Understanding Women and Islampublic - created 04/11/07 |

Muslim women, living in the West and actively participating in their neighborhoods, communities, and society, encounter many opinions, ideas, perspectives, misconceptions, and feelings about who they are, about what a Muslim woman is.
A Muslim woman is valued by Islam, by her society, her family, and her friends. She can be intelligent, cultured, educated, compassionate, hard-working, trustworthy, inspiring, enlightened, powerful and strong, and be devout to her place in Islam. To a Muslim woman, those qualities are all harmonious with Islam and the essence of the Muslim woman. Yet there are sincere people ,who do not know a Muslim woman personally, (and often, but not always, know nothing of Islam, the Holy Qur'an, or her culture), decide that the above qualities are contrary to Islam.
Why do Westerners choose to read books written by non-Muslims and ex-Muslims, to find out about Islam and women, rather than asking the Muslim women themselves? Or other primary sources, like the Qur'an and about the Sunnah? If one wants to know what someone believes, why don't they just ask them? Here is a place to ask.

A note to Muslim tribe members, your statements, answers, or replies in regard to Islam are encouraged to included daleel. We do not want to share bidah or innovation of our own into what is truly Islam.
We are from many backgrounds, many ideas, many beliefs. Allah says he has given the races and nations of the earth to us as a sign of His greatness.
