !!!! xoxo Yami
