Yasmine will teach July 18 from 100pm – 400pm
“Dynamic Duets” (3 Hours Total)
Duet combinations with Funky Fusion Flare taught by Yasmine assisted by Magic Hips Dancer, Huriyyah. Explore new ways to incorporate partner work into your routines whether it is for a Duet choreography or as part of a group performance. This class will cover some spicy yet mesmerizing partner combinations that will have you interacting with your dance partner and exploring a new dance connection. Don't have a dance partner to take the workshop with? No worries, we can pair you up with someone else in the class.

Linda will teach July 17, 2009 from 700pm-900pm and July 18 from 1000am- 1200noon
“Saiidi-Inspired Pop Choreography: How to create folkloric-inspired and other choreography”(4 hours total)

This is a great workshop set for all dance levels who want to get more out of their folkloric training, are choreographing for the first time, and/or seeking to teach their choreography more efficiently and effectively. Students will be able to take home a very upbeat pop choreography, new teaching/learning skills, as well as the tools to take their own choreographies to the next level.

Friday, July 17: Creating and teaching choreographies, using folkloric moves and styling with modern music, Saiidi moves, styling, and other technique, introduction to the choreography- framework and combinations. Students should bring pen and paper to take notes. Written choreography and some notes will be provided. There will be bouncing/hopping moves so please wear proper support! No props needed.

Saturday July 18: Applying the choreography framework: full choreography learned with emphasis on transitions. It is best if students take Friday if they want to keep up in Saturday's class. There will be no technique taught on Saturday's class, only choreography.

We have an informative afternoon covering the basics of Spanish gypsy flamenco & it's rhythm. You will learn floreo(hands), braseo(arms), and some taconeo(footwork). Hips are very important in flamenco especially in the gypsy tango to be taught. Class will include a short "barefoot flamenco" choreography so you can "say something" with your dance.

In this workshop, you will learn the proper hand/finger techniques to produce clean beautiful sounds from your doumbek. You will learn how to play several traditional Middle Eastern rhythms as well as how to switch between them.
This workshop is perfect for beginners or experienced drummers who want to brush up or clean up their technique.
This workshop is also fantastic for dancers who want to educate themselves about the basic rhythms.

You know a bunch of rhythms...now what? Let's get "Beyond Baladi". You will learn practical rhythm combinations useful for playing songs and making your drum circle more fun. Denys Proteau: At Southern Oasis 2008 Denys will run a general introductory hand drumming class. Participants may
also bring other percussion instruments such as tambourine, clave, zills, wooden spoons, etc. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring audio recording gadgets such as tape recorders, mp3 recorders, dictating recorders, or waxed cylinder recorders. Printed handouts will be available. We'll play a variety of listening and rhythm learning games, as well learn and practice new rhythms. Denys will offer his workshop on Saturday, March 8th from 10AM-12noon. Location: Joanie Lamb Hair Salon 720 Broad St Augusta, GA

Darbuka Dave: The Basics of Working With Dancers - We will cover the universal ways of communicating with dancers, useful for both choreographed and improvised performance. The class is suitable for all students who have at least a basic knowledge of technique, and beginners should expect to be challenged by the quick pace of the class. Dave will offer his workshop on Saturday, March 8th from 1230PM-230PM. Location: Joanie Lamb Hair Salon 720 Broad St Augusta, GA

Natalie Brown: Delirium Tribal improv combos. Move, trade places, turn, pose with Delirium Tribal's signature improvisational moves. Use in choreographies or your own brand of tribal improv. Ashley Bennett: This workshop will be focused, primarily, on stage presence and fluid motion - with a concentration on arm and hand movements. A certified yoga instructor, Ashley typically begins and ends each workshop with enough yoga to warm up the body to support flexibility, and then slow it down again to prevent aching and soreness for the "morning after." Ashley will offer her workshop on Saturday, March 8th from 1230PM-230PM. Location: Augusta Fencing Club 134 9th St Augusta, GA.

Alchemy: In this workshop, the emphasis will be on floorwork: toning and building the muscles necessary for safe, strong, and controlled floorwork, introducing new movement to your repertoire, and learning how to incorporate floorwork into improvisational performances for the solo or group dynamic. We will also cover the "no-nos", what to consider to keep your floorwork from devolving into a peep show, and how to comport yourself to best display your strength and mastery to the audience. All of this will be presented in the same lighthearted, safe, accepting atmosphere Alchemy is known for in its classes. So, come prepared for a workout, great information, but most of all come with questions and a smile! All levels welcome! Please bring knees pads or a yoga mat. Lauren Prince: African Dance Workshop-Come and take part in this foot-tapping, arm-swinging, hair flying workshop! This African Dance workshop will surely move your feet and make you sweat! Many of the dances are from West Africa and therefore has very fast and energetic beats. This workshop will teach the basics of West African dance but it will definitely give a good and high-energy workout. Following the teaching of the basics, will be choreography. Fabulous Show and Dinner!

The last Sunday of the month don't miss Yasmine performing at Sofram's Turkish Cuisine Restaurant. To have the opportunity to watch Yasmine dance is such a wonderful treat. She did one long set last night starting at 7:00pm. It was such a joy! And then to enjoy a wonderful meal, good wine and time with friends was icing on the cake! Private Lessons with Yasmine

Last night I had my first private lesson with Yasmine. She is awesome! I needed to go over the cane dance for the recital and I wanted her to critique my solo. She gave me some great suggestions on arm placement and a few steps. But most of all she gave me encouragement and support. I can't express how much it meant to me and how it has given me a boost on how I feel about my dancing abilities.

I've been on tribe for awhile and I read the posts that both teachers and students write and I really feel sad for those who do not have a supportive and truly caring teacher/mentor.

Thank you Yasmine for your kind words, your honesty, your support and your friendship.
