Hello everyone,
I just put in a call to the Bedford County PA Dept of Health and talked to a nice Nurse there. She said I was the first person she has heard from about this incident. She is going to call me back on Monday to discuss things further. She asked that I compile a list for her of different cases. I am going to email them to her on Monday, and hopefully we can get a confirmation on exactly what this was.

She asked for peoples age, date you got to the festival, when your symptoms started and what your symptoms were, also anyone that went to the Dr. and had a stool sample taken (this will greatly help in determining the cause, and she would be thankful if you could share this information with her).

If you want to talk to her or just need someone to talk about this please call her:
Her name is Debbie Sechrist - her # is 814-623-2001 and she also informed Bonnie Krampy her # 717-787-8092 in Harrisburg about the ordeal as well.

She might not be in the office until Monday, but you can give her a try, or contact me and I can forward your information along with the email I am sending on Monday, or give you her email address.

Thanks, I will keep everyone informed of what I hear. Hope everyone feels better real soon :)
some nausea, some diarrhea, but the biggest pain
I greatly enjoyed interacting with many of you around the heartbeat at Earth Beat camp. The original version of the heartbeat was created by a friend. It was on the playa in 07. We’ll have it on the playa again this year and I have one installed in VA. Yay – I love the idea of playa art multiplying out in the world.
If you’re willing to share experiences you had around the heartbeat at Wickerman, I’d love to hear any stories. You can respond to me directly if you’re not one to post. I’d like to pass on some words to the original artist.

My friend and tag team partner, Tom, got blood work done after feeling weak for about 3 weeks after Wicker Man. He was startled to find that not only had he contracted mononucleosis, but picked up Lyme's Disease from an unapparent tick bite. He's doing relatively fine . . . for someone with Lyme's disease and mono, but those who go untreated for much longer may not be. If you suspect something hasn't been quite right with your body since Wicker Man, I highly suggest you visit your friendly neighborhood general practitioner and get blood work done as well.

Dear Fellow Burners,

I spent most of my time on 4Quarters land in fear of harassment from the staff members. I was physically assaulted, threatened, and had many other camp members threatened into submission by 4quarters staff. They have NO respect for the autonomy of women and no respect for Burning Man as a separate culture from their own. I was told MANY times that THIS IS NOT BURNING MAN, You're Guests on OUR land you have to follow OUR rules.

I have been to Burning Man (twice), Singularity (NV), Lighting in a Bottle - CA (twice), Transformus (SC), and PDF (twice) I have a good idea what a burn should be. TOLERANT! The Burner community is about radical inclusion and individuality! NOT threatening people into submission!

The way that they treated me and many others is INHUMANE! I write this letter and ask others to post their similar experiences so that no one else in our community will have to experience the horrible treatment that I received from the staff of 4 Quarters Farm.

My story of harassment, physical aggression, threats and intolerance, this is why I will never go back to 4 Quarters Farm:

I arrived at 4 Quarters Farm thrilled to find an escape from PDF and ready to set up an AMAZING theme camp! We had rented a Uhaul and filled it with lights, sound equipment, a full bar, smoke machines, decorations and everything else we could think of to have a killer party!

Upon arrival I was surprised not to meet any greeters (burners), but only the staff of 4qf, who seemed less than thrilled that we had brought all of this equipment. They had apparently misunderstood our completely blatant, and colorful email "a sea of writhing bodies, dancing all night to nasty beats in front of two twenty foot projection screens" and did not put us in sound town.

According to their reactions to us which were intense and unnecessarily aggressive they seemed to think their mistake was our fault. We were willing to work with them but would not agree not to play music. (Their requirement was that our music be no louder than our generator!?)

Friday night some great news came! Michael and Andrea (our liaisons) came down as we were setting up for the evenings festivities and said " Disregard everything you've heard up until this point. The woman (member) who was camping near here who was the problem has gone for the weekend. So have fun and do whatever you want."

And we did. We played music all night until about 4 and then turned it down to chill down-tempo music. (it was a great party!)

The harassment progressed from there.

First thing in the morning (as though someone was watching from the trees to see when we woke up), the croanies of 4qf rolled back into our camp shouting at us.
James (the "enforcer" thug with bone through his nose) was pointing his finger in a camp-member's face and yelling that we had disregarded their wishes and that we didn't listen to them last night!

When I tried to explain what we were told the previous night he reacted with physical aggression and more yelling.

After twenty minutes of this, two camp members in tears and the rest fearing their safety the "enforcers" finally left us alone.

