Isolations and Layering- Hot Diggady!
class time: 12:30pm- 3:00pm

Ever feel as though your learning curve has reached a plateau? This workshop is a rousing motivational tool to enhance one’s personal practice. Mira will begin with a thorough breakdown of basic isolations and will gradually increase into multiple layering designed to bewilder the brain and electrify the body. Add spice to your dance, take a step to the next level, this workshop is an asset to any dancer. All levels welcome to the party!
class fee: $50 (by June 30th, $60 after)

Sunday, July 6th- Liz Strong Workshop
TURKISH ROMAN FUSION:
class time: 12:00noon- 2:30pm
The more you know, the more confidently you will express your unique voice. Expand your dance vocabulary, and explore the energizing 9/8 rhythm! Learn the dance in its true
form, and then fuse it to other dance elements. Turkish Rom dance is richly expressive and playful, passionate and fun. Students will dance the pure formto traditional music in 9/8 time signature. Then we will use non-traditional music to create a scintillating, original fusion choreography, drawing on the technique and knowledge of the folkloric form.

Please bring a notebook, and wear yoga pants, a simple hip sash and a comfortable top.
class fee: $50 (by June 30th, $60 after)

Sunday, July 6th- Zoe Jakes Workshop

Unleashing the inner spaz!!!!
class time: 3:00- 5:30pm
Fancy kicks, tight spins and those elusive concepts to take pops and locks to the next level by mixing the liquid smoothness of a snake with hits and stops that look almost inhuman. This workshop will focus on ways to perform with passionate expression while maintaining control and grace. These concepts will be fully broken down using short combinations as examples so the student is able to get a real understanding of the mechanisms behind them.

Zoe Jakes- Zoe is a proud member of the indigo which recently was on the road touring their
show Le Serpent Rouge. She has been touring with Bellydance Superstars since
the fall of 2005 and can be seen performing on their new Tribal Fusions DVD.
Combining talents with David Satori and Tommy Cappel to create Tribal
Derivations last spring, Zoe discovered she enjoyed creating music, and a new cd will be out may of 2008. When not with the Indigo, she tours with The Yard Dogs Road Show,
a cartoon circus sideshow of wacky dimension, and has been seen tearing it up
with the Extra Action Marching Band.
An innovative dancer, Zoe has been said to have her own unique take on Tribal
bellydance. She takes her influence from Art Nouveau, tango, Breakdance, and
Indian classical dance. Zoe was recently nominated for Zaghareets best
interpretive artist 2007. She loves unicorns and has never once doubted their
existence.

Liz Strong- Elizabeth Strong grew up in a tradition of dance and music. As a young girl she was inspired by the music and dancing of the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. Her amazingly emotional and personal style has captivated audiences in the Bay Area and abroad. Elizabeth believes that the heart is the source of dance and that dance is an expression of our relationship with life and culture. A life-long dancer, Elizabeth formally began studying and performing Middle Eastern dance in 1996 at the age of 18.

Mira Betz- The multi-faceted career of Mira Betz is a testament to her passionate artistry and desire for continual growth. Active in theater, dance and the performing arts for 20 years, Mira Betz has become a sought after dancer, choreographer, costumer, and teacher. Nominated "Instructor of the year" by Zaghareet Magazine, Mira is a valued instuctor at prestigeous festivals and camps across the nation, as well as at the Malonga Arts Collective in Oakland California. Mira is currently facilitating the Barbary Coast Shakedown, a collaboration of Middle Eastern dance professionals pairing performance with intensive dance instruction.

Carnival of Evil - Performers Selected!

I'll be posting more details soon, but I wanted to take a minute to thank everybody who submitted an idea for this year's show. I've been really blessed by having so many people support the show early in the process... by volunteering their time, volunteering their talents for other aspects of the production (like lighting, etc.) and lending their (oft-times warped) talents to the cause. Thank you all!

As posted earlier, this year's event will be on Saturday, October 4th. Ticket information will be posted soon.

Carnival of Evil 2008 - "Dreadful" Deadline Approaches!

The countdown is on... only a few more days to submit ideas, my lovely little creepies!

