New fella...

Greetings all.
I've never been to any type of burner event, but they really do seem interesting. I'd like to attend Wickerman as it's a very reasonable distance from me, but I just found out about it. Also, my wife is having surgery earlier that week, I may not be able to come if I'm needed at home. Provided she's okay, she's fine with me going for a few days.
Speculation/questions.
Let's say I can attend Fri-Mon. Would decide at the last minute, slap my camping gear & kilted self in the car and go. The gate registration fee is not a problem.
But... I'm coming solo, do many people do that?
I have nothing to contribute but my open mind and sunny disposition, does this matter?
What else should I consider?

Thanks in advance,
Curious Corvus

    May your wife recover nicely.

You wouldn't be the only person coming solo, or coming at the last moment without a clear sense of having ART to contribute.
And you sound like someone who can bring Participation! and Enjoyment of other people's expressive offerings! and maybe even some spontaneous creativity of the unexpected kind.
    Suggestion:
Bring food. And if you load up on large quantities of something that you can share, and share it freely and offer it to those who seem like they might want some, then you'll be "That guy with the (whatever)", instant place in the tribe...

      right on aase!!!!!

      she's absolutley correct!

you will find your place in the tribe, and create memories to bring home to your wife for sure!!!! some folks come without a group, without a theme camp... then they will leave having shared of themselves and with the realization that strangers can get along and be a community!

so, ya, bring yourself and perhaps a little something to share (drink, food, song, stories, stickers, whatev!) and be a part of something new and BIG!!!

      see ya there!

blessings for a sweet recovery for your wife and the hopes of meeting her next year!!

Thanks for the well-wishes for my sweetie, J., and for your advice/encouragement to attend.

If J. is up to taking care of herself, she will likely send me packing off to Wickerman!

Stuff to share, I can do that. Will have to work out edzakly what, but I can bring something others will enjoy.
        I bake a mean brownie, (special and non-special) that's a distinct possibility.

I would like a new audience for some of my stories, they are usually good for a laff or two.

<<And you sound like someone who can bring Participation! and Enjoyment of other people's expressive offerings! and maybe even some spontaneous creativity of the unexpected kind. >>

That's what I mostly had in mind!

        Thanks again!

    Hey there Corvus,

I have never been to one myself but am excited to see what this is all about. I have a theme camp going with a couple of friends. You'll have to stop on by and say hi at the Pastafarian Camp! I guess we are considered Virgin Burners?? :)

No matter what, I feel like the fact that you are willing to see what this is all about as well as participate in a way you feel you can, is awesome! I really hope your wife's surgery is super successful and that she recovers quickly...:)
