Just an FYI - save the date note. Next years dates will be June 4th - 7th and Sept 17th - 20th. These are not 100% locked in, but are pretty close to that. Please post large event conflicts if you know of any. Please don't post personal conflicts if they only apply to you (this could be a really big thread).

Re: Next Year's Dates
Wed, October 7, 2009 - 11:36 AMThe only potential conflict I see is with Burning Man recovery. It ends September 6th, so that gives people 10 days to get home and repacked before WF. I also don't know if the Boston Burn truck usually unloads on that day, but I know a good number of WF'ers used it this time, so there camping/fire equipment wouldn't even be back in time for WF. I assume the same holds true for some others.

Re: Next Year's Dates
Wed, October 7, 2009 - 1:12 PMyeah, I'm pretty sure the Burning Truck unload will be on that September weekend (dates for the Burn are 31 Aug - 7 Sept; the truck unload usually happens the second Saturday after the event ends). I know I'd much rather be at WF than unloading my dusty shit from a shipping container, but I won't have a choice -- and I'm sure I won't be the only one. -

Re: Next Year's Dates
Wed, October 7, 2009 - 2:34 PM10 days after the burn could be difficult for burners who travel farther distances as well.
I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota and I drive all the way to BRC by vehicle and then back again. As soon as I'd get home I would have to helter skelter to get ready for Wildfire and hit the road asap to make it to Wildfire.
However, I must say, I love the earlier date which will bring nice warm weather rather than the October ones have (even though this session was actually rather pleasant!)
Also, it really isn't that big of a deal. I know I could personally pull off doing Wildfire right after Burning Man as a vendor (and I drive 22 hours to get to Wildfire!), so why couldn't other people?
I want to add that the earlier June date that doesn't conflict with summer solstice (which is June 21st for 2010) is pretty great as well!
These dates are looking pretty good to me right now! Can't wait for more Wildfire!!!

Re: Next Year's Dates
Thu, October 8, 2009 - 3:41 PMOkay, so I can't read... but I was only off by a day. BM 2010 runs 30 Aug - 6 Sept. -- the truck unload will certainly still be that same weekend.

Re: Next Year's Dates
Thu, October 8, 2009 - 5:35 AMFor anyone that works in education or is in school, both dates are at the tip of semesters, one being very close to the beginning, the other being right at the end. It would help if the dates were delayed by two weeks or so school would be running smoothly in sept., or finished in June. -

Re: Next Year's Dates
Sat, November 28, 2009 - 5:35 PMThe first two weeks of college is usually the time classes are added or dropped, and some schools start later than September 1st. WF should be at *least* three or four weeks after the beginning of September...the dates this year were perfect, actually. ALthough my friends [and thus I] had to head back early because of the first wave of tests.

Re: Next Year's Dates
Thu, October 8, 2009 - 5:55 PMTeacher/Educator type people, could you provide clarification:
Would these two dates make going:
a) impossible
b) restrictive (would have to arrive later/leave early)
c) difficult (could attend the whole time, but would have to pull strings/ask favors)
Wildfire has grown huge, so it's going to be a "least injurious" situation instead of "everyone happy" no matter what dates we choose.
Also, answer separately for both spring and fall so we have an idea of the severity. -

Re: Next Year's Dates
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 7:07 AMI actually find the june condusive for education... at least for public school teachers. Having wildfire at the end of june would be hard for school teachers because thats when the k-12 year ends, and it is harder to get away due to grading and all that sort of stuff that accompanies the end of the year.
as far as september, yes, it will make it more difficult because the first few weeks of the year are really jam packed and chaotic.
just my two senses -

Re: Next Year's Dates
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 7:42 AMGlad I jumped on since I'm never on Tribe anymore.
Chad we Jewified you to avoid scheduling Wildfire on a high holiday again. September 17-18 is Yom Kippur. Be a good Jew now!

Re: Next Year's Dates
Sat, November 28, 2009 - 5:41 PMFor college students:
Beginning of term: restrictive, many people left before Monday
End of term: ehh, depends on if you have an internship that starts around then or not. End of term is usually over by mid-May, late May for many others, so beginning of June is fine. However, for teachers in colleges or pre-college I can see it being a problem, although not impossible.

Re: Next Year's Dates
Mon, October 12, 2009 - 10:54 PMI think that weekend is right around the end of term/graduation for most schools. Having it be later would probably be better for most students.

Re: Next Year's Dates
Thu, October 29, 2009 - 12:51 AMI actually enjoyed the start of Oct. dates. It was not to cold and not to hot, well OK wet, but this whole season has been wet. I know this is not a conflict of any others and yes I do have an event for that weekend, but that is not any ones else problem, but like I said I think the start of Oct is the best. Just my 2 cents -

Re: Next Year's Dates
Thu, October 29, 2009 - 4:31 PMThis last Wildfire, although nowhere near as bad as the previous fall's, still made me uncomfortably cold on more than one occasion. I think warmer is better. I recall the last fall Wildfire when it was in September being really nice.

Re: Next Year's Dates
Mon, November 2, 2009 - 4:26 PMBig Pagan gatherings are Memorial Day (Rites of Spring - 5/31) weekend & Columbus Day (Twilight Covening - 10/11) weekend, so those dates work fine. I can see the Yom Kippur issue as being a bit of a problem for many, but at least it doesn't fall on Talk Like a Pirate Day like it did this past year...