On the way to the burn Saturday night everything seemed to be coming together, Monkee our dj had arrived! The rest of our camp who had been stuck in the traffic jam that morning arrived...

I was walking over to watch my friends spinning in the fire conclave before the burn when I was grabbed roughly by the arm.

"Are you in the fire conclave!?" barked Orren.

I pulled my arm out of his grip and responded "I was asked to be in it, but I decided not to spin tonight" and tried to continue walking.

He grabbed my hoops and yanked them pulling me closer to him and grabbed my arm again and began dragging me away from the conclave.

The whole time I was trying to pull free James (the thug) was yelling personal insults at me.

Yelling at him and trying to pull away I finally splashed him with my champagne, and he released me and my hoops.

Crying I ran over to my camp mates..

I did not even see the burn because I was so upset about the way I had been treated, I spent the whole thing crying in my tent alone.

After calming down I walked back to the burn area as it was concluding where my boyfriend and I were cut off my James and Kate who said.

"Take your dog home!" (about me) "She threw a drink at the head of our church, you have two hours to vacate the premises or we'll escort you off by force."
*(I'm certainly glad I'm not a part of a "church" who treats women that way.)*

We went back to our camp and lay down to sleep. (We were drunk and it was pitch black and we had and ENTIRE Uhaul to pack up, so there was no way it was going to happen that night)

We were roused from our tent by James, the really nasty balding guy with long blonde hair in the back and none on top, and Andrea yelling at our camp mates that we had two hours to leave or the police would be called.

Finally we came out of the tent and requested that they call the police. Someone who might actually treat us like humans and restrain the staff members from any further violence. They refused and said that we could stay until the morning.

At this point Andrea said "so how do we get the generator on, lets get the lights going and have some fun." NO WAY. That is our generator and Our lights!

When we woke up Michael and Andrea were sitting in our camp regaling my camp members with THEIR new and improved story of what had happened the previous nights. Conveniently forgetting to include the parts above highlighted in pink.

We come out of our tent, are consoled by our friends and others who have heard rumor of our treatment, and begin packing. Within an hour there were four Porn&Eggs members in our camp and 8-10 4q staff members standing menacingly watching us.

At one point Andrea began throwing chairs around the camp and throwing someone else's hoops at my pile of hoops.

After a few hours of packing I needed to use the ladies room so I asked a couple male camp members to escort me because I didn't feel safe going alone, I was right.

Two of their enforcers (one male one female) followed us demanding to know where we were going.

"the bathroom" I responded.

"Oh, no you're not! You can go piss in the woods, You're not going ANYWHERE"

"No, I am going to use the bathroom!"

Finally I was allowed, but I was only allowed the use of a port-a-potty (not the flushing toilets just a little farther)

AND

This man (The long blonde haired balding one) stood out side the bathroom door yelling at my camp mates.

Crying, and feeling terribly violated, I returned to camp and continued packing.

An hour or so later my boyfriend stopped packing to take a drink and talk to a camp member about what to do with some camp gear when we leave and James (bone-thug)
steps in between them about three inches from his face and

yells, "what the fuck are you doing!? there's no talking, keep packing!"

He responded "I'm taking a break"

"Hell no you're not, you're packing and leaving, get moving!"

At this point the blonde balding guy starts yelling at him too. They're both in his face yelling.

He asks "what are you going to do, call the police?"

"No, we don't need the police to deal with you, we'll take care of you ourselves"

When one of our female camp members interjected "You don't need to talk to him like that"

They turned on her put a hand out in her face and yelled "shut up missy, I'm not talking to you!"

"Well," She responded "I'm talking to you!"

"You're going to have to leave next if you don't shut the fuck up!"

Finally we've finished packing and our camp helped us load up the truck. We drove it up to pick up my car in the parking lot and headed out.

They followed my car far beyond the Four Quarters Sign, all the way to the concrete road and finally we were free.

