Who wants to dance at Onca's show?

Anyone up for dancing at Onca's show? It's Saturday, Oct 25 at the LaBelle Theater in South Charleston from 7-9 pm. It's a Halloween show, so costuming and music should fit the theme. With the time crunch, time only allows for seasoned dancers and it will be limited to troupes only, no solos. Teachers, if you have an intermediate class or a student troupe that you'd like to show off, they would be great. I intended to send many of you personal invites to perform, but time has gotten away from me and now I'm leaving on vacation in 3 days and I'm realizing I'm probably not going to get to that section of my to do list. I'll be back in town July 7. Yes, I'm silly enough to take my computer on vacation so I can check emails and tribe, so you'll see me posting back. Yeah, I know, I'm an idiot!

I wish I could say yes, but since classes haven't started yet, I don't know if they would want to.
Fortunately, classes start this Tuesday...I am so ready to dance with other people hahaha.
    Even if I don't bring a group...I WANNA COME!!!!!

Tribal Desires would like to. Although I've invited my Basic Level students to perform with us and in a student recital--I don't actually have a student troupe--so it will be a Tribal Desires Troupe performance.

And since several of my students read the WV Bellies, I'm going to take a moment to explain why they will not be asked to perform with us or as a student "troupe". I've recently learned (saw it first hand) that rehearsing Basic Level students for performances takes a lot of time from the students actually learning and improving on technique.

::smiling:: I have to admit, I had such a great teacher (Narah) and having been a part of her student troupe at one time, I know the level at which I'd like to see my student troupe perform when I officially create one.

        thank you Kali!! :)

I'm actually in the same boat- I do not currently have a student troupe. I am teaching a mixed level class where most have had at least a couple cycles of the basics, some have had several (one performed the choreography from the "basic choreography" class at my last hafla- May 06), one was a member of my former student troupe and one completed my fall basics cycle. though i hadn't planned on having them perform so soon, a student salon opportunity came up and we decided to go ahead and prepare for that. however, too much "life" (pretty big "life" stuff in a lot of cases) kept preventing people from coming to class. people really couldn't help it, and I took it as a sign we shoudn't do this one.

for me personally to have a student troupe, it would take a tremendous amount of availability on both sides. availability not only with time for students to practice technique and rehearse performance material, and for me to create and rehearse that material, but also mental energy for students to remain open to feedback and the kind of "self-work" that comes with dancing more and for me to deal with these mental and emotional issues as they come up. as the teacher/director, I need to know people are really ready and in a good mental space to dedicate themselves to the journey, not just the performance. and w/ a 15 month old, nature maakes sure that my "extra energy" (because w/ a baby, you are deeply engaged on a mental, emotional and physical level) is usually accounted for. :) plus, it will take time in the long term to see where people are at mentally/emotionally and for them to show that to me. I was excited that this class was interested in doing this student salon. it would give them a chance to just have some fun and use what they learned in a supportive environment, put on a costume and meet other student and teacher belly dancers. we're going to continue working on the material and take the next student opportunity when the time is right for everyone. it will be nice to go at a more relaxed and likely more effective pace.

so, while I was excited and jumped the gun saying I'd like to perform at Onca's workshop show, I re-read the perimeters and will have to say "Id like to, but we'll have to see.... see if my sister can dance w/ me if she and I become much more available?? :) "

I'm glad to see a few area troupes will be performing. I hate to leave out the solo dancers. Once I see how many troupes we'll have and how long the songs are, I might be able to squeeze in a solo or two. Pretty soon I'll post a list on the website of the troupes that will be performing, so please let me know what song you'll be doing as soon as you decide. I know we'll be doing Love Me Dead by Ludo but I'm not sure what else yet.

I know it's a long way away, but I'm getting excited. October will be here before we know it.
