Camp Less Than Zero Expectations

moderated - created 08/02/06
Our Burning Man camp. We're kickin' it like it's 1999. No large sound. No domes. No communal kitchen. No seminars. No performances. No dues.
Simple Camping for Burners.
We plan on being between 5:00-5:30 and E-F street in open camping. Info will be at playa info. So far we have two Carports and plan to circle tents around that, with a bike parking area in front.
Simple.

So... Expectations...
We do have some. They are more a set of guidelines:

1. Clean Up After Thyself-
this is a no brainer. Pack it in, pack it out. bring your own trashbags. don't shove things in wolfies trashbag.

2. Bring No Drama-
please leave all drama at home. the camp members we have chosen are mostly drama free, and many of us are completely drama free. we are on vacation. take your drama to gigsville, they love that shit.

3. This is a Close Knit Community-
you are a handpicked elite group of burners, chosen for your skill in magic and combat. when inviting people to hang out with us or (gasp) camp with us, think of your community. check in with your community please before inviting somebody to camp in our space. invite them to camp nearby or something.

4. Don't Bring the Law Down on US!
this goes with all the numbers above. there are undercover cops at burning man. if you are doing something illegal, be aware of your environment and the people around you. don't offer or talk about illegal stuff with anyone you don't know WELL. don't leave your paraphernalia out in common areas or anything like that. something like that in plain sight is grounds for searching everyones tents and making a big hassle. never say you have something "back at your camp." deal with that stuff elsewhere or camp somewhere well away from all of us.

5. Respect Your Neighbors
meaning us. don't start shit with people who you are camping with. stay out of peoples' stuff when they are not around. do not, under any circumstances borrow bikes without permission.

6. Love Your Neighbors
meaning me. love me. lots.

7. You Are TOTALLY Responsible for your Guests
anyone you bring to camp is your responsibility. period. if there is a problem with that person, you are the one who needs to talk to them. you can keep them sane and alive and not stupid. okay?

8. Don't Bitch
Seriously. sometimes people come to burning man and complain all the time. don't do that. bitches. if you have problems, talk about them like adults. to some, this list may seem like bitching. quit bitching, bitches! my prescription for bitchiness is to drink more water. if you ever find me asking you how much water you have been drinking and then demanding you start drinking more, you know you have been bitching too much.

9. Adapt
things are gonna change out there. adapt. ask the elders in the group to aid you in your adaptation. we love you and want to make your experience magical.

10. Expect Nothing: Be Self Sufficient!
bring enough for yourself. bring everything you need, including the help you need to build that stuff. if you have a 20' geodesic dome, i hope you already have a crew of 6 ready to work for 5 hours on it. bring enough water. bring enough of the things you need. bring extra. be ready for a week or more in a harsh desert environment.