I felt such a release of tension as I drove away from this beautiful land. I left 4 Quarters Farm in fear for my safety and as beautiful as the land is the people who run it are equally awful.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Yep, I think there was plenty of "magic dust". I know as I started unpacking my gear I shook a little off onto the land. I think that maybe a few others must have distibuted a little magic playa dust there too.
Here are some of my magic examples.
1. The day before I left for Wicker Man I got a great deal on an Awesome golf cart. Of course, magic must have been involved.
2. Seeing the "magic" on Pinky and Phade's faces when they returned the cart to me...the Sunday afternoon that I gifted it to them.
3. Progress Darrell "magically" shining in his royal attire on burn nite.
4. Seeing and hanging with "family" You know who you are !!
5. The art and artists'. You all totally blow my mind with your magic.
6. Feeling the "magic" as I saw the mushrooms all lit up.
7. The "magic" of community that fed me when I was sooo sooo hungry.
8. The "dust" did its part in keeping the power grid up under full load.
9. The incredible conclave and burn. How magical was that !!
10. The "magic" of free coffee and noodles just when I needed them.
11. The "magic" of soo many new friends.
12. The "fairy magic" that my neighbors gifted me.
13. The "magic" of fresh homemade bread. Still warm from the oven !! Wow !!
14. The magical stream of smiles and hugs that never seemed to end.
15. The "magic" of nature and all of it's beauty.
16. The "magic" of hearing people say, Welcome Home!!
17. The magical feeling of being free.
18. The magic of having exactly enough Fire Conclave badges.

Yes, there was plenty of magic playa dust all around. It was on the land, in the air and on the people. What a great event !! Thanks to everyone that made it so very special.

The Wine Man

It's time to seek out those that are interested in Fire Performing, Fire Dancing, and those special behind the scene peps that keep it all safe and organized, the Fire Safety Crew.

Having been a participant in the Inner Circle at Burning Man and at other burns, I can tell you that it is truly an honor and a priviledge. A real gift of sharing to the community. So if your headed to Wicker Man and are interested in being a special part of the burn event this is a great way to participate.

I am looking for a head count. So shout out if your are ready to strut your stuff as an experienced and talented Fire Performer or Fire Dancer or if your are interested in participating on our Fire Safeties Crew. No worries, for those that have interest but are not quite ready to perform, your help is needed as a Fire Safety. And yes, for those with no experience as a Fire Safety, we will teach you !!

There will be a mandatory coordination meeting for those that are interested in participating which will provide all the details, as well as training for Fire Safeties on Saturday @ 2:00pm. At this meeting you will recieve your placard pass which will allow you access and the honor to be in Wicker Man's "Inner Circle".

The meeting will be held at the Dining Hall Tent. This is the large shade tent about half way down the hill on the left side, across from the kitchen.

Your friendly Fire Conclave Coordinator, the Wine Man

Here's a bunch of random sweet things I experienced:

*Looking up from reading the directions from how to assemble a garage-tent, and seeing a car that looked like an aquarium drive past our site...

*Sitting down for coffee on a mushroom bench wearing silk pyjamas, and realizing that above my head it says:
Q: What are you growing in your life?
A: Giant purple pickle penis!

*Getting to dance with half naked Easter Island monsters

*Helping my friend get the smelly but sweet and loving stray dog some water and food and rest, and then finding the contact information for its owner on a flyer at the Belle Grove.

*Walking into Porn and Eggs Friday night while POUR SOME SUGAR ON ME was blaring. And later in the night, when the generator died, two drummers and a flautist keeping the beat going true and sweet!

*The silence that fell across the land the first moment we heard the voice booming I AM THE WICKER MAN...

*Raiding Em's on Saturday afternoon because my clothes were wet and being mostly naked made me cold... and finding a GORGEOUS outfit!

*Vocal jamming with a guy who could do a spot-on impression of a didgeridoo.

*The Man burning, with fireworks and all!

There is SO MUCH MORE... This list doesn't even begin to scratch the surface, but it's a beginning all the same, of an attempt to document the random wonderfulness in words. You beautiful creative people have filled my little head and mind to the brim with stimulus. Seriously... My brain was on experience and sensation overload this weekend, my dreams have been filled with fire spinners and girls in elephant clothing, internally glowing coats, folks in fedoras, hair with personality, awesome head dresses...
I NEEDED THIS!

So I ask you all:
What do YOU remember? What are some of YOUR sweet moments? Please share!

4qf is situated well away from major sources of light pollution, under skies which rate a borderline Class 3 to 4 darkness on the Bortle scale. For those of us who live under less ideal skies, being at 4qf provides a great opportunity to clearly see deep sky objects that would otherwise be hard or impossible to find in our own suburban or city back yards. Nebulae, galaxies, and star clusters abound.

If you're a regular stargazer, consider bringing your telescope(s) with you... even if you have one but don't know how to use it, I or someone can give assistance or advice. If you just want to look, you're welcome to stop by, too!

