    <title>Tahitian Dance Workshop in Berkeley, California!</title>

    <summary type="html">&lt;div&gt;In celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, the Mahea Uchiyama Center for International Dance is hosting a workshop in Ori Tahiti, the dance of Tahiti.  This  introductory workshop features Ori technique (including hip isolations, footwork, and gestures), live drumming, as well as instruction in ‘ote‘a (a dance routine performed to the accompaniment of Tahitian drums).

&lt;br/&gt;Ever been curious about Balinese dancing? Djembe drumming? Middle Eastern dance?
&lt;br/&gt;Do you have friends who are interested in learning how to hula and ori?

&lt;br/&gt;We are about to launch a new session of introductory classes in music and dance!
&lt;br/&gt; 
&lt;br/&gt;To celebrate, we are having an evening of  FREE  performance and instruction on Friday, February 1st at the Mahea Uchiyama Center for International Dance:

&lt;br/&gt;"A Walk by the Sea" is on the list of nominees for the 11th Annual Hawai'i Music Awards in the category of World Music.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The Hawai'i Music Awards are a yearly contest held at the beginning of the year that recognizes artists and musicians living in Hawai'i, Hawaiian and Polynesian musicians living anywhere in the world, and international artists who perform Hawaiian or Polynesian-style music. These artists are eligible to compete if they have released commercially-available music of any style the previous calendar year. Winners are determined by online voting from a public audience around the world.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;It is possible to vote daily, one vote per day per person, for the duration of the voting period.
&lt;br/&gt;

&lt;br/&gt;How did you come here?

&lt;br/&gt;These are the questions at the heart of "A Walk by the Sea", the concert and the CD by Mahealani Uchiyama. We will offer a special concert version of "A Walk by the Sea" at Oakland’s Regents' Theater on the campus of Holy Names University.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Dance, music, story telling, ceremony and celebration featuring multi-cultural performances from the Pacific Islands, Native America, Africa and India.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The concert also coincides with Mahea's 50th birthday celebration!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;A "Walk by the Sea" was last performed on Saturday, September 23rd,  2006 to a standing ovation at the Julia Morgan Center for the Arts.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;This will be the final performance of "A Walk by the Sea".

    <summary type="html">&lt;div&gt;The season of Makahiki is upon us!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The purpose of Makahiki is to celebrate the traditional Hawaiian New Year with chants, protocols, ho`okupu, and sharing. It is open to all `ohana, individuals, halau, and hui. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;However, if you are interested in participating, you must attend an orientation session to learn the protocol and chants.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Halau KaUaTuahine will have an orientation session on Thursday evening, October 11th at 7:00PM.  The session will take place at the Center for International Dance, 
&lt;br/&gt;729 Heinz Avenue in Berkeley.