The last day to submit your ideas is May 15th. Selected performers will be contacted by June 1st. The response has been huge, and I must admit... I REALLY underestimated how many folks would want to participate... so many great ideas from so many talented acts! Thank you all SO MUCH!

As mentioned in the original posting, there are a limited number of performance slots for the show (13 to be exact). I'd love to include all the performance ideas that have been submitted so far, but if I did that, at this point, the show would be over FOUR HOURS long.... and that's more than I can organize for this year's event!

So be patient, my pretties... more details will be up soon...

Call for Performers - Carnival of Evil 2008

Too early for Halloween?... Think again!!

Tangled Web Productions will be sponsoring our first "Carnival of Evil" show this year, and we're looking for performers. This year's theme is toys... but NOT your everyday pleasant ones! We're talking possessed and creepy toys... the kind that make you want to keep one eye open at night! There's a limited number of performance slots for this one-of-a-kind event, which will allow us to pay the performers.

Show details:
Tentative Name: Carnival of Evil 2008 - Draconia's Dreadful Playthings
When: Saturday, October 4, 2008
Time: Evening Performance (most likely starting at 8:00 PM and lasting 2.5 hours)
Additional Time Commitments: one mandatory informational meeting TBA (June or July) and one mandatory technical rehearsal TBA (could be earlier on the day of performance). Performers may also be required to participate in photo ops at the end of the performance.
Location: Covington, KY
Deadline for idea submittal: May 15, 2008

It's not necessary to submit an audition tape or to audition in person. However, you do need to share your idea and provide as much detail as possible for what you want to do in this show. The script will be developed around the acts that are selected.

IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO BELLYDANCE FOR THIS SHOW! If you like spinning poi, hooping, juggling, etc. and your idea is creative (or disturbing) enough, then you just might find yourself in the "toy chest"! Please keep in mind that we are not able to accommodate fire performers for this year's venue.

A word about compensation... it is our goal to make sure that the performers receive some money for their efforts. However, it is too early in the planning process to state exactly how much that will be. Ticket sales will greatly impact how much money is given to the performers!

Feel free to share this email with others inside and outside our dance community... and mark your calendars for the Carnival of Evil on October 4th!

That's right kiddies, the house of Grimm has a vacancy! I need a roomie by march 1st! Right now I have myself and Joe, a mild mannered homey who wishes to keep the basement, so you would get the upstairs room across from me. The rent is 284/mo. The bills are never more than a hundred a person, so for about 350 (everything included) you get all this!
Your own room (duh!)
A massive secluded deck, and I mean massive!
Hardwood floors!
A yard! Really! And a fire pit in the back!
A skylighted kitchen!
Hou se is on a cul de sac, with only one other house across the street, one house 60 yards and 2 treelines away to the left, and nothing behind or to the right of us but wooded area!
2 of the coolest roomies around!
High speed internet and free basic cable!
Right off of the Beechmont exit!

My criteria is wordy, but simple...
Partier but responsible.
Clean but not anal.
Easy going, but outspoken.
Drink and smoke a plus : )
Trustworthy and mostly DRAMA FREE (that means the company you keep as well)
Fun loving and doesn't mind the occasional party (or 2am after party).

Let me clarify that last one by saying this is NOT a "party house", and we respect each others privacy and schedules, but we do party nonetheless!

I'm posting a couple of pics on this tribe, as well as my profile. Sorry for the delay... but after 15 hours of labor and then a c-section, followed by a nasty infection after the surgery, Mama Z has needed a lot of recovery time!

Josie was born (without pussycats! haha) on Dec. 9th and weighed in just under 8 pounds. She was sideways and didn't feel like changing positions, which is why the c-section happened. Turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because the cord was around her neck twice... which gave us a little scare. But we're all back home & doing well now!

Thanks so much for asking about us... we're blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful, caring people!

Hey Ya'll, We are moving Ohio Jalsah to Columbus, and you are still invited!!!

September 29th. Beginning at 3 PM. We'll have workshops from Carmine and Melissa (just in case you don't get enuf of them at Pennsic) Then we'll have a dy-no-mite jalsah (uh, er party) to live music and open dance!

For those who are not yet caught up in the Jalsah frenzy...

