Imagery perspective

Dance imagery can take 2 views:

* internal
* external

an internal perspective refers to a dancer seeing the imagined performance through his/her own eyes,as if actually performing.

An external perspective involves dancers seeing the imagined performance from outside their body,as if they were watching the performance on video.
It was initially believed that the internal perspective was better for several reasons.

* it would be easier to imagine the total performance because the diverse components are experianced internally.
* since the perspective during performance is internal,the internal imagery should be more realistic,and easier to create.
* since dancers actually perform from an internal perspective,using external imagery involves a frame of referance that is unfamilier,in fact research shows that successful performers were more likely to use dance internal dance imagery than less successful performers and that internal imagery resulted in more vivid images and better performance than external imagery.

However,other research has demonstrated no differences in imagery quality or performance between perspectives.
so whatever comes naturally for you,is what you should work with.

both sides has its benefits,even using both internal and external imagery will be very useful to a dancer.
