This disturbs me . . . Caution: Words from a christian holiday card
Caution- words from a Christian card below in quotes
Being _uc_ed by media.
Spirituality and religion are independent measures.
I received a holiday card –
The card reads:
“Jesus humbled himself. He went from commanding angels to sleeping in the straw. From holding stars To Clutching Mary’s Finger. The palm that helped the universe took the nail of a soldier. Why Because that’s what Love does.”- Max Lucado
Okay that was on the opening page.
It is A time of war –
My limited wisdom about Jesus, is that he was a physically passive, compassionate, and a ripple of oneness.
“He (Jesus) went from commanding angels . . .” commanding angels? Commanding? There are beautiful words of service to the people, and of the people’s service to an enlightened being; Commanding feels, to me, like a military word- in this context the angels then become the soldiers serving in the war.
“From holding starts . . .”
. . . hey, people who serve in the military get “stars” – badges of honor?
“Clutching Mary’s Finger” – boy this is morbid, like dying on the battle field - clutching your fellow soldier's finger as you melt away. . .
“the palm”- now that’s yours – the fallen soldier’s palm. . . Oh the imagery.
“ . . . helped the universe took the nail of a soldier. " ☁; – what?
Nail in the coffin – coffin of the soldier?
And why had Jesus commanded the angels to death? Oh yes out of love – cause you know “. . .that’s what love does.”
Wow this is a whole new Jesus!
Oh but wait- it goes on-
Open the card and On the back of the first page reads:
“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us.” -1John 3:16 NIV
“This is how we know”?- Jesus did it . . . you know “laid His life down for us” – like . . . a soldier would do for his country? –
( I must admit, I am not well educated about the words or stories in the bible(s) -and do not feel they are my path. I have heard of Jesus yet, never in this language style)
Am I totally jaded or a fox with a sharp perspective?
maybe a little of both.