I'm proposing a WMB Star Party on saturday evening/night in the grassy area in the area between the may pole and the stage, across the road from the Stone Circle. This area has good East-zenith-West views of the sky, however the ecliptic plane may be hidden behind trees. Later on, if more unobstructed northern and southern skies are desired, we can toss our gear in the back of my car and motor up to the main parking area (labeled as "The Playa" on the 4qf map[1]) and gain excellent views there.
Please write to purecreativespace@gmail.com to reserve your space in the mayhem.. if we don't know you please include a brief description of yourself.. who you are.. what you do.. burning experience..

and everyone please include what you're bringing/contributing to the camp..

Since Porn & Eggs is usually only a Burning Man camp (this is our first appearance at a regional burn) all of our party supplies are in storage in Nevada so we're going to need your help to make this as naughty and fun as it always is!
We have a lot of opportunities to contribute :gear / party supplies (liquor, eggs, porn, dj talent, capitol (we will be asking for some donations if you don't have something specific you're bringing from our list of camp needs!!)

so PLEASE get in touch and we'll discuss what you sinners can do to help us continue the legacy of P&E.
I've never been to any type of burner event, but they really do seem interesting. I'd like to attend Wickerman as it's a very reasonable distance from me, but I just found out about it. Also, my wife is having surgery earlier that week, I may not be able to come if I'm needed at home. Provided she's okay, she's fine with me going for a few days.
Speculation/questions.
Let's say I can attend Fri-Mon. Would decide at the last minute, slap my camping gear & kilted self in the car and go. The gate registration fee is not a problem.
But... I'm coming solo, do many people do that?
I have nothing to contribute but my open mind and sunny disposition, does this matter?
What else should I consider?

(Unfortunately, I have something in Pittsburgh that I have to be at Friday night, so I will be gone until sometime Saturday morning / afternoon). The whole thing is very short, and should take no more than about 5 minutes, plus a little if you want to do some singing. Ideally, the person we need should:

-be Jewish
-be male (though this is optional, but our Priestess is female, so it would help for symmetry)
-Know the standard Jewish prayers over candles, wine and bread
-Be able to lead people in a song afterwards (I suggest L'Cha Dodi or Shalom Rav, but any Shabbat song will do)

The ritual is at http://mastros.biz/a23/smoke-fire/sabbath.rtf , if you'd like a look at it. Please let me know if you're interested.

just thought i'd let everyone know that registration is open. we are not using tickets. you simply register, and get a wrist band when you get there. i think there may be a commerative laminated ticket-type thingy too, not sure.

so, if you are ready to get registered, go to: http://www.wickermanburning.org/_Reg/index.htm

there are many "levels" to register with, depending on when you can make the actual financial commitment.

so check it out, and get registered!

Does anyone know if Wickerman is still accepting applications for arts grants? I sent an email to the Wickerman address, listed on the website, but haven't received a reply. If anyone knows about available arts funding for the event, please contact me.

I'd like to bring a large-scale installation fire sculpture to the event. If such is not possible, I'll probably make other plans for that weekend, as lately, I feel a strong need to be doing something more meaningful than just partying and hanging out.

Thanks!

Four Quarters Farm is 100 miles from the DC/Baltimore beltways. If you've been out to Western Maryland and driven through the Sidling Hill road cut (a geological delight of exposed folded rock) the hill is named after nearby Sidling Creek, which wraps around 4QF on three sides.

Four Quarters Farm has:
* hot showers in multiple locations
* nice bathrooms (rather than porta-johns)
* piped water throughout camp
* electricity so sound camps won't need to bring generators
* a stream with swimming holes surrounding the venue on 3 sides
* few flying bugs
* TREES to camp among as well as sunny spots
* a road loop for art cars
* some areas are flat, some are hilly (just like Transformus)
* there's already a designated area for "adult" camps (Sin City) that has been used for other events and has the best swimming hole just adjacent
* sound problems SOLVED: If you've heard of Gaian Mind -- www.gaian-mind.com -- a popular psytrance festival, this is the place where it happens (and there's another swimming hole by Sound Town)

Finally, word is that Wicker Man Burning will have one of the most impressive effigies outside of Burning Man, planned at 40' tall and with various unique and atypical features.

As of this writing the web site is still under construction, but you can peek at it at www.wickermanburning.org . Wicker Man Burning 2008 tickets will apparently not go on sale 'til after Spring PDFs tickets are selling or sold (or something) to minimize competition.
