Tribal fusion belly dance classes at University of North Carolina at Charlotte and World Dance Center.

UNCC Classes: See the Student Activity Center schedule for the current term. UNCC students and staff only.

World Dance Center Classes: 3116-F Milton Road, Charlotte. 7:15 p.m., Thursdays.

About the classes
Class time is divided between basic belly dance technique drills, and combinations for dancing in group improvisational style. While American Tribal Style (ATS) serves as a foundation and inspiration, we drill movements on both sides of the body, and learn additional formations and combinations that expand on the basic mechanics of ATS.

About the instructor
I have been belly dancing since 2000. I started out taking classes in traditional Egyptian and folkloric belly dance, but was truly inspired when I discovered tribal style. I've taken workshops with many of the innovators in modern American belly dance -- Carolena Nericcio of Fat Chance Belly Dance; Jill Parker of Ultra Gypsy; Rachel Brice and Zoe Jakes; Zafira Dance Company; Ziah Ali of Awalim, and many more. I taught my first classes in 2004 at Center of Dance in Blacksburg, VA and at Virginia Tech. I recently started teaching in Charlotte.
