copyright infringement problem

topic posted Wed, January 18, 2006 - 9:05 AM by  Nina
Hi Guys:
If you look at this website you will easily find my artwork that is "for sale."
dimitrid.multiply.com/

The owner of the site has alot of my artwork up on her site and is offering to sell prints of my artwork.

I contacted her and the owner of the domain site and haven't received a reply yet.
I have called Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts where I live and left a message.
This organization has helped me in the past and will doubtless do so again.
The lawyers in this organization work free of charge.

However, PLEASE look at the upper right hand corner at the image or avatar of dimitrid.
Does her avatar look familiar to you?

I think I have seen her avatar on tribe.
If you have seen it, please let me know and do NOT communicate with her directly because it would not be helpful.
Thank you.
:)

      I know.
Her face is very, very familiar.
      lol

I did a search of the url of her site and then did a search on www.whois.net and found out who owns the domain name.

Anyone can set up a site on www.multiply.com.
But, I already emailed the owner of the domain and haven't had a response yet.

I haven't done all I plan to do yet.
I am taking it one step at a time.

I just spoke to a law student at VLA, who is going to find out what my options are from a practicing lawyer and get back to me tomorrow.

      Thanks, Denise.
I found out about this by googling my name.
My name appears on quite a few pages.

        I'm so sorry, Nina.

Have you tried these people for help:

        www.artcc.org/home.html

spreli resurfaced today on ebay selling two of my pieces. I feel silly complaining about it with your dealing with this serious issue.

Thanks very much for the link, Laura.
          :)

I will call the owner of the domain tomorrow and see if I can get someplace.

I will try your link for help.
I hope I will hear from the lawyer tomorrow.

What is spreli's new user id on ebay, Laura?

It's amazing how these folk who get naru'd keep on returning with new user ids.

How many more paintings does spreli have of yours, Laura?

Nina, I am so sorry to hear about this. VLA has been quite helpful when I have contacted them in the past about a copyright infringement issue of my own. (They were not able to encourage me to act, as it was an international incident.)

I periodically google myself for the same reason.

            Please keep us posted.

Teresa (who does not like the new tribe setup!!!)

            Hi Nina,

He got himself reinstated under his old IDs: spreli and zpreli.

I believe he has five of mine. He is only listing two. He has at least one zen one. I don't remember the others.

              Teresa,

              Thank you.
I will keep you all updated.

              Laura,
So, there are only 3 more paintings to go and then you will not have to be concerned with him.

I didn't know that people who've been naru'd could have themselves reinstated.
I wonderful what these people have to do to become reinstated.
              Hmmmm.
Perhaps they pay greedbay a hefty fee to become reinstated?
              ;)

Nina, she does look familiar... have you found out anything?

Laura, sorry about this, I know two other people who are having it happen right now.

No fee to get reinstated - they have to convince the people who gave buyer no pay strikes to take them back. At least that's what happened with a suspended buyer who wrote me to get rid of a strike...