"Jalsah is a music event that ALL musicians and dancers are welcome to. Come sit in and play Middle Eastern music for open floor dancing all night. A community event designed to bring together dancers and musicians inspired by Middle Eastern music. Experienced or inexperienced: all are welcome!"

Zahara's Winter 2007 Project...

That's right... we're expecting our first baby in December! Not sure if it's a boy or girl. Right now, we want to be surprised. Of course, that might change...

I've been feeling good overall... having a little trouble with headaches over the last few weeks. Other than that, it's been great!

Midwinter Maqsuum: The White Tour

"Midwinter Maqsuum: The White Tour" will open at Kira's Oasis on January 13th at 8 PM.

Special musical guests, Il Troubadore, will join Snakes Rising to get the tour underway.

Admission is $10 at the door. Tickets will soon be available here for this and the other "White Tour" performances.

We are seeking dancers in the genre of "Raks Gothique" to join Snakes, Il Troubadore, Taletha and Zahara for this event.

If you could clone yourself, what would you have your clone do?
And let's keep it clean here, you creepy crazies... nothing too filthy. You don't need a clone for THAT...
well... maybe a clone COULD be useful for THAT...
ah geez, I'm scaring myself now!! :)

Seriously, though... I'd make my clone work some hideous job where she makes lots of money... shoot, I might make her work two or THREE jobs for even more $$$. Then, I'd have her give me all her hard-earned moolah, so that I could roam all over the world going to goth rock concerts, drinking absinthe, eating sushi, playing in castles and driving fast cars. Or just sitting around doing nothing but eating ice cream all day, which sometimes sounds pretty darn GREAT! haha

Our community celebrates on Halloween evening, which is great for us! My hubby's business partner will be here from Scotland, and he gets a kick out of seeing all the costumes. It's a bigger deal here than where he lives... can't imagine living somewhere where Halloween isn't a BIG DEAL... although living in Scotland would be wonderful...

We're carving our pumpkin this weekend, so it'll be all ready. Then we'll put on our creepy best, light up the jack-o-lanterns, play scary music, sit on the porch & pass out candy. I'm planning to enjoy my own "beverage treats" this year... black widow martinis and warm apple cider with Goldschlagger. YUMMMMM!!

On a side note, I know that Habeeba's is having their Harem Scarem this weekend, which I'll miss because I'm dancing at Andy's on Saturday evening. Too bad... I think Andy would completely FREAK OUT if I showed up wearing something witchy... then again, subtly witchy he might tolerate... bwaahaahaa....

Anyway... what does everyone else have planned between now & Tuesday?...

Tis the season for all things freaky, including theme parks gone bad. If any of you hit Fearfest, be sure to stop and say hi to the poi (flag) spinners. Incendium Arts is rockin out every night of the event! No fire unfortunately (they're all corporate sissy pants!), and we don't even fit (much) but it sure is fun! We have been out in front of the Paramount theatre (just left of the main gate) but that is, of course, subject to change. Hope to see some of you there!

Greetings and salutations.
I awoke today to find myself in a strange place. Looking about in awe, I found myself surrounded by darkness and the macabre, the sort of scenery that would send chills down the spine of the average person. The chills however that I would succumb to weren't that of fear, but a comforting familiarity I had not felt in years. The only life in this void was that of dark sirens, hypnotic seductresses with the powers of a godess, and they beconed to me. Ummm... does this mean I'm a Gothic God? : )
My name is Grimm and it's a pleasure to be here, though I know noone... yet. I live in Cincy and have a fire troupe here in the city, and happen to be taking belly lessons from Anaya Gypsy, and if you hadn't guessed have a thing for goth girls *drooling*. If anyone gets a moment you can introduce yourself here, of just PM me. It's just too time consuming to meet the members of a tribe one by one. Nice to meet you all,

I've been describing my excitment that October is almost here... which means my ritual of enjoying some pumpkin ice cream from Graeter's on October first is right around the corner.

Who knew that two themes could be running so parallel in my life right now...
basking in gothness...
and relentlessly pursuing/partaking in ice cream...

Perhaps I should combine the two? Perhaps open an ice "scream" parlor called "Baskin-Gothins"?
