Folks,
Many of you know that on Friday night at the great WRFL alum dinner set up by Mark Tartar, Mark Beaty and I stood up and asked for donations to add to a stack of $$ we had been accumulating to give to the station for its $150k/$200k capital campaign for the new tower.
We walked into the restaurant with $4,500 in hand and thanks to the incredible generosity of the alums, walked onto the FreeKY Fest stage on Saturday night with $9,500 to stake the matching grant from the crowd. I just loved to see all the alum faces next to me on the stage and all the Lexington faces (some very recognizable) in the crowd, all celebrating the station.
The Kernel reports that the FreeKY Fest raised $14,000 total for the tower. We should be proud to be a major portion of that.
19 donors toted up to $9850. And, those donors have been asking me where to send checks.
Here's the answer:
Send your check to
Chuck Clenney
Radio Free Lexington
Box 777 University Station
Lexington, KY 40506-0025
Make the check payable to WRFL, with memo to Tower Fund.
I'll send individual e-mails to the donor list and the station with send IRS tax deduction letters to folks once their checks arrive.
Remember, if you work for a corporation that matches funds to nonprofits, this is a bona fide educational non-profit, an arm of the University of Kentucky and would qualify for a match. So fill out that corporate form to double or increase your impact.
If you want to give otherwise and like the online thing, you can go to the UK Alumni Association site, choose WRFL as the campus entity you want to receive your donation and give from the plastic. (This info appeared in a Monday Kernel article about the fest, so perhaps the general public will jump up to that.)
Goodness, thank you everyone for your generosity and for a wonderful weekend -- the best of my life. And it's been a long life.

Re: WRFL ALUMS RAISE $10K AT FREEKY FEST -- Donation Info
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 4:22 PMI think I might have to actually wander back down to the station to drop my check off (I didn't sign the list 'cause I never actually crossed paths with it), because they were out of my size of the 1989 AMW shirt at Freeky Fest, and I need to get one. -
