Well, this is my first post, and I'm guessing that it's supposed to be an introduction type thing. I'm pretty sure I am not alone in being apathetic about this whole project, and I fear for the people who would really take this very seriously for any other reason then getting a decent grade in EMF 129, on the other hand it is not like I have any moral authority to judge (but I do it anyway).
I'll mostly be going over creative writing in this blog, and some of the semantics of it and sources of inspiration. There, for all three people who might actually read this post (excluding Jon Torn) I have given you something somewhat serious to mask my ultimate sense of nihilism about this whole project.

For starters, you used the wrong 'then'. It should be 'than'. =)
Second of all, your pessimism toward this assignment cracks me up. I think you're secretly enjoying the blogging. Either way, I admire your ability to express your feelings about this project in more than one sentence such as "I hate this". Really, it's awesome. And believe it or not, the pessimism is somehow amusing and enjoyable.

I can certainly agree with you there. I'm not quite sure what blogging has to do with audio/visual storytelling, and likely never will. The same goes for our last unit on advertising. There's a whole Major for people who want to learn about that. I thought we'd be studying films and television shows.

Re: All righty then....
Thu, March 27, 2008 - 2:42 PMCute, pretentious, bombastic.
In the spirit of one of the previous posts...
"I'm pretty sure I am alone... moral authority to judge (but I do it anyway)." One of the longest run on sentences I've ever seen. You need a coordinating conjunction after the appositive "and I fear..." as without the appositive, the sentence should still be complete. It should read 'but on the other hand".
What is a semantic in creative writing? A semantic is defined as 'something pertaining to meaning'. Are we going to get a list of terms from you? Are you going to go into detail and pick apart the connotations of the words 'creative' and 'writing'?
Ultimately this comes off as juvenile, mate. No one cares about your propensity to judge. No one cares about your 'something somewhat serious to mask your ultimate sense of nihilism'. You've come off as nothing but underhanded. It'd serve you well for several reasons to cut the crap the rest of the time we have to do this. I would venture to say we're all curious as to why we're using a social networking program for a potentially serious end.
And by the way, 'nihilism' is completely inappropriate in the context you've used it. It's one of those words bandied about by people who think it's an impressive word, or that they're somehow intellectually savvy if they use it. Anyone who has seen The Big Lebowski knows what nihilism is. Save it.

Well I guess its more than three people now. Its good that you are going over creative writing. There is always need for scripts in the film industry. I like fiction. Semantics are always good and fun to talk about. Yeah I think everyone just wants to get the grade, which is fine I do to. See you in class on Tues

I personally like the idea of starting a blog project. Firstly, it allows us to be in a remote location(not a classroom) to do this work. Secondly, I have never blogged before, and it is something that has piqued my interest over the past couple of years, so I am happy to take part init. And thridly, what better way to get class credit then to blog!!!!!

I don't understand why anyone would complain about this. it is nice knowing that i don't have to travel to class and i can do it all online right at my home. As for these beginning assignments on tribe, i believe Torn is just trying to get us used to this website so we can do other A/V oriented assignments. Boo YA.

No, I don't think you are alone, but its better to make the best of a bad situation. The whole 'not having moral authority to judge but doing it anyway' , that's pretty human. We all judge, we all have opinions. I don't understand what you mean by 'semantics and sources of inspiration'. Do you mean for you? Because everyone has different sources, different ways.

Bet you didn't think the whole class would read what you had to say. Make you a little nervous?? I'm not looking forward to this assignment either. I wish Jon would just post all the topics he wants us to do so I can just get it over with. Happy writing!

Creative writing is always fun. I find that listening to music, depending on the song, when you write can really affect the mood of the story.

Re: All righty then....
Sat, March 29, 2008 - 12:00 PMI was definitely wrong about only three people reading this post. I find that I write at my best whenever I just say whatever is on my mind.
As has been pointed out, and rightfully so, some of the grammar in my first post was atrocious. To be honest, I didn't even double check what I wrote to my chagrin. I can be thankful that at least my faulty grammar, and apparent character flaws for not portraying a false sense of optimism for my blog were pointed out. I'm sorry if my post offended anybody, which I kind of doubt, but it was not my intention.
Anyway, while I am writing on my grade-motivated blog I will definitely do my best to give you guys some good stuff to read. Besides, creative writing is one of the funnest activities one can undertake, and I enjoy the Hell out of it.
I'm not here to rain on anyone's parade. I'm glad that people are enjoying blogging, I'm just pointing out why I think this whole exercise is pointless outside of class. it's like finding the derivative of f(x)=4x^3+x^2+3x-4 outside of a calculus class seems somewhat pointless, unless you are in a situation where you need to find the slope of such a function for whatever reason.
If you enjoy blogging, I'm happy for you, have a ball, and by no means am I being facetious. I'm glad that people are enjoying blogging.
To appease the grammar Nazis, usually myself included, let's redo that first post:

I'll be going over creative writing in this blog, effective use of semantics, and sources of inspiration just to name a few elements. For all three people who might actually read this post (excluding Jon Torn) I have given you something somewhat serious to read to mask my apathy. -

Thu, April 3, 2008 - 1:29 PMYou can't be that caustic and not expect the 'grammar Nazis' to come out and play. And I'd just like to submit it for the record I think I did more railing on the overall tone and underhandedness of the post. But I was pissy that day. This day, well, I have tequila.

I too am feeling very apathetic towards this whole project, I think people who
take this online profiling seriously are "myspace whores" who have no life.
If I wasn't trying so hard to pass this class I really wouldn't even be developing
an online profile.
