Sat, March 22, 2008 - 4:38 PMI'm almost totally sure the Party Liberation Front is coming. We were gonna do PDF but this place looks beautiful. I just submitted the theme camp form. We would be bringing a large sound camp including lights, deco, a bar, and a chill space. Should be fun. I really can't wait to see this land. Being in the woods is going to be wonderful... -

Sun, March 23, 2008 - 7:19 AMI'll be there.
A couple cool things about Four Quarters are:
flush toilets, warm showers, and coffee in the morning.
Three oh so important things in my universe.
I look forward to meeting everyone over Memorial Day weekend.

Re: So who's all going?
Tue, March 25, 2008 - 10:03 AMTwist and I are, of course. We plan to bring Candygirl and maybe her new beau. Hopefully also Jsun, Joel (JET), Ian's bringing a large sound camp, Larry and Eileen from Conclave have said they're coming, Danny V. may also bring a sound camp, Joanna (Meander) is bringing Earth Beat (an installation and camp I think), and several other burner friends are seriously considering it. It's so exciting seeing all the people who are interested! (I think Darrel already responded to this thread, but if not, he's coming with a new version of Camp Contact, now called Deep Movement.) See you all there! -

Re: So who's all going?
Sat, March 29, 2008 - 11:06 AMI, too, am trading up the black flies, gnats, and unshaded sun at PDF for WMB this time around.
Talia will be away that weekend, so it'll be just me... currently torn between camping up at the high meadow or down near the north crook (where I tend to camp when attending GMSF there in June)

Re: So who's all going?
Sun, March 30, 2008 - 7:02 AMI hear that on the gnats and cow pasture.
Ya know I'm still participating in pdf but it's time for us to venture to a different burn that weekend :-)
Will be great to see ya! (will miss seein talia :-( )
I'm not too familiar with the camping areas at this point. I have been to 4q but that was years ago. Guess we'll play that by ear or something. -

Re: So who's all going?
Sun, March 30, 2008 - 9:00 AMPros for High Meadow: Central to the "big" areas (stage, the bulk of theme camps, drum/fire circle, the man, coffee dragons), generally good drainage when/if it rains due to it being sloped.
Cons for High Meadow: Get there early to get a place that has decent midday shade.
Pros for "downstairs" (north crook to the big bottom): All the shade you could want, cooler climes, close to the water, quieter and not as much car traffic. More likely to find a turtle making its way through your campsite.
Cons: You need to hoof it up a hill to get back up to the High Meadow areas. Advise setting up in the daylight so as not to inadvertently put your tent in the middle of some of the few poison ivy patches that can be found there and not in a gully where rain water collects... that's generally not a problem though.
Personally, I'm probably going to break with tradition and locate myself up in the High Meadow this time because I'll have about 200lbs of optics and associated gear that I don't want to lug up and down the hill.

Re: So who's all going?
Sun, March 30, 2008 - 10:37 AMactually , dale... downstairs is prolly going to be noiser, as that is where sound town will be.
and cars are not going to be allowed on the land during the event, except for drop off of gear, and pack up.
except for art cars, which will drove the loop road, and the occasional staff car & golf cart.

Re: So who's all going?
Sun, March 30, 2008 - 12:04 PMAh yes, I see that now after a second look at el map. I'm used to the north crook being quieter because during GMSF, that's where our chill out area is. All the raging psytrance happens up at the circle.
At any rate, if sound doesn't bother you, that whole area has its own kind of pleasantries with the foliage and all. Quite nice during a hot, sunny day.

Re: So who's all going?
Wed, April 2, 2008 - 8:46 AMThe Wine Man and Amira will be headed west to the cool of the mountains as well !! I will have my usual well stocked bar filled with tasty homemade fresh fruit wines. Because of the size of the Wine Bus we will be located on your left just past the upper parking lot as you are coming in. Everyone please feel free to stop by and visit, relax and chat, have a glass or two....or tree...See ya there at set up weekend!! -

So where should we camp?
Wed, April 2, 2008 - 11:46 AMWe've never been to 4qf, so I have no idea of the best place for us to set up. Shade is always good; fall PDF was TOO DAMNED HOT. We like talking to folks, and I love the idea of hanging out by my tent, (quietly) strumming my guitar, and watching people walk by. We don't need to be in the center of activity, but I find we tend to hole up if we're too far from the crowd.
Oh, and I'll be bringing loads of homemade wine, and we like to cook, so we'll have plenty of food to share.
Last fall was our first PDF, and we knew no one going in. We ended up camping next to the Fungus Amongus folks, and really enjoyed the vibe. Loud conversation at all hours of the night didn't bother us, but the thumping bass from the music camps did.
So it sounds like "downstairs" suits our needs, except, and it's a big except, for being close to the sound camps. Our plan is to arrive on Friday, before noon.
Any suggestions? Is High Meadow the place to be? Is there somewhere in between? We have a large-ish tent and a screen house, and tend to over-pack, so we'll be hauling a full car-load if stuff in. -

Re: So where should we camp?
Wed, April 2, 2008 - 12:54 PMIf you continue down the road, past the North Crook where Sound Town is and towards the Hemlock Hole where Sin City is and in the general area approaching the members-only Big Bottom, the sound drop-off from Sound Town should be noticeable. That's generally the quietest place. It's probably a 5-8 minute casual walk from that area to Sound Town, and you can find paths that take you back up the hill towards the Stone Circle and High Meadow. But the area along the road in between Sound Town and the Big Bottom is also nice. Camp in the area between the road and the stream if you want to be set back from the road and the foot traffic, or on the opposite side where, due to topography, you will be right on the road.
Another suggestion is along the road on its west side, across from the drum circle and prior to the kitchen. This area is grass-covered and slopes away from the road... then the treeline starts and the slope increases as the hill descends to the "downstairs" area. This area will probably see a ton of foot traffic as people make their way between upstairs and down, but might be quiet enough, yet central. I don't know if any theme camps are planning on setting up there, though. That area is also roughly equidistant from the two new toilet/bath structures.
Here's a map if you haven't found it already:

Re: So where should we camp?
Thu, April 3, 2008 - 5:28 AMIf your coming in early the high meadow offers some really nice shady spots also. But they probably will get taken with early arrivals. You would have plenty of neighbors and be well away of the thumping bass. If you plan on attending on set up weekend to help out, you could probably pick a spot and just leave your tent in place. Please post your location, I do want to meet you. -

Mon, April 21, 2008 - 12:42 PMI'm coming with my fiance Marisa. Last year was our first Burning Man, but we've been going to the Gaian Mind festival at Four Quarters for years but won't be able to make it this year because of a friend's wedding, so this is a perfect opportunity to enjoy the space with a Burner vibe! ;) -

Re: So who's all going?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 12:49 PMOh yeah, something you might want to be aware of is poison ivy. 2 years ago I put my tent right into the middle of a patch of it, not worrying since I had never had a problem with it before. Well this time I did! I had it so bad I had to be put on steroids for a week. So just be aware of what you're standing in.
